Well you will need to have all your papers ready for bon.This includes you court papers which shows expungment and out come of your cases.You will need proof of your rehabilitation or outstanding references from college professors or your former boss.You should send them in with application and hope for the best.Every board is different just do not lie about it, as they will find out anyway.Most bon find out about all expunged/erased/purged/you name it arrest/charges through doj.Your best bet is to do doj check on yourself to see what is no there.But be honest anyway.As for the job that is different animal.Its tough out there but do not give hope.

Sorry for late reply.What I will do If I were you, is to go on gov fbi website and check on how to order your own rap sheet.Believe it or not if you were ever finger printed for anything your prints are in their website for life.Now order the rap sheet before you face the BON.They will find it no matter, if it was sealed/expunged/set aside.They see everything,just be truthful and they may consider what you have done since then to improve your life.Never lie to them no matter how tempting.Who knows they might as well decide to help you.Show that you need the license and prove you are worth it and ready to help people.Be cool and sincere somebody will help.

If I was you I will not resign,it is so damn hard to get a job in this economy let alone with criminal record.Do not ever quit your job you may never get another one soon.It is that hard.I would find a way to go to school while working as you never know how things may work out in your school or clinicals.They may kick you out or keep you who knows at least you will have a job to keep you alive if things went south.I repeat do not quit your current job no matter what.Now it will really depend with a court.A lawyer is there to get your money they are a waste of time in this circumstances of expungement because court is the only one decide how long it will take.Lawyer can only convice the court to expunge but the time is determined by the court.It may take 3 to 6 months since the judge grant motion of expungment for your record to be offline.Even then there are like 600 websites that one can check your record and they are sometime not updated to reflect that your record was expunged.But it is better sealed.Do not give your lawyer anymore money wait for court to finish expungment process,keep your job you can always reapply when record sealed.Do not panic you are lucky you are getting it sealed/expungment.Other states people wait for years.

Call you state BON asap and ask If you are eligible to start nursing school.I am sure you will have to fill bunch of forms and fees but they will accept you I am sure.You need to contact your school as well to see If they will let you in.The real kicker I think is getting clinicals to accept you but then expungment might help by then.I will probably ask my school to see whats up.Other options is to go to school part time so you can delay until expungment happen and then start clinics or do something else in medical then come back to nurisng two years from now.

Do NY expunge records? I hear they do not.If that has changed get it sealed asap.

If you already have a nursing license I will do state background check or go to court in which your case were and see If it was sealed.If you do not have a license I will do FBI rap sheet check to see what's on there since all BON use that.Never lie to BON they will deny you a license.

You might have FBI rap sheet with car wreck and shoplifting if in those incidents you were ever fingerprinted by police officer.Tickets do not count but car wreck and shoplifting might.I will order my FBI rap sheet If I were you.It will take 8 months but atleast you will know what is there before facing BON.Do not use all these internet background check.Orde FBI one because that is the one BON use anyway.Meanwhile get your record expunged do not lie to BON

You are going to be fine.Just relax and wait the NCBON decisions.People are getting licences with felony.If this is your only strike they might give you some restrictions or none at all.You will be an RN.I have misdeminor petty theft and that is the only strike.I spoke with PABON and I think I will be fine but still worried.Let us know.

Call the board you should not have any trouble I guess since it is just DUI.I have my issues as well and I am worried sick too.Let us know how everything went? If you were a minor your record will never show If over 18 you should be ready to tell the NCBON everything.

Was it felony or misdemineour? how long did it took between your crime and starting nursing school? What state are you in? I am in the same situation in PA trying to get into ABSN but we will see. I think you should contact your BON and submit all your court papers and some references,probably volunteer in some non-profit org so that you can show rehabilitation from theft if that is your only crime.I am trying to do that so by the time I apply at BON they will reconsider but I have heard people just applying and getting into school even with more than one offense,again it depend with your crime I guess and how many years have passed, and what have you done since then which is positive to society.You could go to the army reserve or some volunteer abroad since you are young but If nursing is what your heart is I guess there is a steep hill untill you are done.

Hello All, So I am new on this board.I am in my late 20's and recently I did something very stupid:dummy:which I will regret for the rest of my life.Please bear with me. I was returning a dress I bought for my sister and grandma funerals but I could not wear it so I decide to return at this store. When I was looking for another thing to exchange,the alarm went off as I was close to the exist of the store trying to go through a rack sale.The two security guards came and took me to their office while I was holding the mechandize I was going to try o as they thought I was about to take clothes with me.I try to explain to them but with my heavy accent and everything they say they could not understand what I was talking about and call law enforcement who took my information and everything. Now I have a record for "retail theft", since it is in PA and I was placed in AMP 1 program which is basically diversion program for first time offenders and you do not have to "plead guilty" just pay restitution fee to the store,court fee and 12 hours of community service.Now I am done with all that and I am waiting for them to file of expungment which I am eligible for.The expungment will take about 6 months :banghead:Meanwhile I was planning to go to accelerated program BSN since I have two previous Bachelor degree's. Now, I am so frustrated and may fail my classes this semester which I will have to retake.I am three classes from applying for accelarated program and I have heard horror stories about the loop holes to get into school and license and eventually a job:cry:. Has anybody in USA who is minority ever get a nursing or any other type of a job with retail theft in their resume?????Please reply I am so terrified This is the only brush with the law I have been thinking about applying for Master's of Health Informatics or instead but I will have to retake GRE smh. Do you think I should go into NURSING or I have a short of getting into HIM since there is no license required???????????? Please advice people I am loosing it. I know expungment will not help me much into nursing may be applying for apartment even that I donot know, my life is over. Ugh I am scared about my dating life as well smh who is going to date me now better forget about traveling for a while as they may take my immigration benefits away as well when I try to reenter the country.
