  1. What are your reasons?
  2. Hello all, Please be honest with your answer. Do you ever want to escape nursing profession? When it snows outside, nurses are supposed to drive on the dangerous freeway to the hospital to take care of the patients. This is true story, it happened to me. When I was on the freeway on a snowy day, there were cars sliding left and right, I risked my life to go to work. If I don't, my employer would make me feel bad about myself. That day, I took me a very long time to drive to the hospital. I finally arrived to the hospital safely. Guess what happened next? My charge nurse told me that I got low census and they didn't need me for the day. The staffing office told me that they left me a voice message. My phone did not show any voice message. I never received a voice message from the staffing office. Do you ever experience something similar? Please share!
  3. I graduated as a new RN with BSN degree when I was 22. I was very excited about my nursing career and was ready to change the world. I started my first nursing job at a big hospital on medical/surgical unit on night shift. I did not like night shifts because it made my brain/mind very loopy and cloudy. 1.5 years later, I switched to day shift on cardiac/telemetry unit. This was a little better. However, it was very stressful because patients' acuity was high and things can change any second. My work phone constantly went on. It was hard to take lunch break and bathroom break. I was in nursing field for 8 years. One day, I decided that enough is enough. I took charge of my career and changed my life. Now I am an Internet entrepreneur and living the dot com lifestyle. No more boss, no more patients, no more running around like a chicken without head.
  4. Hey, Sorry to hear about your night shift sickness. If you are currently working in a hospital, you might want to consider working for a clinic instead? Clinic is slower pace. Then again, if you are brand new, that option might not be available for you. Employers want experience. Have you considered a career change? That's exactly what I did after 8 years working as an RN. I love my new career and I'm definitely less stressed. If you're interested in the possibility of a career change, send me a private message for more details. Night shift is hard. I remembered old patients get extremely confused at nights. They tried to climb out of bed and put out their IVs. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. whew!
  5. what are the nurse/patient ratios in california?
  6. What are the best states to practice as RN? Everyone is welcome to answer this question and thanks in advance! :welcome:
  7. when i'm done with nursing school in WA state, can i take my state test to get california license? or license from other state? does that mean I can't work as a travel nurse because i can't work in other states? **sigh***
  8. thida replied to pegbord's topic in General Nursing
when you apply to work as a nurse tech, do you guys apply as CNA first then talk to the manager about the nurse tech or directly apply as nurse tech? The manager told me that they don't hire nurse tech in hospital. hmmm....
  9. Everyone is welcome to answer these question: Can WA state nurses work in other states? In another words, if you got your RN license from one state, can you work for other states? For example, you want to live in a different state or you want to be a travel nurse? One more question, what states tend to pay more wage/salary for RN (new graduate, or experienced RN, or just nurses in general)? Thanks everyone in advance! Good day....!!!!
  10. where did you get them? What store/mall? I want to buy that too but don' t know where to find and what exactly is it called?
  11. Pegbord, wait a second, is this an online program? So they don't have real classroom classes (+ clinical) ?
  12. Sister, would you mind giving us some more details on these "implications" so we won't make the same mistakes? Thanks in advance!
  13. wow, so i suppose there's no government program to help nursing students at all? That doesn't sound good..hmmmm
  14. pegbord, do you live on campus or commute everyday? What are the things you like the most/least about WSU-yakima? Hey, you are in the nursing school now, yeayyyy, hang in there!!! :)
  15. Hello all, I am just wondering if you guys know any programs or hospitals in WA state that help to pay off student load/debt after you get you RN license? Any insights would be much appreciated!
  16. LOOK! we have another excellent reply, thanks Daytonite!!!
  17. Congratulations to you Angela! Good job! we are proud of you. Yes, i am serious.
  18. Jaxiakiley, that's a very interesting info. I didn't know about that before! Thanks to you by the way!!! MBA2BRN, do you know this too (that RN-BSN program is less competitive)?
  19. MBA, if you don't mind can you tell me a little bit more about RN-BNS bridge? like how does it work?
  20. EXCELLENT explaination! I completely understood what you meant ^_^
  21. knock...knock?....yep YOU may come in, every is welcome here! :biggringi Okay guys, I have my AA degree with all the prerequite classes done, but i am not sure which program is best for me or which one is a bit easier to get in? Or are they equally hard to get it? :uhoh21: Is it less competitive to get in RN-BSN? Would it be a smart idea to get RN license first and then apply to BSN ? If i go this route, then I will have to retake some clasess that aren't not w/n the past 5 years? Do you guys happen to know what are those classes that have to be w/n past 5 years? oh boy......this is complicated stuff! lol What do you guys think? Any ideas/inputs/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  22. ehheeh sorry for the mistyped name, i mean llg, not lgg lol
  23. llg, I must say you are good at this! Thanks for replying to this thread...^_^ Of course, I want to be a good nurse By the way, the above four major things you explained above can be learned, right? How about everyone else, do you agree or disagree with what Igg's reply?
  24. Who would like to be the first one to reply to this thread! Let's see.....
  25. Hello all, I am new here and I am sure that most of you here are good nurses. It's not surpising to say that nurses have different difinitions or different ideas of what a good nurse is. I am not a nurse yet, but i would like to learn more from guys--for those of you who are already nurses or going to be ones, what qualities do you think you have or hope a real good nurse should have? In your own eyes, what exactly is a good nurse? What does he/she have to do in order to gain your trust/approval that he/she is truely a good nurse? Everyone is welcome to give comments/suggestions this thread!
