  1. @bnicole7 I'll be on C4-2, the MICU. Our nursing program is in the area so I think most of us already have housing, but if I hear of anyone looking I will try to connect y'all :) @boscape good luck on your interview tomorrow!
  2. Congrats @bnicole7! I will be starting at Georgetown in February, too. Several of my classmates have accepted positions as well. What unit will you be on? Can't wait to meet everyone!
  3. As others have said, thank you for this article! I am graduating in about a week and my first job out of school has rotating shifts. A lot of very useful tips!
  4. Yes, it is feasible to work. Several of my friends are working as techs while completing a 15 month ABSN program. Some full time, some part time. They are very good at managing their schedules and sometimes have to make sacrifices to make everything work. If you are unsure of your ability to juggle both school and work, you could start out part time and increase your work hours as you become more comfortable with the demands of the ABSN program.
  5. One of my friends went to the Georgetown Info Session earlier this week and they said that we should hear by today or Monday. Good luck everyone!
  6. Med-Surg Success is a great resource!
  7. You do not need a bachelor's degree to bridge an ADN to a BSN. Bridge programs allow nurses with 2 year degrees to take the additional classes necessary to earn a BSN without having to start from scratch. As for the pre-med requirements, a general BSN curriculum (or it's prerequisites) will include some of the classes that are necessary to apply to med school (2 biology, 2 chemistry, and 2 English classes). You would need to add two physics classes and organic chemistry I and II to the BSN course load. However, the criteria is not standardized across medical schools so you should look into the requirements of the programs that you are interested in.
  8. I agree, but the OP stated that he/she would start with an ADN. It would be quicker to bridge to a BSN than start a completely new degree in order to apply to med school.
  9. One important thing to note - you will need to complete a RN-to-BSN program before you can continue on to a nurse anesthetist program or to medical school.
  10. I was a CPA for 8 years - so glad to be out of the cubicle!
  11. I took A&P II with Micro and found it to be manageable. Plus, there was considerable overlap between the two courses, which was nice to have in the same semester because it cut down (a little bit) on study time!
  12. Exactly what I was trying to say. Tasha, best of luck with your essay!
  13. There are several grammatical errors in the essay - do you have someone that could proofread for you? As for content, I have two main comments: 1. Songwriting paragraph - I think a discussion of the common values that you have found in nursing and songwriting would be much more relevant to an admissions essay than a discussion of why you got into songwriting. 2. Conclusion paragraph - Remove all references to "practicing medicine" - nursing and medicine are two distinct practices and you are applying to nursing school, not medical school.
  14. I think a puppy will only add to your anxiety! As others have mentioned, they require a lot of time and attention to train. I have two 2 and 1/2 year old dogs and they *just* now are growing out of their puppy stage. Some of this is breed-specific, but as phaniea69 mentions, fostering could be a great way to go. That way, you can test the waters to see if you and your family have the time required for a dog. If things go well, you could even put in an application to adopt the dog you foster!
