  1. Great job!! Keep up the good work!
  2. Ok, you feel free to do the same.
  3. I'm a 42 yo husband to an amazing woman and father to 5 wonderful children, 4 boys and 1 girl ages 19, 18, 15, 12 and 10. My Princess is the baby and Daddy's little girl. I'm still taking pre-reqs (only 3 left), but not at the moment. I'm finishing up a 2 year contract overseas and I'll be home 1 August. I can't wait!!! I miss my family and I'm ready to get back in school.
  4. I thought about applying to Lenoir CC, but I really want to go to WCC.
  5. Good to hear from you! I was beginning to think I was the only one here going to WCC. What pre-reqs do have left? I've still got to take A&P 1,2 and micro. I can't wait to get back to my family and to school!!
  6. Well I guess I'm the only one up here that lives in the Goldsboro, NC area. How about anyone that wants to talk about their story?
  7. You are quite welcome!
  8. Let me say I'm proud of you and it is good to see a young person, such as yourself, that has their mind set on what it is they want to go to college for and spend their lives doing. So many teenagers graduate high school and head off to college with no idea what they want to do or they are pursuing the dreams that their parents have set for them. As a parent and father myself, we as parents (not all, but hopefully most) have dreams for our kids. Dreams of the things we would want our children to accomplish, but ultimately it is your life and your decision. That being said, let me offer you the same advice and encouragement that I have given to my own children (I have 5 btw). Follow you heart, pursue your dreams and do what makes you happy. God Bless
  9. Let me just encourage you by saying "You can do it!" (in my Rob Schneider voice) lol!! I know this because I do it. I don't want to sound cliched, but I hope you get the point. For me the most important thing was having a good support system. I'm married to a wonderful woman (for 20 years now) and we have 5 kids. 4 boys and 1 girl ages 19, 18, 15, 12 and 10 ( my princess is the baby). My wife works and so do I and therefore we share the responsibilities around the house, along with our kids. We assigned duties and chores to all the kids, so that helps out a great deal. We also taught our two oldest how to cook and they pitch in there as well. I say all of that to let you know that it can be done. You just need a good support system and to get everybody to pitch in and help.
  10. I'm 42, so trust me when I say that you are not old. Heck for that matter, none of us are "old". I remember my Grandmother telling me once, who was in her mid to late 60's at the time and a very active woman, that you are only as old as you want to be. As far as you wanting to wait to have kids, there's nothing wrong with that. Don't feel like you need to hurry. You still have time.
  11. I'm a 42 yo male, so I feel your pain. In fact I've had kids in some of my classes that were the same age or just a little older than my two oldest sons.
  12. LOL, you are not alone. It might be a little abnormal for me because I'm a guy, but I do enjoy it. I think there's a certain level of excitement that comes from buying those supplies because you know that school will be starting soon. Plus I love the smell of new stuff. Wierd, I know, lol.
  13. Great article!!! Very funny!! Thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
  14. Anybody out there from my area?
  15. The OP asked "Do you think you should have "people person" (communication) skills to go into nursing? Some people think - YES, it's a requirement. Others strongly believe that it if you are not a people person than nursing profession is not for you. What do you think?" IMO, being a people person and having good communication skills are two different things. To me being a "people person" means you either like people, which includes being around them and interacting with them, or you don't. If you don't like people or being around them or interacting with them, I'm going to say that no, nursing is not for you, because you'll be dealing with people every day. Now to the other part, I do believe that possessing good communication skills, both written and oral, are essential in nursing, however those skills can be learned and as you practice them you'll get better at it.
  16. Let me start out by saying that a certain level of nervousness is natural and completely normal when undertaking something new, especially something as challenging as nursing school. As far as overcoming that nervousness or fear, what works for me is to remind myself why I decided to become a nurse. Try writing it down and then tape it to your bedroom or bathroom mirror or anywhere you can look at it and read it everyday. You should also get yourself back into a workout routine. Taking time out for yourself will be good for you. I workout 3-4 times per week and it helps to clear my mind, because I'm not thinking about anything but the next rep, the next set and the next excercise. Now, as for study methods and how to remember stuff; repetiton, go over lecture notes and get into a good study group with your classmates and quiz one another. That's what works for me. I hope this helps. Best of luck!
  17. The things that some people post on facebook is both shocking and appalling and IMO shows their level of intelligence. I see some posts and think to myself that that person is as smart as a bag of hammers. It's kind of like those people that go on those reality shows and make complete idiots of themselves. I agree with you Ruby. You have to wonder what people were thinking when they post those kinds of pictures. What was going through their mind to make them think that it was a good idea to post them on facebook? Things that make you go, Hmmm.
  18. Hi to all readers, I wanted to know if there are any students here from the Goldsboro area that are attending Wayne CC. Would love to know any stories you may have. Your stories and so on. I'll start it off; I'm 42 years young, a devoted husband of now 20 years and a father of 5 wonderful children (4 boys, 1 girl). Yes you read that correctly and no it is not a typo, lol. My wife and I really wanted a girl and it took us 4 boys to get to her. Their ages are 19, 18, 15, 12 and 10. I'm working on my pre-reqs at Wayne CC, however, not currently due to me being overseas at the moment. I'm finishing up a 2 year contract and I'll be returning home the beginning of August and I can't wait. I miss my wife and children, not to mention I'm ready to get back to school to become a nurse. That's enough about me. I look forward to reading your stories. God Bless
  19. I'm a 42 yo husband and father of 5 wonderful children (4 boys and 1 girl, she's the baby). I've been working on my pre-req's off and on for a few years and I'm almost done. It's taken so long because I work overseas as a contractor. I work overseas for a year then go home for a year, take a couple of classes and then do it again. I'm currently finishing up a 2 year contract and I think I'm going to call it quits on this. I'm ready to get back home to be with my family and put my focus on school.
  20. If you don't mind commuting, I go to Wayne CC in Goldsboro Nursing « Welcome to Wayne Community College | Goldsboro, NC, which is about an hour or so from Raleigh (depending on traffic and where you live in Raleigh). Whatever college you decide on you may also want to check to make sure the classes you're taking now will transfer.
  21. I'm going to agree with Heathermaizey here. I would definetly go for the RN. Check with your local community college to see if they offer an ADN program. You can do the RN-BSN bridge later on.
  22. 42 years young here. I'm almost done with my pre-reqs and can't wait to start nursing school. I've often wondered if I was too old to pursue nursing, because in almost all of my classes thus far I've always been the one of the oldest if not the oldest in class, however, I've also been one of the smartest and I've found that a lot of the younger ones in class come to me for help. I wish I had applied myself like this when I was younger.
