You can pretty much forget about being hired unless you already have experience in HEDIS. You probably need to take a HEDIS certification training course, and this still doesn't get you a job. It will help a little. I took the course in August of this year through carenational.com. It was an online course that took a week to complete. Care National is on facebook too. It is a hiring agency that recruits HEDIS nurses. Kimberly Williams teaches the course, and she is wonderful. I got as far as an interview with United Health Care but didn't get the job. It was offering $35/hour. Sometimes if people quit after HEDIS season starts and they are in a pinch for someone to take their place, they will give someone a chance that doesn't have experience. Also, you can start out as a chart chaser the first year, and that's a good way to get your foot in the door with HEDIS. These are the people that go to the offices and get the charts ready for the abstractors. These jobs don't pay as much but will get your foot in the door to maybe work as an abstractor the following year. Care National offers a course for chart chasers too. You are also graded on your accuracy with a score, and you have a chart quota and deadlines to meet. I'm sure just like any job. You learn as you go, but it sounded stressful to me. I ended up finding another work-from-home nursing job with less stress and benefits; although the pay isn't $35/hour, I'll take it.

Hi Renge1 I applied for a Hedis abstractor position on zip recruiter. It's a remote position for my area through Allmed staffing. Believe it or not.. I heard back from them yesterday. I passed the screening. The recruiter is now going to send my resume to the hiring manager for the company. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Make sure you have on your resume that you worked with hedis measures while working as a care manager. I'm curious... Were you a network contractor thru an agency with Humana or an Independent? Why did you quit??

You are correct. I called several places and checked on this. I was told by multiple places that this is probably going to be the last year for Hedis Abstracting. I'm glad I didn't pay $350 to take the training. I was told that there are other areas you can go into such as ACO. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but I'm sure going to find out. No need to waste my time learning something that will be extinct after this year. Thanks for your good reporting SLHengy.

Did you ever find out anything about Hedis abstracting? I am also a Humana Care Manager and am wanting to get into doing Hedis.

I'm not sure because I'm Independent, but I bet all agencies are different in the way they assign members. Maybe some people that work for agencies will respond to you.

It's 6 mths that you have to be free of the agency due to the non compete clause. The only way you can get out of that is if the agency will be willing to write a letter of release for you to Humana. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

I don't work for Seniorbridge. I work for Humanaathome. It is a great and yes I am still working as an Independent contractor for Humana at Home. Lots of flexibility and freedom, but it is still work. As long as you do what you are supposed to do with seeing and caring for your members and charting correctly you will love it.

I am an Independent contractor, so I didn't have to wait and I joined in 2014. You will LOVE this job. I'm sorry you weren't able to sign on as an Independent contractor. There are many advantages to working for yourself. In any case hopefully the agency that you work for will not make you take a certain amount of Humana members. Some agencies require you to take a full load and others don't. Working as an Independent, you can take one member or 35 members depending on what you want. It is alot to learn at first, but once you learn it...it becomes easy. Have you tried emailing [email protected] to ask your question???? What is the city and state you are in , so I can check to see if you are in a saturated area. Areas that are saturated with nurses are only able to be hired under certain conditions. I'll check your area if you give me your city and state.

We as care managers are not "HANDS ON" nurses. This is a free benefit for a Medicare advantage member that has Humana and qualifies for the program. We stay LONG after the home health nurse because the transitions members usually turn into Long Term. We make sure they are using all their Humana benefits to full potential and assist with any resources the member needs.
