  1. Hi there! I work at a fertility clinic (private care) but in Canada so we can bill MSP for appointments. Treatment is considered non-essential, so we have transitioned to telemedicine. Since there is little money coming in we had to lay off staff and reduced hours. I'm still quite young so I am taking it quite hard, in terms of not having full time hours. I do not have young kids or elderly to worry about at home. So I'm very conflicted if I should try looking for a hospital job or lay low and stay safe during this time... Best wishes to you and everyone!
  2. These are great to read, yet terrifying for a current nursing student! Do they prep us for all this?!
  3. Thank you so much for this lengthy post! It allowed me correlate different values to identify the problem. I think for most of us (students) we lack the ability to see the whole picture and fixate on one value (hemoglobin in my case). Looking back at my patient's lab results they were identical to this example! I will be starting to do IV meds in the weeks to come. Those chants will come in handy.
  4. I actually had the opportunity to watch one a few weeks back. It is a rough procedure. Baffles my mind that the patients can hear everything that is going on! Unfortunately, I did not catch a glimpse of the canister. Anyways, I don't think it was due to the blood loss from surgery as the patient's hemoglobin level was 99 g/L POD1 then dropped to 82 g/L POD2.
  5. My apologies, 9.9 g/dL and 8.2 g/dL. I am from Canada so our values are in g/L. GI bleed was my original thought but the patient had not had a BM during my care, so I was unable to assess for bloody stools. Hemodilution has never crossed my mind! That would be the most probable cause. Is there a standard regarding how much blood loss equals a decrease in hemoglobin by 1 unit? Thanks for your reply!
  6. Hello, I am currently on a med/surg ward. I had a post-op patient (TKA) with a hemoglobin level of 99, that dropped to 82 the next day. The physician/nurse was not very concerned as the patient was asymptomatic. What are causes of hemoglobin levels being low if the patient does not have anemia or hemorrhage from surgical incision? Could it be due to chronic bleeding elsewhere? (but could it alter hemoglobin levels that much in one day?) Any insight is much appreciated!
  7. I remember calling BCIT and they said to just do an Antibody test if you have no records? Did you bring the form to the BCIT nurse or a local clinic? It is due soon and I have no idea how to proceed... x_x Thanks so much for the quick reply!
  8. Anyone else having trouble with the Immunization Review form? I have no records of any of my vaccinations in the past.
  9. @LiquoriceTea Can you PM me the link as well! :)
  10. I got accepted as well!!! I can't wait to meet you all. :):)
  11. Will they give you a rejection notice?
  12. For those who have already been accepted, did they actually update the score of your questionnaire answers? Did anyone else exceed the given time? I was busy proof-reading everything and they didn't notice time was already up! Hopefully that minute of discrepancy wouldn't effect my assessment...
  13. I am way too nervous to start as well! Good luck everyone and congrats to those who have been accepted!
  14. Has anyone been offered admission yet? I'm getting quite anxious! Also, any idea if shortlisted applicants are guaranteed a spot??
  15. I can't decide if I should take them online or on campus! Are you planning to take 7001 online as well?
  16. Has anyone registered for LIBS7001 or 7002?
  17. Major delay since I have to reorder them and wait for the transcripts to get here. Wish I found this forum earlier! Good luck to everyone.
  18. Oh my gosh, I am so upset with myself. I mailed my transcript to BCIT not realizing I had to prepare them as PDFs. Now my application is insufficient and spots will probably fill up fast... T_T
