  1. Plenty of time to take work shops and prepare! Are you going to any workshops ? I think when I get to that point im going to do Shari Taylor's in Atlanta ! Heard good things about it
  2. Sounds good, I'm still waiting on the preliminary report then I will start the nursing courses right away I will for sure let you know.
  3. Awesome when it is set up let me know you can send the username to [email protected].
  4. I'd be willing to skype too, waiting for my eval then I start core nursing classes if interested let me know !
  5. Hey we live pretty far but I'd be willing to study via Skype ?
  6. Caliotter3 is absolutely right you need to go to them and say hey, what is it that is wrong with my charting? You can't fix the problem if they don't point out exactly what is wrong.
  7. Great advice I can give is using short worded sentences and getting to the point with using as little unneeded words as possible. Also try and chart only the important things. When I started my job as a nurse I had issues with charting and they told me exactly what I told you and it has helped a lot. Don't over write and keep it simple. :-) hope I helped. Example: client a&o, denies pain and discomfort. Fasting blood suger within normal range. Etc
  8. Thanks :-) I'm excited for you, I will definitely email you !
  9. Exactly! You must think positive, this is self paced too so you can prepare for however long you want and make sure you are 100% on skills, assessments and documentation. It will take dedication and drive but if you really want it anything is possible. Keep in touch and let me know how you progress in the program, we can even bounce questions back and forth! I'm submitting my application in next week.
  10. The Actual book comes with a CD rom that has 200 question quizzes on it similar to the format on the Nclex. They're just practice questions though so if you have iPhone you could download nclex practice questions aps, which also helped me a lot.
  11. I used Pearson's exam cram study book for PN and passed my first attempt with it shutting off at 80 something questions, I read the entire exam cram book and memorized the exam cram sheet with all the lab values and drug therapeutic levels on it etc, it took me about 7 days to go through all the chapters and answer the practice questions at end of each section. The book also comes with a CD rom that prepares you for the nclex, I loved that book and it got me my PN license :-D !!
  12. Hello !! I'd like to let everyone know it will be a year in 2 months that I've been working at the assisted living facility mentioned earlier in this thread, I have learned that you cannot pre-pop meds or even take two people there meds at a time because it's against the law of medication administration and state would Be furious if they saw that. I now ID resident, pop meds then admin then document, one person at a time ! I'm working a unit with a smaller resident ratio it is on the memory care unit I absolutely love it. Thanks for everyone's advise it really helped.
  13. I live in buffalo, so I would be testing in Syracuse. Any obscene law suites heard from that neck of the woods? I see a lot of people saying the CPNE is about perfection but they are allowing you to fail an adult and a peds PCA, they're also allowing you to fail all the labs once to try a second attempt, this sounds very doable. The pass to fail ratio on there site for last year was 51% but I think that only counts for the first attempt. I messaged a couple people to tell me about there experiences but it seems like no one is getting back to me. Anyone know that website where you can read the "journals" of people who were successful :-)
  14. Yep, definitely those help!
  15. Also check out simplenursing.com it has simplified lectures on every topic you learned in nursing school and the teacher is funny and keeps you awake he definitely helped. Good luck! :-)
  16. NCLEX-PN MASTERY, nclex-pn exam prep, nclex Stanford review pn qbank those were the ones I used I purchased from the App Store.
  17. Hahaha! That's a wonderful idea to give them a choice for a bit earlier. My one resident watches mtv and when I go into her room she is sound asleep with rap blasting it is the funniest thing in the entire world.
  18. The CNAs always wheel them to me it is great how much help they give me.
  19. Thanks !! Yes I realized that I can't give meds in the actual dinning room but I make sure to catch them on there way down since they pass the nurses station it gets nerve wrecking though to have like 4 at the desk wanting to get to dinner quickly I always say your food won't grow legs and run away and haha yea about 5 residents ask to get there meds right at 8pm and I can't be there all at once then they put there call lights on. Maybe since I'm new they are expecting more but it's better to have accurate meds then rushing and making an error.
  20. Thanks guys so much :-), yes miss priss that book has each chapter (cardiac, oncology, gastrointestinal, ortho, neuro, psych, maternity and peds) broken down into about three pages of the most pertint info you need to know for the nclex after each chapter they have 10 practice questions on the chapter, I literally read through every chapter which wasn't even like 4 pages long within one week before the exam, the book is very organized and easy to fallow, it also has a cram sheet with all blood cbc levels and other lab test levels. Med therapeutic levels. That book is a complete package ! I was so lost on where to start where to even begin to study but I just fallowed that book and it got me to pass! I know you will do great make sure to just get sleep and eat before going to take the exam!
  21. I am so excited that I received my licensure in the mail today. I want to start off by saying the pearson vue trick worked I tried re registering and it wouldn't allow me to, then a few days later got the pass status when I paid the 7$. I was nervous because I got all select all that apply answers and a lot of medications, it stopped at 85 ?. I took my boards almost 7 months after graduating. I baught the pearson PN exam cram book, did every question on the practice test cd rom, the week of the exam in literally went and read through every chapter besides I think 3. It is not that bad to read through it really!! Specially when you know time is cutting it close to when your scheduled day is. I have an iPhone so I downloaded a couple apps for nclex practice questions I'd do at least 30 a day.
  22. We use the pop charts, never seen the baggies wouldn't sound like a bad idea though! I have only been working one unit and it's easier I know there names now, I guess the state will be coming in soon so the labeling 2 cups at a time thing is out the window, it's just so strenuous walking down that long hall several times.
  23. Yep they already made brain sheets. I have 28 residents to one lpn ratio. Also I now know to save my paperwork for after med pass. When you give meds do you go out one at a time to give them to residents or do you group them in threes and label the med cups?
  24. Confused on how to manage my time better, first day of work I was giving meds two hours late. How should I speed up the med administration process? Being new I don't know every persons name but I know the majority. When I give meds working 3-11 I have to pop the meds then it takes time to track them down either in lobby, room, dining room and it is time consuming. What should I do so I'm not staying an hour after my shift to finally get to do my paper work.
  25. I'm a new lpn and have only worked with patches in the school clinical setting, we were taught to pre open the package to date and initial the patches, before entering the pt room. I can imagine the patches you were talking about were way too tiny to write anything on . I will be cautious when opening patches now, thanks for sharing.
