Sacramento City College ADN 2014/15 - Anyone hear a decision yet?
Yeah, I checked the website, its randomized until the entire cohort has been selected. So, I was amongst the accepted students. Hurray!!! Crazy, this school is great. Hope the best for you...where did you apply?

Thank you so much. I wasn't sure if Sierra has lottery or merit (basically those with best grades and test scores, ((specific formula for any college is different)) or whatever proportion of the cohort may be lottery and other merit)...essentially I was probably one of first selected, that why I was noticed earlier, so that If i decline early they can give to someone else within the next few weeks. You can basically discount that because its based on assumptions... So, no worries there is still lots of time left for them to notice people accept/decline.

Sierra College Roseville (its actually Rocklin for Nursing). Yes they gave me acceptance. It says 6 weeks, but I got email from them yesterday. I could be merit entrance.

Desperate, Anxiety: get into Nursing THIS year
Just an update... I've been preliminarily accepted into the ADN program for Yuba College, and accepted into West Hills for Fall 2014. I've been trying to get some immunizatations records located, and working on getting a blood test for my antibody levels. I have lost the lottery for 4 and one alternative slot for Sacramento City College in Spring 2015. There are four I havn't heard from yet including SMU. Some may take much later, but at this point they are inconsequential. I am still waiting for Samuel Merritt University to get back with me for my application. The faculty have it in consideration and should have a response by May 9th. Cross fingers. Pray for me. SMU is what I am really after.

Im still waiting. Havn't heard anything yet. Still at application received. It says random selection May 14th. I think being qualified is not enough.

I hope so. Good luck to you. I'm kind of worried about the transcripts. I remember SMU only was asking for unofficial versions when doing the electronic application. But, it worries me if we needed the official ATI and paper copies by some deadline. Very worried! I havn't sent out official transcripts, but only ATI!

Csm fall 2014 wait list
I think you have a chance. Just do well on the TEAS. Next year there is merit based system. I doubt I'll be still looking for a school then but, if I do I will certainly get a better chance. Good Luck

I think this is very appreciated that you guys are telling me this. Because, I can have the tendency to go outside scope of responsibly, and I haven't been told this enough before. I really need to be careful with what I say.

I was responding to the statements that I should never venture outside my expertise. This is a very serious point. I want to say I will not anymore.

I stand very corrected.

True I don't know specifics, I only give general reasons for things. Like "Why must I get weighted everyday?"...well the nurse needs to know you weight usually because they must calculate the dosage for your medication or see how its affecting you or even if your eating. Many medications have a very narrow therapeutic range which the dosage is determined based on weight. Something general like that.

True, however I give immaturity discounts to her since she is Chinese and in China- the children are highly pampered because they are sole child. I don't attempt to change personality, that changes with time and experience. So far she has stayed with me, I can only hope to give my family all the help I can.

I have worked so hard learning these past year and half preparing for nursing. Its the best academic performance I have ever done. I received only one B, the rest are As in all my classes. Last 60 units GPA: 3.76 Core Science GPA: 3.69 Cum GPA 3.26 TEAS: 93.3% Foreign Language and I'm learning Mandarin this summer (my wife's Chinese, and I stopped learning in pre-nursing school)

Desperate, Anxiety: get into Nursing THIS year
I am the only person in my family's history to go into medical field. I feel the need to help them out just as much. I didn't like that fact I could have done more to help out my dad. I see chronic problems with my family and I try to help them. I want to learn more and give more. Thats my personality. I'm a giver. LVN and RN will not be my terminal job. I am hoping NP will be. But, I may even go into nursing teaching eventually. I did some English teaching in China that was nice. I love to help people, and I always offer my suggestion and good practices for people. Nursing/Medical career is a lifelong learning process. I am looking forward to keep learning and using every information for my patients. Even now, as I am studying nursing and working as CNA I give patient education on what I know about their therapy. I have neuro rehabilitation experience, I have teaching experience, many experiences that allows me to give advice. Someday I could be a professor, but now, I need to be a nurse not just for my family but for my future.

Many things. My wife had surgery and is still working on her problem. My dad got cancer and passed. I married and my father passed in the same month, just before my graduation. The economy was even worse at the time. Why would I go back for another degree for another 60+ grand for a job that pays 30 grand for 5 years and 50 in 10 years? My life changed. I changed my focus and the medical career was it. If its not Nursing would else could it be? I don't have a niche. All I know is, I want to help everyone, not just pediatrics, not only geriatrics, I want to help neuro-debilitated, but I want to help families. I hope to be a NP and work in a general family practice someday. You know, this topic is why I often do not like to tell people my previous degree. It's distracting of my goal.

Not hyperbolic. She wants to stay at home and have a kid. She is getting tired of waiting for my pre-nursing school to be over. She is turning 30, and you know what that's like for a women? Its pressure for her. Applying to California schools will be preferable because the California school and license are easier to transfer out of state, rather than out of state transfer into Cali. I would pay half out of pocket and half student loans. But, for an LVN I am hoping any cheaper school would work. It is my preference that Samuel Merritt University will accept my application for Accelerated Bachelors in Nursing. That would be the best thing for me right now, but like everything else, it isn't guaranteed. The chances for a job are tough. Do you think my BA and CNA experience, and even certification for blood withdraw would help. I plan on taking IV and BW this summer.

Samuel Merritt ABSN Fall 2014
Hello, I was looking for a thread like this. I'm currently waiting for reply, but they emailed me that my application is sent to nursing department. I don't expect another answer for a few more weeks. Do they ask for security deposit later, or we just sent it to them? My Stats are: Last 60 GPA: 3.71 Core Sciences: 3.69 Chem: 4.0 Cum GPA: 3.26 Teas V: 93.3% BA Degree in Architecture Studies 18-months CNA experience and Volunteer at American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity Foreign Language Think I have a chance?

Negativity around private for profit nursing schools
San Francisco. Any places you know of for a cheap, great education in vocational nursing?

Wow, I wish I heard of this news earlier. Do you have any suggestions on LVN programs in ROPs or even adult education programs. I have been looking at community colleges recently!

Csm fall 2014 wait list
Hi, I'm not sure at all. I applied for the first time this year, my waitlist is #80. Looks like there is no way I'll get in. Seems I may get in next year if the trend for everyone's second try is better. What do you guys plan to do? LVN, or waiting for other programs?

My point was, I would go anywhere for experience.

Desperate, Anxiety: get into Nursing THIS year
That sounds like a mountain. Architecture is still that same mountain: they have similar statics for the entire country. 43% is a challenge, but its a challenge I would accept. Its my life and I do not plan to keep changing it. There is nothing else I want to do other than patient care. I would go into the army as a nurse if I had too. If I'm an RN working as something else, I could do that just to impress my employer. If my first job is out of state, I'm fine with that. I could move anywhere, even Missouri (my home state). I want to get into a school, and go anywhere I can to find a job. If I want to move to Cali again, I could do that with years of experience, or go into Nurse Practitioner with a Masters Degree. Right now, I need a school, then find any work, anywhere. Do anyone think a for-profit LVN-RN program is good option for me?

Missing my partner :*(
I am very sorry for your lost. I fear everyday I will lose my love of my life! My thoughts are with you.

Desperate, Anxiety: get into Nursing THIS year
Thank you again for commenting. I live in the Bay Area, however, I will move if the opportunity arises! My wife will quit her work and follow (as she says). Broadly speaking I heard it is not easy, and usually requires a recommendation from someone on the inside. As far as I can tell, this applies to Hospitals. While I want to work at a hospital, I do not expect to be in a position to pick. I believe other areas will be easier, and I include skilled nursing in that category, so I am still optimistic. There are two observed reasons for this: first, I was interviewed and hired as a CNA from my sole clinical site the day of passing my CNA certification. Second, my skilled nursing facility still has LVNs and a few RNs working as floor nurses or treatment nurses. I fully expect to be hired as an RN if I have an RN license somewhere. My own director of staff development says they would hire me if I get the RN (perhaps LVN?) I believe I will be just as qualified and on top of the field when I graduate, and could open the eyes of my clinical-site administrators. Otherwise, I will even move to another state to get work.
