Does your facility allow the floor/unit nurses write up other nurses?
I know how you feel I also just started in ED. I had a floor send down the charge nurse to reprimand me the other day because I was "short" with them. I did not deny it and told her I was "Short" with them. Every time I have sent a patient to this floor they give you a run around. First its the room is not empty. Then call back almost an hour later the room is not clean yet. Call back almost another hour later and Oops they cleaned the wrong room that one is not ready. This patient had been in ED all day on a stretcher and had a blood clot in his leg. He needed to get upstairs and get settled. Never mind that I had three other patients all needing to go upstairs all needing regular pain medication. Of course I was "short" with them they were giving me the run around!

HELP!!! failed my hesi and got kicked out of school need your help
I have failed by three points with 9 weeks to go, have held 80s or above all through school working part-time almost full-time as an LPN. This last semester my sig others mother and father both fell very ill with cancer and being cared for at home with mom passing away during the semester. I got low scores on two quizes at this time and failed our midterm. Pulled quiz avg up to 80+, 82 on my paper and above 80 on final. Those three grades were the only low grades the whole 3 years. I petitioned to take the test again but they refused. Meanwhile passed my clinical with excellent performace evals and even the nurses in ICU asking if I was interested in working there as they were impressed with how well I did. I truly believe this was a bad timing issue and feel very robbed. I can now wait until January to repeat that whole semester then move on to the last 9 weeks or I have been considering EC because I can't stand the thought of waiting to be done when I feel I have already finished. The last 9 weeks is all clinical that is all I would have had to get through. So torn!

Care plan assistance
I'm sure something like this has been asked before, I am having problems with care plans, and while I admit some responsibility for the problems myself I also feel my instructor has some issues. The main thing I wanted to ask is I used Risk for infection r/t surgical procedure, as evidenced by surgical wound now without dressing. In the postings I have checked it seems that risk for infection r/t surgical procedure is something I could use, but she marked this wrong, saying it had to be Risk for infection r/t break in skin, r/t surgical procedure, as evidenced by incision on L knee measuring 5 inches with slight redness and swelling, no drainage

Nurses married to law enforment officers?
Where we live the main places to work are one of the prisons (we have two) or one of the hospitals (three in the area). Plus I think it is the shift work thing. My fiance (a CO) jokes that every prison guard needs a nurse.

"Diploma Nurse preferable"
I went throught the LPN program last year and we heard alot about the fact that we were on clinicals from 730 to 3 and then RN students from most of the schools were usually only there from 730 to 11. Most of the floors and departments felt there weren't there enough time to even do anything. So when I started for the RN right after I chose the local hospital's Diploma School because they have smaller classes so more one-on-one with the instructors, not sitting waiting for them and more clinical time, not to mention they gave me the most credit toward the LPN that I already have where as at the local CC I would have had to repeat classes that I pretty much already went through. I do believe this may be the only diploma school left in NY State.

taken boards in aother state
Well I understand that and that was what I had planned to do, but then I have been hearing that we might not be scheduled for the test up here for three months after we send our money and registration in, which would put me at Sept or Oct and then I have been reading things in other posts that it takes awhile to get the license from Florida after that. We were planning on moving this summer so I would either have to stay up here and wait or go there and take the test, which was why I was asking if I could work as a GPN down there until I take the test.

taken boards in aother state
I am currently finishing and LPN program in NY state. I was under the impression that we had to take the NCLEX in the state we do the program in. Is it possible to finish a program in one state and take the exam in another? That would make sense to me since it is a national test. We are looking to move to Florida. Also, does anyone know if I can work as a GPN in another state until I take the exam? Any info will be helpful.

Graduate nurse never inserted foley :/
We are about halfway through our LPN program (graduate in June) and done with our second clinical and I have not yet seen an actually Foley or NG tube. A few people in our clinical have. We have to be checked off in the lab on the dummies that's what is required to graduate. They say they hope to get everyone to do at least one actual one before we finish. I am concerned about making sure I get to do it so I am going to remind my next clinical instructor that I still need to do it. With all those students they have asked us to remind them if you still need to do something and they will keep a look out for it.

**Organ Donation**
I'm sorry I don't agree with the money thing either. While my father was lucky to have good insurance which really helped out there were people in all different situations waiting for organs on the floor with him, some with great insurance, some with HMOs, some with medical assistance and some with no insurance.

**Organ Donation**
I am an organ donor. I believe very strongly in it. We have had my father for 10 extra years this year because he received a heart transplant. It is on my drivers license and I am registered through CORE. They talk about some of those misconceptions at the website. http://www.core.org/04donmis.html

Just checking to see how LPN/LVN classes are going.
I started this on Wednesday September 7...our first test in A&P is this Tuesday. Its a lot of information but I feel good about it. Well see how I feel after the first test. My instructors seem very nice and willing to help, unless you are going to screw around. Then I get the impression they are not going to be very nice and will not help you out. Which seems fair enough to me. Best of luck everyone. Only 184 to go!

LPN/LVN rate of pay in your area.
This is my first post. I will be starting LPN school in a couple of weeks. I can't believe the pay rate is that low. I am a medical transcriptionist now and my pay rate is $10.64 here on the border of rural NE PA/NY. Its crazy to me that they can pay you so little for a job that requires more education and more skills. Transcription is important but your caring for patients for God sake...that's really improtant. I'm going to school to be a nurse because I want to be a nurse...but I sure hope I won't be making less than I am now that's awful.
