We fail our old people and it's heartbreaking
I had a patient with long term insurance in LTC. How is that for justice.

hold on sister, have you ever heard of life. maybe she had a plan but inflation happened and it wasn't enough . maybe she had an older child that needed financial help and she did which left her without. don't preach stupid stuff when it is obvious you haven't seen real life. I have known women to marry a 2nd or 3rd partner to have his income to be able to live. get over yourself, if you think that Social Security and your pension is going to be enough to live on you had better think again. you may live past the amount you have saved. then what, so if you have a specific time you are going to die don't preach what you don't know

I hate nursing!!
I know several nurses that have not had hands on nursing except nurse training. they are MDS coordinators, home health case managers or take more education and go into administration. you really did not say the reason you hate nursing. is it the patients or the staff. is it because you don't like primary nursing or actual procedures. maybe a change to OR, PACU so you are not with the same patients for 8 to 12 hours. How about dialysis where you are with the patient only 4 hours no bathroom breaks, tons of medication, or or naked bodies. just dialysis and nothing else. check around some places are willing to train.

Male Nurse Disgusted by Female Nurses
This is in all businesses if it is mostly women. I am a woman and I absolutely hate working with women. I work ICU or a place where major work is done by me and I don't spend time at the desk. when I hear someone ripping someone apart, I leave. one time I stated the reason I did not eat lunch at the same time every one else did was because of the gossip. they ganged together and lied about an incident needless to say I was fired. women would rather whine and ***** about a situation rather than banding together. then put nonAmericans in the situation and you hear the ******** ing another language. these nurses are afraid to speak up because their money goes to other countries for family members. so they need their job. they keep their heads down and swallow all kinds of unequal treatment. This will not change. Sir, get more education and go into administration. I love nursing but hate the situation.

Sleeping during your breaktime
it is comments like your unit clerk made that causes riffs between shifts. next time don't say anything she was venting and not very tactful. you let the cat out of the bag and put a target on your back and put yourself in a bad position with your own shift. sleeping on your break is none of the day shifts business. go directly to your manager and tell her the facts. do not defend your position but just the facts, ask her or his opinion then act accordingly.

Feelings after first loss
I hope you have malpractice insurance. that doesn't mean you will need it. your hospital will investigate and let you know if you were responsible. if the family is mad or feels there was a hospital glitch they will sue the hospital. more money. but to make you feel better if the Dr is correct and it was a PE there was nothing you could have done but calling a code which you did. was an autopsy done? That could satisfy everyone. do not let this color your practice going forward. continue to do your job and chart sufficiently. you will get over this but you will remember the incident. Calm down and check in with your mental health practitioner. Continue to be diligent.

Confused High School Student
are you able to take college classes while in high school? if so take your general ed classes this pushes you ahead faster. take a medical terminology class. write down the dream you have then daily journal the step you took to get to this dream. Believe it or not time will go quickly. you may look into volunteering on the oncology floor at the hospital or for a LTC or hospice. this will get you next to the people you want to help. hopefully, this will help you get started.

My Family Thinks I'm Crazy
maybe a job that will give you 6 weeks of preceptership will help build your confidence. also a night position in a LTAC is slower pace than acute but still gives the experience you need. Going to school at this time will not give you what you are looking for which is acceptance. Keep your chin up and think of the fun you will have with your child when you start earning money. The lesson you will be teaching your son by pushing forward through adversity. Good Luck.

How to Get Hired When I Graduate
having every certificate up to date. be humble not a know it all. research the patients diagnosis on that floor. in other words, if the floor is a medical floor ,know about respiratory infections, AIDS, diabetes, cardiac diseases. if it is surgical floor learn about assessments specific to surgeries, i.e. DVT, fat emboli, neurological impairments from anesthesia, clean vs sterile dressing changed, IV sticks and the way you give report to the M.D.. when scenarios come up in the interview if you don't know what to do refer back to the charge nurse. just say I don't know but I would give O2 set the patient up and call for help for respiratory distress. taking a class in telemetry reading know the medications such as the differences in insulin, blood pressure medication, etc. this sounds daunting but after working for 3 months on the floor you will know more that you do now. obvious, but you will be more confident. the last thing you should know is "how long will you have a preceptor"? your preceptor should give you the information you need to know to give you the confidence you need to be the best darn nurse you can be.

obviouly a new nurse. there is no legit source except the experiences that seasoned nurses have. so keep thinking your purest thoughts and then when it finally happens to you, you can then sue for the vegetative state patient. not everything Is black and white. every time a person goes to the hospital or LTAC or SNF a POLST is signed. The answer may vary from place to place. The patient may then decide to change their requirements. Pt may now decide to be temporarily tube fed, so the POLST has now changed. So unless the POA knows that the decision has changed or is able to say we will uphold the recent POLST we follow the family decisions.

legal? whose going to sue? the patient who is now vegatative,or the family that refused to honor his wishes?
-
Living Will Tattoo
thank you, as I have said many times the patient is incapable or incapacitated to make decisions the family can rule no matter what the Polst states. the POA had better be someone that is trusted to carry out the wishes. I have my friend not my son because I know what he would do and it is all selfish on his part. I am a DNR with transplant wishes.

Many nurses do not chart?
yes that is true but then I saw there was a miracle on our floor because a quadriplegic walked in his room for 1 CNA and the nurse confirmed it with her charting. but by the next shift alas, he was a quadriplegic again. this is very had to explain to the State during survey. also looks bad for the nurse and cna

Living Will Tattoo
well, you are wrong unless someone in the family is there that has POA we have to follow the family wishes
-
Living Will Tattoo
well, you are wrong, if the family says no do all you can to save my family member, we have to do it.

where did you get your information. you can go get a medical bracelet off of the internet or at Walgreens or any other drugstore
-

I have thought about a DNR tatoo but a lawyer stated unless you are with someone who knows your wishes the tatoo would not make a difference.

Many nurses do not chart?
I've seen some pretty good chart as a chart review nurse. so good in fact, that it makes me wonder if all the things that were charted were actually done. nobody has that much time in an 8 or 12 hour shift. especially, if there is a glitch in the day.
