  1. So I am attempting to fill out my first application for the VA...I am confused by the question #17A on the Standard form for nurses 10-2850A. The question states "DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE OR HAVE YOU EVER HAD CLINICAL PRIVILEGES AT ANY HEALTH CARE INSTITUTION, AGENCY OR ORGANIZATION?" What do they mean by that? When I think of 'privileges' I think of Doctor's or maybe PA or NP privileges to practice at a facility. I am a nurse in a hospital. Does that mean I have 'privileges' to practice there? If the government speak for "are you employed?" or "have you ever been fired?" Thanks in advance.
  2. If you are considering becoming a microbiologist, consider your personal life and where you want to live. Most micro jobs will limit you to living in mid size to large metro areas unless you work in higher education which will require a PhD. This is one reason I am in nursing school. :)
  3. I discovered cornell notes in a&p and found it to be a great way to supplement either text reading or instructor power points. I would also pull a concept out and 'mind map' it and found it to be very effective when I was having trouble with concepts. Mind map videos available on YouTube. You may think it's silly but it works for me and it's a great tool to use when you only have 5 minutes and want to squeeze in a mini session.
  4. Check the mail y'all. Package came today. I'm in. Good luck to everyone!!!
  5. Nope. I just called them as was told that they are behind schedule and hope to have letters in the mail by the end of the week. grrrrrr....
  6. Right? I think the mailman thinks I'm hitting on him!
  7. Since no one has replied here, I will say that with all my time on these boards, I've not see anyone get in with a score in that range. I know this Is not the news you wanted to hear. I will say that when I took the Kaplan studying the specific areas for the science really helped me. If i remember correctly, it was all physiology. Cardio, urinary, immune, fluid balance. Mostly bio 202 related. Hope that helps.
  8. Posting so I can be notified when someone answers:)
  9. You can also find very cheap textbooks at goodwill or other thrift stores. Great for things like chem & bio, maybe even a&p. And for basic science stuff many universities have great interactive sites for brushing up on concepts. Just stick to .edu sites for pretty reliable info:)
  10. Depending on what those prerequisites were, I'd brush up on... Math conversions, basic algebra, order of operations-for science and chemistry classes you'll face. Basic chem since much of physiology involves reactions of some type-diffusion, osmosis, acid/base, & gas laws Basic biology- incl. cellular respiration (chem will help here), macromolecules, Medical terminology-it just helps everywhere to know the roots of the words we encounter. The above will help prepare you for bio, micro, med math, a&p, and chem that's usually requires for admission. Google alternate study skills including cornell notes and mind mapping. Buy tons (like 1000s) of index cards when they are cheap in the fall. Good luck!
  11. I'd love to have an idea of what the first semester looks like in the program. I know it's rigorous but how many hours spent in lab, clinicals, class, etc?
  12. I have applied to Yuma campus only with 85 on my science (89 overall). I have read on previous forums that Kaplan in mid to high 80s and GPA above 3.6 is competitive.
