New grad RN needs advice: Med surg offer waiting on perianesthesia outpatient position
4 10s, no holidays, no weekends AND a positive work environment (per a friend of a friend), I know which one I'd be hoping for. Good luck and congratulations!

Utilization Review
I have been trying to get into utilization review for over a year now. I'm only targeting certain employers so I know I'm limiting my odds but is there anything that anyone can offer as far as advice to either alter my resume somehow or gain a specific type of training or experience to help me to break into this area of nursing?. I have four years of acute, hospital experience and just over a year as a home health case manager, BSN-RN licensed. Any advice or input would be very much appreciated. Thank you

What's your schedule like?
I am a field case manager, I usually see six patients a day. I do my own scheduling so if I need to, I can schedule around doctor appointments or picking a kid up from school. Doing so in the middle of the day though will obviously mean that I'll be working later into the evening.

If you want to, what stops you?
Hi, I'm not a CNM yet, still in nursing school but working toward it! I had this conversation with my own CNM though and she stated that she doesn't because of fear of litigation and malpractise issues. Our area is very conservative.

4 years to get ADN? Is this just stupid?
one thing you might want to look into is the requirements where you would go if you decide to become a CNM. The school that I will attend for my CNM studies requires a BSN. As it's the only program anywhere around me, I'm going straight for my BSN. I'm thirty one, with three kids. It's going to take me 5 years to get my BSN even though I already have a year and a half of credits from YEARS ago. I think I'll be at least forty before I'll be a practicing CNM! Better late than never.... :chuckle
