Visa screen application
I sent one request form to school in Texas on March 24th. I received confirmation of CGFNS around May 24th, so even in the same country, it can take 2 months for such documents. Texas Board of nursing processed my check ($25 processing fee) in March as well for license verification, but I got confirmation also in May. I understand your frustration! My PD was June 2014, FYI.

Visa screen application
Hello All, it seems like I may get some helpful answers from you guys regarding Visa Screen process! I went to total of 4 colleges/universities in Texas and took courses that are listed in those "Request for Academic records" forms. Although CGFNS specified online that they are awaiting for the academic records/transcript from my professional school only, which I received my nursing degree, I sent all my requests to other 3 colleges/universities as they also have a small part of filling for some courses. I just want to check with you guys if I am on the right track, because as you all may know, some of CGFNS staffs really don't know how to answer to these issues. Today, I just found out they somehow changed my initial application info, switching school names. It is probably rare for them to see somebody who went to so many different schools, but one little confusion can compromise my immigration status! So it is correct that I sent request forms to all schools I attended that helped leading to my nursing degree, right? Thank you all!

Any CE course recommendations?
Thank you very much. I will try to be diligent as possible to complete these before next year comes. I was expecting to find something more in-person and interactive, but I guess some research is a must!

Any CE course recommendations?
Hello, everyone. I started home health as a new nurse and it has been 11 months now! Very stressful at first, but with time management and extra time spent in training/feedback/self-education I would say I really respect home health nursing and would want to continue in addition to hospital experiences. Anyway, I wanted to ask you guys what kind of CE courses are available for home health nurses. This is my first renewal period and my next renewal is next year in July. I know that we need to complete 20 hours until every renewal, however, we can't just take courses we want due to some limitations on experiences or different specialty. I did get a brochure through mail about completing all 20 hours in a package, however, it wasn't that interesting for me to pay all at once. It would be better if courses I am taking are actually informative and helpful. Does anybody have same concern or any plan to take some interesting CE courses for home health nursing? I live in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX. I would appreciate any comment including local opportunities. Thank you all and have a great day!

How did you do in the interviews as a foreign RN?
Hello, I am an ADN RN with a f-1 visa and currently on OPT since Jan 2014. I have questions for all those foreign RNs who got their first entry level nursing job! How did you bring up your OPT situation during the interviews? I feel like bringing up about my OPT ending next year would be a direct turn down factor, but then again I want to be as honest as possible. I still want to appeal myself that I am worth the money that is spent for 8-12 weeks of new-grad orientation. I had an interview today with a chief clinical officer for med-surge unit. Everything was excellent. That was my very first OFFICIAL job interview in my life and I was prepared. She was mentioning about the salary and shift of preference. She seemed to be pleased with my resume (NO MEDICAL EXPERIENCE, but good formatted resume) I did tell them my OPT ends next year, and I wouldn't be able to work after that, until I start Co-Op program with another schooling. In fact, I am pretty sure I will start RN-BSN track right after my OPT expiration, but the school specifies that F1 can start the Co-Op from 2nd semester, which means there would be about 4 month gap of unemployment (No pay period) between OPT expiration date and start date of 2nd semester. HR of the facility I visited today said they will call me after all the interviews are over or I could call them tomorrow. I am concerned if what I mentioned to them is going to give me no job. Even HR personnel told me the CCO was very impressed with me. But who cares if they know that I will eventually have to quit next year? Are there any tips for me how to bring up the OPT issue for any interview in the future? My American friends told me I did good job being an honest person, but at the same time I will NEVER ever get a job as long as I say the same thing in the same manner. PLEASE share any interview story as a F-1 RN!!!!! Thank you so much!

New RN resume help! No medical work experience
Hello, I just graduated from ADN program in Dec 2013, passed my NCLEX about a week ago, and I am trying to brush up on my resume. I also don't have any medical experience since I wasn't allowed to work off campus for being an international student. I did some volunteering work, however, I really want to put my academic part (dean's list, honor's) and I don't want to take up too many lines that would possibly make the resume longer than 1 page. Does anyone can show some sample resume for new grad with following conditions: 1. no medical experience 2. Pending result on Texas Board website for licensure (I did pass) 3. Dean's list spring 2012, Spring 2013, and Fall 2013. Honor's list Fall 2012 (How do i format this) 4. have separate section "Skills" and listed being a bilingual and speaking conversational Spanish. Any tip will be appreciated. Thank you very much!

Is moving out the country a solution to job finding difficulties?
Hello resilient nurse! I know I am responding to your old post, but I felt like you might have great words to share regarding working for international organizations, especially UN. So please help me out with some tips if you are still involved in these organizations. One of my dreams include working for UN and I am aware that I still have a long way to go considering that I just graduated from ADN program. Obviously, UN internship requires much higher degree for one's expertise, so I have looked for a UN volunteer position. Do you have any information to share regarding it? Do you have any recommendation for taking the first step in international nursing? FYI, I am in US with a student visa. I have a work permit till Next Jan of 2015. If anything goes right and smooth, I will be an ADN RN with a 1 year experience in either med surge or home health (actively seeking a position in acute care as well) by the time I would apply for those international organizations. I was very impressed with your experiences in different countries and wanted to see how you started all these wonderful journey and how you handled in many aspects including finances, education, and eligibility. I would appreciate any tips! Thank you very much!
