  1. Our managers really want more people to take the test, but the only incentive offered is to reimburse the exam fee, and they will only do that if you pass. At most we have 10 people out of 140 who are certified. I think part of the problem is the way the managers try to encourage people to take the test. They seem much more interested in being able to advertise numbers vs. wanting each of us to challenge and educate ourselves.
  2. Thank you for this post! And for all the replies. I think it's important to normalize the idea that not every woman, either by choice or by circumstance, or both, has kids. I know some people ask whether or not I have kids just to start a conversation, but when they ask 'why not' I feel they have gone from friendly conversation to judgement. I usually say something like 'it just didn't happen' or 'I just don't' and turn the conversation back to them, as others here have suggested. When I have conversations with friends about this topic I tell them I'd like for everyone who answers 'yes' to the 'do you have kids' question, to be immediately asked WHY?, just to see how it feels. Why DO you have kids? And you know what? Not many people have an immediate response. You would think there would be a LOT of thought behind a decision like that, but that question catches people off guard!
  3. KS $18.00/hr New grad L&D I moved here for the job (I couldn't find anything in my home state of CA), and was surprised at the high cost of living! You would think, with this starting salary, that rent/food/gas/utilities, etc, would be well below average, but they aren't. There are so many hurdles for new grads!
  4. I'm curious if anyone has been accepted to this program for the Spring 2014 start. Thanks for any feedback!
  5. Thanks, hwngrl. My status hasn't changed at all on the application page. Here's hoping I'll hear something in the next couple of days! Good luck to you, too. :)
  6. Sarah, I think it's great that you had the opportunity to spend that much time in PICU! Assuming you've finished your rotation there, do you have any tips for other students who will spend time in PICU?
  7. Thank you for that tip, HangInThere. I like the idea of asking people how they usually relieve stress and then trying to find a way for them to do so.
  8. I did have a question during NCLEX that I just had to kind of laugh at and move on. There was a med I had never heard of, and the answers had something to do with prioritization of care. I was not able to eliminate any and I just had to take a guess. Thankfully this was the only question where I felt I didn't have any techniques to make an educated guess. I'm glad I didn't spend too much time on it!
  9. A classmate of mine had her results on hold for almost a week because her name was spelled incorrectly somewhere along the line. She passed but it was definitely a nerve-wracking week for her! Hang in there. :)
  10. I know this thread is about residencies in Denver, but someone mentioned UCH at Memorial in Colorado Springs. Has anyone heard from them regarding their residency program that starts in February? I submitted reference info at the beginning of December but haven't heard anything since. Thanks!
  11. I'm glad to read this post just to know there is hope for new grads! I hope to be interviewing soon so any advice from those of you who have been through it recently would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  12. These are fantastic! I hope to work in peds some day and hope to have my own stories to share. Thank you for these posts! :)
  13. I would go with that 75% of you that knows you can do it. I bet by the end of a week of orientation you'll feel even more confident!
  14. Thanks - this is a great topic and the coupon code still works!
  15. I hope you all are having wonderful holidays! I have gone from being nervous about hearing from them to being super nervous about interviewing. Does anyone know if there is anything else scheduled on the day that we interview? Is there a test that we take? During the phone call she mentioned a skills survey but it sounds like that is for our references to fill out.
