  1. HCC only looks at the overall GPA for the pre requisite classes for nursing. Even if you have taken other courses they do not take them into account, that's what my advisor said. To the OP, I went to South University to speak about their program and I had such a bad experience. Extremely rude and the lady I spoke with was speaking down to me cause I didn't have all of "their" requirements. I will be attending Galen College of Nursing in St Pete in July. Their school is beautiful!! State of the art and all the staff are sweethearts. It is a private college so a little pricey but it's for ADN, they do give credit for classes you've already taken also. But for now I'm still at HCC finishing up Spring semester! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  2. I live in Tampa Fl and there is actually a mobile lice company that will come to your home to treat the entire family and the home. Not quite sure how their business fairs annually but they are out there. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  3. Congrats!! Hope your future endeavors and career as a nurse are fulfilling! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  4. I just passed A&P this last semester it's a lot of time, hard work and memorization. We had to learn all 206 bones, the faces, body planes, directional terms, body quadrants, histology of the skin all in one test!! Mastering A&P is a program you can purchase it saved my life last semester. Look into it. It has practice exams and lab practicals. Otherwise as the others suggested make tons of flash cards. There's also a little binder called Atlas of the Human Body and that also helped bunches! I'm taking on A&P II right now and it's so much better than A&P I in my opinion, a lot less of the little things to remember? Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  5. I attend HCC for pre reqs for nursing and I can tell you this is the first time I've been on here since the semester started...and I normally frequent the site daily. I'm scheduled for 13 credits this semester and I'm so busy with studying. Got 5 chapters to go over before school on Tuesday!! Probably the same if not more for them I'd imagine. 6. On my last semester of pre reqs myself! Taking: Sociology Developmental Psychology Math A&P II Then off to nursing school in July! Good luck to you!! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  7. Congrats!! I'm on my last semester of pre reqs..definitely excited to think I'll be starting Nursing school in July! It definitely is a roller coaster, many classes and and plenty of information to retain! But it's so worth it. If you are determined and study hard you can do this! What classes are you taking? This last semester I'm finishing up with A&P II, sociology, developmental psychology and math. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  8. I will be transferring out to Galen College of Nursing in St Pete. HCC does have a good nursing program but GPA expectations are significantly high at around 3.8. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  9. Not sure if your books are from the publishing company Pearson but they have something called mastering A&P and it is so helpful. It has practice lab practicals, cadaver photos and covers everything for A&P I and II. I aced every test using that program but I think the bundle with the book and online code is around $200-$300. If it intrigues you and you study smart and hard, you can do it. It's a lot of memorization in A&P I. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  10. AP I is definitely time consuming. Make sure you do your research and have a great professor to help you through the course. It's a lot of material in a short amount of time. Lots of memorization with the joints, bones, muscles etc. I had a professor that should not even be teaching in my opinion, he failed almost my entire class. Thank god I have great study habits and passed lecture with a b and lab with an a! Taking APII this semester with sociology and psychology. Then I transfer to my nursing school in July which I've already been accepted to! It's all coming together! Study hard and smart and you guys can do it! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  11. I want to be a nurse because it's the only thing I can ever see myself doing. A lot of people say it's a cliche when nursing students say I love helping people but this is absolutely true for me. Not only does the human body and it's function fascinate me but the feeling I get from helping others is like a drug to me. I get so much satisfaction from helping patients. I've been a vet tech for 5 years and I love the feeling of helping patients and educating clients. I've been taking my pre reqs for about 1.5 years now and I come home from class and tell my husband and kids all about everything I've learned and there is never a day I don't come home excited about what I've been taught. I want to touch peoples lives and leave an everlasting impact on the world. It only takes one act of kindness or to save one patients life to impact their outlook on life. This is what I was made to do. I eat sleep and breathe nursing. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  12. Good luck to you! I'm finishing up with my pre reqs this next semester in January and just got accepted into nursing school so I'll be starting that one in July! If it's something your passionate about you'll do great! Study smart and study hard! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  13. Nursing school is designed to be difficult. My doctor put it to me like this: is it designed to weed out those who want to get by with the minimum. It can differ from school to school. Some look at your overall GPA in your pre reqs and others look at each individual letter grade for each course. Either way your going to have to put in a lot of time and effort to be successful which is why they are designed the way they are. Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  14. I wouldn't say necessarily that Florida is a problem state when it comes to hiring RN's. Economy has pros and cons in all states. Not just Florida. I can say from my personal experience that community colleges tend to have a mile long waiting list and place their high standards solely on a students GPA of all the pre reqs taken. Normally they have 800 applicants for a 30-50 student beginning class, which they only start about twice a year. That is definitely the case for HCC, which is why I took all my pre reqs there and then transferred out to a private nursing school to save myself a significant amount of money. Ultimately it's your decision, but like others stated it's not bad to take out student loans, but just do so wisely. Don't take more than you need as it can come around to bite you in the butt. Either way all those required classes are going to be your go to for basic nursing knowledge of the human body, etc. They are absolutely important. So whatever your decision is I say go for it and study hard! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  15. Don't let obstacles get in your way! They are there to show you your self worth so you can look in the mirror and say "I did this" when you conquer them! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
