Chest Tube Insertion
Thanks for your input! This was definitely a very stable patient who presented to our ED with chest congestion which ended up being a pneumo. There was definitely time to get some meds on board.

Chest Tube Insertion
I'm currently in a new job and saw a chest tube inserted in the ED. All that was used for this patient was Ativan &a Lidocaine (pre-procedure). About halfway through this patient was in excruciating pain so a nurse pushed for an order and was able to get 2 mg of morphine. so my question is... what is the norm medication-wise for chest tube insertions at your facility? Another place I was at used fentanyl and propofol which seemed much more appropriate. Especially after hearing this patient scream in excruciating pain tonight .

BE HONEST! What part of your job do you hate?
Poop in general I can handle. But poop seeping out of a colostomy bag? That's another story. It's got it's own brand of stench and I can barely get through cleaning it up without hurling! On another side of things... I am a new nurse and my current pet peeve is that the aides literally will not speak to me! I have said hello and introduced myself & literally am getting BLANK STARES (except for like 2 that have actually responded). I mean seriously?!

need tips for a new lpn student
I don't necessarily have any advice for you, but I just wanted to say that I also start on March 31! Good luck to you :).

LPN Nursing School
I live about 30 minutes away from my school. I would have considered a school an hour away though. I start in 3 weeks! But I have commuted 45 minutes to another school before. I use the longer commute to wake up a bit more, drink my coffee, and relax listening to some music.

Anyone starting school in april 2014
Sorry you had to change, but that's exciting that you know that you are in for April! Not yet... I turned my application in Wednesday and they said I should find out in about a week. So I'm anxiously waiting!

How I passed my second semester of LPN school
Thank you for all of the advice! It's nice to see a real life experience of an LPN student, so all of us newbies know what to expect.

Hubby says to take a mental 2 day break
Take the break! Once your classes start back up, you won't have time to!

Study time
I use StudyBlue. It's free, online flashcards. You can also download the app to your phone to take your flashcards on the go. It allows me to spend less type physically writing out flashcards and more time studying them.

Drive
An hour is a bit of a hike! But I'm sure it's worth it :). My drive will be about half an hour or so. Not too bad!

What kind of nurse are you/will you be?
I am currently awaiting my (hopeful) acceptance to LPN school! As soon as that is over, I plan to do an LPN-RN bridge. Then I will either do an RN-BSN-NP pathway or a RN-NP pathway depending on which schools I can get into and where I am living. What sacrifices have I made? I will go from working 25-30 hours a week to about 10 hours a week once my LPN program starts. But I'm sure it'll be worth it in the long run. I am hopefully attending the Central School of Practical Nursing near Cleveland, Ohio in April. Good luck to you on your journey!

Nervous/Scared
Today is your first day! Please come back and update us when it's over :). I haven't started LPN school yet (hopefully in April), but I have taken Anatomy and Physiology and classes like that. I used an online flashcard program to help me study. It's called StudyBlue (you can just google it). It was a lot faster than trying to write out hundreds of notecards. I also downloaded the app for it on my phone so I could study on the go. It was a HUGE help for me getting through those classes.

Looking for LPN program to attend in January
Hey Jade! I am unable to send private messages so I figured I would reply to you on here. I've done my entrance exams and my information session. I did the drug test and background check last week. I keep trying to go turn in all my application materials but the school is closed for snow, so hopefully it will finally reopen Wednesday and I can go. How far into the admissions process are you?

Hey! I finished my entrance exams and did the information session. I'm turning in my application Wednesday when the school reopens from this snow storm. Have you done anything more yet?

Central School of Practical Nursing- Ohio
Hi everyone! I am currently looking into LPN programs near Cleveland, OH for next spring or fall. One that I am really interested in is CSPN in Independence. I've heard they have a good reputation. Also, theirs is the class starting the soonest around here (at the end of March). I go on Wednesday to take their entrance exam (just simple reading comprehension and math). Has anyone been to this school or know anything about it? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Anyone starting school in april 2014
I am currently looking into it! I am taking a tour of the school on Monday and getting ready to sign up for the entrance exam. Are you already admitted into the program?
