NYU hiring process
Janurse 1990, I got an email last night to fill out an ETSA form. That was it.

Hi everyone, the meds test is super easy. I got hung up on one, I think it was micrograms or something? Anyway, does anyone know what kind of shoes you're allowed to wear? Color-wise? Also where did people get the seafoam scrubs? Thanks!

NYU hiring process
Hi everyone, for people who are waiting I want to say, stay positive! I applied in October, interviewed twice for two different positions in December, did not receive an offer for either. Then I went to a February interview day, and then they asked me to come interview for a position in late March. THEN they asked me to interview again last week for an entirely different position. So over 8 months I interview quite a bit, and just received an offer. Stay positive! Also, how soon after submitting those documents did you get more info?

And one more thing--NYP-Methodist in Brooklyn has an externship, but they don't advertise it. You have to go to the recruiting office. Get two letters of recommendation, bring resumes. Maybe call the nursing recruitment before to ask exactly what to bring. But I know they have one and it's pretty much a lock for a job in the fall!

You're welcome! I am not 100% positive but around 3.3ish I believe. Apply regardless, what do you have to lose?!?

I wouldn't stress yourself with that, I know people sub-3.5 that received offers.

You are very welcome, and I wish you the best of luck. It's hard but we just have to keep plugging along and try to be positive. It'll happen!

If they told you to wait it out, I would do that. They have all the power, so we just have to wait and accept the situation. I think they collect candidates. Continue to apply elsewhere though, in time we'll get jobs, but I think we have to keep our options open.

I applied to that and some other positions. At this point I have interviewed for three different positions with nine different NYU people. And now no one evens answers an email, I'm really not sure what to do but it is very discouraging and unprofessional.

Sorry, maybe I didn't reply directly to you. Did you attend the February 15th PeriOp Interview Day? I received email about still being under consideration last night, was wondering if you received your good news today. Congrats!

What was it like to be a nurse in the 1980s
Oh wow you were a nurse in Manhattan in the early stages of AIDS? I would love to hear anything you had to say about that if you didn't mind or have the time.

Career change and nearly 40 - need advice :)
Hi there, good for you on the career change. I don't have answers to all your questions, but I did want to let you know about CLEP examinations. For some of the prerequisites you can take a CLEP exam and that counts as fulfilling that requirement. I did a CLEP for a psychology requirement, depending on tuition it can save you upwards of $1000 (and a semester). Different schools have different prerequisites, so maybe zero in on the program(s) you most want to pursue and focus on fulfilling those prerequisites. I think a lot of them require Statistics, and then maybe just a basic math course. And I think most require at the very least A&P I & II, Chemistry and some sort of Biology. Good luck!

Breakups during nursing school.
Just keep moving forward, as you are. You'll be stronger for it. I'm hoping to start a program soon, but my mother died unexpectedly (and young) last week. I have no idea how I'm going to keep moving, but sometimes it's the only thing you can do.

Suny Downstate accelerated Program 2015-2016
Hi, I also tried to start a similar thread, I only had one hit. I wanted to apply in October but wound up applying a week before the deadline because I did a retake of the TEAS. Hoping to hear sooner than later but I'm guessing that's wishful thinking.

Mid-forties Nurse - Thinking about my future
Just out of curiosity, what is 'coding' as it relates to nursing?

SUNY Downstate ABSN 2016-2017
Hello thanks for responding! I sat for the TEAS-V retake yesterday, so either way I'm applying before the 30th. Did you submit already? I read your other post, I'm sorry I have no information about those programs. Are you applying anywhere else? I've also been looking at Pace, but SUNY is also my top choice. I wish you luck with your SUNY application and thanks again for responding!

SUNY Downstate ABSN 2016-2017
Good evening everyone, hopefully someone stumbles upon this thread. I sat for the TEAS-V on Thursday, and just received my results. For the math portion I only received the bare minimum--80%. Needless to say, I am crestfallen. An 80% in math is not even worth applying with to SUNY's ABSN program, correct? I received an 95% in reading, have an 4.0 in my prerequisite GPA, as well as an JD, but I feel like this 80% in math will ruin me. Any advice or suggestions anyone would have would be greatly appreciated.

Can a nurse survive on several per diem jobs?
Do you mind me asking what your work from home job is? Are you still in the nursing field?

Nursing school when there is no true RN shortage?
Congratulations on the job! Where are you located, if I may ask?

Living independently while in Nursing school, is it possible?
Hi there, I just wanted to chime in that I also think it's doable. You could look into sublets, getting a roommate, renting a room from someone, etc. Maybe renting a room would be best, especially if it's from an older couple or a family. That way it's possibly more likely it'll be quieter than renting with other college students. Also not to be a negative nelly, but try and not put yourself in a situation where you are dependent on anybody else for your housing than yourself. A lot of things happen in relationships, you don't want to be in the lurch, in a situation where suddenly you have to pay all the rent when you thought you'd only be paying half. Good luck, you are doing a great job so far and you have a great head on your shoulders!
