  1. DO IT! I started at Parkland as a student PCA after my first semester of nursing school and it was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. Even though you're just a PCA you will see and learn SO much! Most of the units are pretty flexible with nursing students regarding scheduling (at least on my floor) and I've never had a problem getting the shifts I've requested (like never ever). And if you are interested in working there as an RN after you graduate, this is definitely your best ticket in. What unit were you offered a position on?
  2. It probably wouldn't hurt! Is the job fair specific for nursing or hospitals? I would find out what hospitals/etc. are going to be there and decide from there. But I think it's worth it just to get your resume in the hands of a recruiter!
  3. Right?! I feel you there....definitely the most difficult part! I'm sure you will do amazing though! Mine is on the 9th :) Just ready to get it over with!
  4. I also applied to SICU and received an invitation to interview! Briterz - What day is your interview? Soo nervous/excited!
  5. Anyone have any updates on Baylor's internships??
  6. Practice questions practice questions practice questions practice questions. Practice Questions! It's too late to go back and read through and re-learn everything. My strategy was to do practice questions on the Evolve website (our school made us buy access to HESI RN Case Studies and HESI RN Practice Tests) and then read the rationales for every question - even the ones you got right. While I was doing that, I made a list of things I didn't know and I only looked up/read about those things. For example, If I got a question wrong because I forgot the pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis or the normal range for albumin, I'd write that down. That strategy made me nervous at first because I felt like I was neglecting a TON of information, but I realized I remembered a lot more than I thought! So don't waste your time on stuff you know, do practice questions, read the rationales, and look up the stuff you don't know. My instructors suggested we do at least 50 practice questions a day and no more than 150. I can't personally vouch for that because I hardcore love to procrastinate.....but if you're disciplined enough to do that I have no doubt you will at least pass, if not kick HESI in the butt. However, I definitely suggest doing a couple of practice tests that are 150 questions because HESI is 160. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but around question 120 I started misinterpreting some of the questions and making some silly mistakes. So practice taking longer tests and definitely take a little break in your seat halfway through if letters start turning into egyptian hieroglyphics. Hope this helps! Good luck :)
  7. They posted the February 2014 residencies for NNICU and L&D early this year! But they haven't posted any other residencies besides those 2 and OR for February 2014. You haven't missed all of them, don't worry! :)
  8. HCA hasn't posted their internships for January 2014 yet, and I'm pretty sure THR hasn't either (that's what I was told, but I'm not planning on applying to THR so I haven't really been paying attention). Parkland has only posted their NNICU, L&D, and OR residencies for February 2014 so far. I'm pretty sure UTSW is done (I don't see the RN I Intern position on their website anymore), and the recruiter I talked to at Methodist said they would be taking the intern positions down and calling people this week or next. No idea what Baylor is doing!
  9. I'm graduating in December as well and we've been told not to expect our ATT until after the holidays. I guess it just depends on how fast your school sends the required documents to the BON!
