  1. Has anyone applied to the fall residency? I applied but haven't heard anything either way, however I noticed some new listings within the past few days that say they start October 2013 (I was under the impression it started in September.) I called and left a message with one of the recruiters, but now i'm wondering if they pushed the start date back because of the government survey. If they didn't pass they probably wouldn't have hired a bunch of new nurses. Anyone that's applied heard anything yet?
  2. Interesting, all I know is that they are hiring new grads for September right now and there is no evidence that there is any sort of shortage! They've probably had half as many openings this time around as previously. Maybe less.
  3. I'm wondering the same as well. I have applied for the September Cohort!
  4. Just read up on Group One and i'm not worried. I was completely honest on my application, have never had as much as a speeding ticket and all past and present employers love me. Or are you saying I should worry about being "blacklisted" in the future??
  5. My husband can work anywhere (he's self employed) however, I'm not comfortable moving unless I have a job. Utah is also a compact state I've called all the hospitals I've applied to and the TBON and I can practice under my compact license for 90 days so I'm not concerned about that. I have found a few hospitals that will take an ADN (I know Baylor and Methodist systems want BSN's) but it sounds like its probably very competitive. I'm doing my capstone at an LTAC so I do plan on applying to as many of those as possible as well as smaller community hospitals in surrounding areas. Thanks for the input, off to review more posts!
  6. Hi everyone, I currently live in Utah but we are moving to Dallas shortly after I graduate in early August so I've been doing a lot of research on the area. It "appears" that Dalllas a great job market for nurses. However, I keep reading a lot of negative posts on here about the seemingly impossible job market for new grads. They aren't super recent (I think the most recent I read was 2012) so I'm wondering is it still really as dire as you all make it sound? Especially since I do not have a BSN (I have worked as a Tech at the hospital for the past 2 years, am ACLS and PALS certified and have a 4.0 GPA). I have applied to several Residency positions and also plan on applying to every LTAC, SNF and rehab within a 40 mile radius of where we will be living (although I can't apply to any of those until I've passed my boards) but I'm worried not that I've gotten the hubs hopes up for no reason! As always, thanks for your input!
  7. Thank you! It helps a lot! I was just confused about the openings because they posted new Nurse Resident Openings on 5/28 If you don't mind my asking, whats the difference between a hospitalist and medical floor? Probably seems like a silly question but I want to apply to the right departments. At my hospital all the floors are specific specialties (I work orthopedics and neurosurgery, we also have an oncology floor, GI/GU floor, Cardiac floor, an entire floor for Renal and stroke patients etc.) One last question for anyone that knows. How far in advance do they usually offer positions? I've seen a lot of people that have received offers for the July start already but If I go back to the September start from last year people didn't seem to find out until 4'ish weeks before they were supposed to start. Thanks again and congrats on ER!! That would be a dream come true, although I'm happy to work in any type of acute care setting!
  8. There are a lot of Parkland threads for past and present Residencies. We are considering a move to Dallas when I graduate (if I get a job of course). I've called the recruitment office at least 6 times in the last 2 weeks and either I never get through to anyone or they refer me to someone else, who then never answers. The only person I've talked to is the secretary and she can't answer much. I've left multiple voicemails. I plan on calling AGAIN next week but since it looks like a lot of people have been through the process and program I'm hoping someone here can answer some questions. When do they post listings for the September start? There are quite a few openings listed still but it sounds as if most of the July positions have been filled (gathered through reading every.single parkland thread!). So now I'm wondering if they are for the September Cohort (although I was told by the secretary they wouldn't be up until July) What do all the listings mean?? Example: 7N hospitalist, 7 South Hospitalist, 10W Medicine etc Whats the difference between Nurse Residency and Nurse Fellowship? How competitive is it? I'm concerned because I'll only be graduating with my ADN (I know critical care is probably out of the question), I am #1 in my class and have worked at my local hospital as a tech for 2 years though. Any input or advice would be really appreciated! I'm worried I'm going to completely miss the listings for the September start since none of the current listings say specifically what the start date is. Thank you all in advance! Bethany
  9. I called and talked with the recruitment office. I was told they have a September start but now you have me worried! I guess I'd better call back and double check. Searching this forum though, it appears they've had September starts in past years (search "parkland September").
  10. Does anyone know how the fellowship listings are different than the residency's? Pay? Length of program?? I'm applying for the September start but can't get a hold of anyone at the recruitment office to ask! Congrats to all!! I hope to join you in September!
  11. I'm in Utah right now, I graduate in July and we Plan on moving to Texas as soon as I've taken my boards, does this mean I can take my test here but have the results sent to TX and be licensed there?? Or am I completely misunderstanding what you said :) Thanks!
  12. Hello Everyone!! I just read through all 30 pages of this rather anxiously! I hope you don't mind the imposition but I am applying for Parklands September residencies and am putting finishing touches on my resume, I was hoping that since you all have been through the process you could offer some advice as what to include. I've left multiple messages at the recruitment office trying to get more information but haven't heard back from anyone yet, I'm sure they are busy at the moment but we are moving from out of state so I don't know a lot of the details and inner workings like those of you that already live in the area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Also, they currently have a LOT of Nurse Resident positions listed on their website, since it seems a lot of July positions have been filled just from this thread, are those for the September start? Does anyone know? I've talked to the secretary at the recruitment office and she didn't know when the start dates were for the current listings. Also, anyone know the difference between the nurse resident and nurse fellowship? This is another question I asked but since I just talked to the secretary she wasn't able to answer me. Thanks in advance!! Bethany
