  1. I have heard of some people being asked for references via email. Sadly I have not received this request and have a feeling that is a bad sign. Wishing you the best!
  2. Never felt this to pertain to me in my year and a half as a student. The other day I had a patient's mother (in the peds unit) give me an odd look and say she did not expect to see a male nurse. I told her that we are in fact a rare breed, we have the blood of tigers and bones made of carbon fibre. She laughed. I then told her that this has never been proven because none of us have ever died.
  3. Congratulations!!! Have either of you looked into living on campus? Personally I don't, but I know many that do and they love it. If your looking for a place in the immediate area it will cost a bit more. Good luck to you.
  4. My nursing school is roughly 30% male students. Of these students I have met one gay man. That is just my experience. As far as stereotypes I imagine that just matters were you live. I live in the inner city and everyone I talk to loves the idea of males entering the nursing field. My family and friends ask how my girlfriend puts up with my career choice (being surrounded by mostly women in the clinical setting).
  5. Sorry to hear of your dismissal. Use this time to deal with the causative factor of your attendance and reapply when you are ready. Best of luck.
  6. I imagine you will need to retake these classes. If you got a C your first run I do not recommend taking any advance classes until you understand the core concepts. What you should do is contact the admissions office at the schools you wish to apply and ask for their advice. This will not only give you advice straight from the source but allow you to make contact with them and start to build a relationship with the admissions department.
