I work for them and I thinks it's a great place to work. Been there close to 2 months. Pay depends on a bunch of stuff but it's good. Benefits rock out loud. You can technically be working from home is you are offered the option within 6-7 months.

Keep your head up I am a month in and it's different from what I'm used to. Take it one day at a time and you will get there. Are you getting orientation?

Great day thanks. Lots of terminology and different processes to get accustomed to. I always have to remind myself I'm on the business side of things and not at the bedside. It's different to advocate for the patient when there are rules and regulations and criteria involved. The pace is different and takes some getting used to. Everything is beginning to come together and it's been 2 weeks which feels great. Day by day I'm becoming more comfortable so I'm sure it's gonna bet much better. It's a bit overwhelming like some have said but there is light at the end of the tunnel. This week I'll have my first hospital with out direct help. I'll let u know how it goes :-)

I work for an insurance company doing utilization review.

I will hopefully be working from home because it's a great option that is offered where I work and I would love not to have to travel in and get dressed up to go to work;) . I love it so far...very interesting. Did u get that job?

I'm a new cm nurse and I will be working from home hopefully by December . I would like to hear that answer as well.

Hello all I am starting my new utilization review Rn position next week for a big insurance company in NYC and I would love any advice, warnings, or anything else you wish to offer to help me during those first weeks. I am a new utilization review nurse but I do have an extensive Er back ground as well as gi, ICU step down and tele experience. No case management experience. This is a great opportunity as they are willing to train me and pay pretty well for training me. I am excited and scared...... Thanks in advance for the replys.

Hello, You can try Walden University and see if they can help you. I have and ADN nursing and a BT in electrical engineering technology and I am currently in waldens MSN progran. I actually had no problem getting into the MSN program with my non nursing bachelors. Best of luck to you

I am also a student at Walden University and I abolutely love it :redbeathe. I am in the MSN program with the education specialty. It is a whole bunch of papers but if you can knock that out you should really do well. I am due to take 6140 and I think that I have 6 or 7 classes to go before I am done Start looking into the APA format because it is the format of choice for papers and the more familiar you are with it the better of you will be. I will answer the bell if the nurse is not there and I am standing there. I make sure that the patient is ok then I let the nurse know. I expect the same in return. If the nurse is there I have no problem with telling them "your patient is calling" and I keep moving. I have been on the call bell side of things and I do as I would like done to me. For the ones who ride the call bell I at least make sure that they are safe by walking by even if I dont answer all of the time. Best wishes to all.

I also started on a cardiac floor and It was very helpful when I decided to move to the emergency department. The learning curve is high but it is also doable as long as the enviroment is supportive. Best of luck!

I work for Sentara and I have had friends who have done the same thing. Some where rehired and some were not. Best advice is to try again and see what happens. Best of luck.

All it means it that you got either enough right or enough wrong for the program to determine your competence(sp?). I got only 75 questions and I was done in 35 minutes and I passed. If you do your best then thats all you can do. Good luck and do not overstress. Try not to overstudy. D-

well it was decided that it is not workers comp:angryfire . i was told that I did not fit in the guidelines of wc so I asked to see the guidlines and have not seen them thus far..... i went to ortho today (2nd day post injury)and was told i need an mri and that i have some quad atrophy as well as blood in the joint (20 cc aspirated) which means i have a sinifigant injury:o . I am still unsure what the muscle atrophy means. The docs are sure that I have mcl damage. Anyone ortho knowlegable that can explain the signif of the blood in the joint and the atrophy. it was explained but when i got the aspiration news i seem to have forgotton what was said..(i guess i lose nurse pts hahah:lol2: ) thanks D-

Hello to all. yesterday I was assisting with a proceedure (no blood or gore involved) and after bending over for a while (to assist) I had a vagal response and I passed out . I ended up spraining my leg really badly and I cannot bear weight on that leg at all. I am not sure when I will be able to return to work. would this be a workers comp issue? I have never had this happen before and I was checked out in th ed and all turned out well. What do you all think? D-

I agree with all of the above. PLEASE NEVER NEVER NEVER apologize for calling ANY doc. That is what they get paid for. Its like saying Dr smith I am so sorry that you have to wake up and help me do the job that ONLY YOU get paid 100,000 dollars for doing..... I had to write a doc up for telling me not to call him (the on call doc) after 10pm or before 6 am for anything.:angryfire That really makes me livid. Use your best judgement, becasue if you should have called and you dont you get reamed, if you call and you shouldnt have you get reamed. Just do the best you can for your pts and whatever with the docs. It will all come to you. Good luck Donna

That is really none of his business so no I wouldnt bring it up unless he asked and then I would still tell him non of his business or what concern is it of his?Even if he does like you he is an adult and could find a way to approach you with out getting others involved. Good luck Donna

I used it as well. The content was good and the screen format was good as well. When I took the NCLEX I was at ease because the screen looked the same as the practice screen was. I have been a nurse for a year and 10 months with my first 9 months in Cardiac stepdown and my last year in the PCU or Icu stepdown. I have been offered a lateral move in our hospitals Ed. I was told that I will have 6-8 week of orientation(which I dont feel is enough due to the fact that I have no critical care experience). we have a pretty big ed that sees aboud 250 people per day. Do you think that the orientation is suffient being that I am not brand spanking new? What other questions should I ask with regards to my orientation? Should I push for more time? Help
