Yet another RN to BSN question....
I completed my BSN and am currently working on my MSN at Kaplan Universtiy (all online). The cost is more than a brick and mortar buiding but for me the time saved and flexibility is worth it. They are accreditated and have a well developed program that has prepared me for the next phase of my nursing career. I have no plans on retiring soon so the $30,000 dollars I will pay is worth it for me when my pay will increase and I will earn more in the long run. Good luck.

anyone from abilene tx??
My husband and I were stationed in Abilene, TX for a little over 7 years. There is a major Air Force Base located there.(Dyess AFB). I am originally from the Houston area, so west Texas took some getting used to. The summers are very hot and the winters are fairly mild. Areas on the south side of town are the "nice" areas. Schools are fairly even on that side of town. There is Fairway Oaks which is where Doctors and such live. River Oaks area is also very nice. I have a girlfriend who is a teacher there, I could ask her about elementary and middle schools. Which hospital will you work for??? Hendrick or Abilene Regional. I went to nursing school while stationed there and went to work for Hendrick Medical Center. Let me know if any of this helps. Shunna

Commute or move
I commuted 1 1/2 hours for 1 full year when I went back for my RN degree. I knew the commute before I applied, so it came as no surprise for clinical or school. Days throughout the year ranged from 3-4 days a week. I also worked part time on the weekends, and am a wife and a mother. My motto is anything worth having is worth working for. I can do anything for a little while, which will benefit me in the long run. Good luck in whatever it is you choose to do.

Any Dekalb Med Nurses out there?
I interviewed there a couple of years ago and was not too impressed. I have have some friends that work there and they're pretty happy. As with any job, its what you make of it. If you are going into it with your eyes open and with the intentions of learning everything you can(both good and bad) you will be just fine. Good Luck Shunna

ortho patient load
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you all kidding??? I am currently completing a contract in orthopedics. The nurse patient ratio on days is 1:4-5 and on nights it is 1:5-6. The numbers you all are quoting.....I just can't believe it. Orthopedics is extremely diffiicult and is a heavy floor. I love nursing and very much value my license. I refuse to put either in jeopardy. The day I'm told I will have 7 or more orhto pts will be the day I calmly tell them to kiss my tush.

Atlanta L&D
Hi, I am not a L&D nurse, but THE hospital to have a babe is Northsiide Hospital. I think it is located in Sandy Springs. I live in Chamblee(Dekalb count). It is one of the best areas for schools. My son attends Chamblee Middle School (Magnet School). The area is really nice, just a little expensive. You can send me a PM if you want to know more information, I would love to help. Shunna

Hey guys I am currently finishing up a contract in Georgia (July 15). I am very interested in going out to California to make some extra money for the rest of the summer. The thing is I dont want to sign another 13 week contract. Are there any agnecies or hospitals willing to put me to work for 1 week periods???? I have a friend of a friend who supposedly came out and was making $5-7,000 per week. I am willing to work 16 hour days for 6-7 days a week for 2-3 weeks at a time.
