  1. I believe the Bible and all it stands for. So, yes, I would rather 'believe' some bronze age nomad writings than science. My faith is more than just casual interest.
  2. Regarding the time it took to create the earth, the Bible says "But remember this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." 2Peter3:8 NIV. Science is very important but it does not answer or explain everything. Some things cannot be explained by science or even at all. 1 Corinthians 1:27-30 says this; "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things - and the things that are not to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God..."
  3. Evolution is fact, anything else is superstition. The theory of evolution still has so many gaps it, attempted to be given credibility by a lot of creativity. It is not conclusive so it cannot be fact. Creation, at least, is backed up by history. "If we evolved, then the Bible is a lie and I should just toss it." Yes. Until they can say without any doubt and the gaps are filled in WITH FACTS, I'll hang on to my Bible.
  4. I, too, believe in Creation. I believe in the Bible completely. If we evolved, then the Bible is a lie and I should just toss it. Whether one believes in evolution or Creation, Nursing care should be provided with respect to all people.
  5. True. Many people are not Christian but have all the qualities that make life easier and more pleasant for others. Some Christians do not exhibit these qualities and it's unfortunate that they give Christians a bad image. As a born-again Christian, one would have - one should have - The Holy Spirit actively and progressively working in one. Fruits of the Spirit include, among other qualities, patience, love and hope. Our Lord Jesus Christ was a loving, patient, generous and kind man and He is the standard we work to achieve. It's a wonderful thing to have The Holy Spirit working in you. Being the Salt of the Earth, means that we should touch the people around us in a positive way.
  6. It's an amazing story. God provides and always in time. I have heard of many such stories where people have been saved by Good Samaritans. I believe without any doubt that God uses other people to do His work. I have also heard of people who say they've encountered Angels. God can do anything; why wouldn't He send Angels if that was the best interventions?
  7. Beautiful! Thank you:)
  8. Sorry that you're having a difficult time. I was prescribed antidepressants in my early thirties. They worked but I stopped taking them thinking I could pull myself out of the deep, dark hole I was in. I went into seclusion and I got even worse. My children and husband suffered - not to mention my other relationships. I'm happily on my meds again. I've embraced them and I don't want to come off them ever again. Looking back, I caused myself and my loved ones unnecessary pain. I've been seeing a psychotherapist and she's helped me with coping skills. I've challenged myself to come out of my comfort zone and stretch myself occasionally. I'm not Miss Congeniality but I can cope with meeting new people and I actively participate in my Ministry lectures. Please get help. Nobody should feel so bad about anything. Maybe once you have worked out how to properly cope in stressful situations, you may not need to take your meds anymore.
  9. My decision to be a nurse was influenced by my faith. I never imagined I would be a nurse until I was 38 years old and I had a life-changing spiritual encounter. Now, here I am... I'll be starting Nursing School in June and I can hardly wait. I believe we are all on earth to fulfil a particular purpose that is part of a highly intricate plan. I believe in one God, who created everything seen and unseen. His plan is what we are here to accomplish but we were created with the ability to choose whether or not to be part of that plan. Having said that, I chose to be a nurse in order to, among other things, alleviate pain, bring enlightenment (education, help solve problems, bring Jesus to those who don't know him) and to care for those in whatever need. Christianity, according to the blue-print given to us by Jesus, is a caring faith. My mum was another very important influence on my decision to be a nurse. She was a trained nurse but because in Africa, where problems are very often complex, she ended up working with the very poorest of communities, advocating and equipping them with skills to help them to alleviate poverty. Caring and education often go hand in hand, in that many health problems can be solved by means not necessarily medical but require multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral approaches and solutions. Diseases caused by poor nutrition are examples which can be solved by equipping people with skills to grow food - food security - and the most efficient use of food - proper nutrition. Those best positioned to help, in this example, would be the departments of Agriculture, Education for school feeding programmes and projects and department of Health, especially nurses and nutritionists. Either way, whether or not we become nurses for spiritual reasons, I believe nursing should be something we selflessly do for other people's benefit and if we get something out, well, yay!
