RN starting in LTC
Congrats to you! Get as much experience as you can. I too am a semi new grad and my first job is LTC. Don't really care for it, but we all have to start somewhere. I love my residents and try best by them, but not the politics amongst other things (short staff, lack of supplies, etc..). Some people really enjoy LTC, but I know it's not for me, therefore I will move on at some point.

LTC 101: What To Expect
Ltc is no joke! The work is so hard both physically and mentally. I can't see myself doing it much longer. I refuse to break my body down because upper management refuse to hire more staff in order to save money, but want me to kill myself in the mean time. I will get as much experience as I can and then I am out! I really hate the fact that I can't give my resident's the care they deserve! Some of those folks hold a special place in my heart.

Too tired to do anything on days off
I also feel tired when I work two to three shifts in a row. I work ltc and it can be very draining. Once I get home all I want to do is soak my feet and take a mental break. I try to spend quality time with my family but end up falling asleep on them. I force my self to get some sort of exercise in and that helps a lot. After my third day off I feel energized. Luckily I am part time and have time to recuperate before starting the cycle all over again.

LPN'S are not going anywhere!
Lpn's are valuable, but personally I would most definitely want to aspire to get my RN. I am a new RN grad and have learned a lot from the seasoned LPN'S in the LTC setting, but I see a lot of complacency also. I feel that just being an ADN nurse is not enough, therefore I have enrolled to get my BSN. Times are changing and I feel that we have to change with the times move forward and advance. There are most definitely more options for RN's with advanced degree's out there.
