  1. Thanks to everyone for your comments and advice! Dealing with 70+ visits a day and this was beginning to feel very overwhelming. I think I just needed some fellow nurses' input. I spoke to my supervisor in health services and school administrators about my concerns. The plan is if she comes in & attempts to talk to me I immediately refer her to administration and let her know this topic is no longer up for discussion with me. My principal says she has no issue with telling her she's not welcome on campus anymore. I have attempted contacting the CPS investigator to let her know what is going on, and how irrational she is acting, but have not heard back from her yet. One of the local police officers that comes to our campus on occasion should be there tomorrow and I will get his opinion as well. Thanks again for all of your suggestions & support! Hopefully this will all be resolved soon.
  2. I'm right near the front office, so they usually jump up when they see her, but she always acts very calm like she's going to apologize, then comes in and starts up on me again. I did tell her it wasn't me, but then immediately regretted that decision. Even if it had been me she has no right to act this way, and I don't want her thinking I'm saying we're in the wrong in any way. We're all trying to advocate for her child! I've tried saying that I'm sorry she's in this terrible situation and being sympathetic but she just rolls her eyes at me. She acts very much like she's starting to come unhinged, and that's what scares me. Also, I park in the nurse spot, so I do worry about my vehicle, I'll probably start parking somewhere else. I thought about calling the caseworker but I'm afraid this will only make the situation worse if they say something to her. I know they are still investigating the case and if she didn't do anything wrong as a nurse this has to feel terrible, knowing your license may also be on the line. In that case, she should be upset with her kid for lying, but if she did do it she can only blame herself. I'm just a scapegoat! My boss & administration are all supporting me which is great. It doesn't help she's one of those nurses that feels school nursing is a huge joke although I work solo in a very busy clinic. I could see her trying to retaliate by going to the BON, although I know she has no case.
  3. I am having a situation at work with a parent (who sadly also happens to be a nurse) harassing me in my clinic. CPS was called on her (not by me) at school and she assumes it was me. Don't get me wrong, I would have reported her if I would have thought there was a reason to, but the child told me they had accidentally hurt themself, then changed the story later in the day. Regardless, now Mom keeps coming into my clinic and spewing hate at me. I am being supported by administration, but the situation makes me feel very uneasy. Has anyone else had to deal with this type of issue? What did you do about it? The school is getting a better security situation next year, but currently anyone can just walk in the front door and get to my clinic.
  4. Iodoform packing in the OR.
  5. Yes, I was very honest with him and let him know I was interviewing, and let him know they would be calling when I found out. He did tell me he would never stand in the way of someone trying to better themselves. I just feel bad because we are a very small department, we work a lot of call hours, and are stretched very thin as it is. So I know it will become even harder on them once I leave. They are all understanding and know this is why I need to leave but I rather them only get upset about this once, when I'm actually leaving!! Thanks for replying!
  6. Hello everyone, I finally have the required experience to apply for a school nursing position, so took the leap and applied back in August to a school district. Recently I had an interview with the Health Dept. and a principal at one school. I'm very interested in the position at this school, and was told that at the end of my interview that they were interviewing one more applicant, and the next step in the selection process would be to call references. Today I received a call from the principal verifying my current manager's phone number to call him for a reference. On the school district's website it says 'Notice: If you are selected for a job, your immediate supervisor will be contacted prior to a final offer of employment'. Do I take this to mean I should be getting an offer of employment if all goes well with them speaking to my current manager? It has me concerned that this will cause a rift in my department if they are called, I get no offer, and I continue to work there with them now knowing for sure I'm trying to leave. Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone had their current manager called and not been offered employment? I'm just curious. I really hope to get a job offer, I've been wanting to be a school nurse since doing my immersion in nursing school. I'm nervous about the transition from hospital nursing but believe I am up for the challenge. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what the best option is for deciding between Galen and Hallmark. I've heard about some experiences with Galen but I'm having trouble finding any info about the Hallmark program from students who have gone there. I've been trying to compare the pros vs cons with the 2 school. So far I have the following info: Accredidation: Galen- just received the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. They also have agreements with a couple of schools that will accept credits towards a BSN which is important. Hallmark- I have no idea if they are accredited are not, cannot find this information Program Length: Galen- unfortunately in San Antonio they don't have the 2-yr Associates, so I will have to first do the LVN, then do the LVN to RN. Total amount of time is 27 months. Hallmark- 20 months Admission Requirements: Galen- Pax PN to get into LVN program, then the PAX RN for the RN program (?) Hallmark- TEASV Cost: Galen- this is where the unfortunate lack of the 2-yr associates really hurts. If you add the 2 programs together it cost around $43,000 to become an RN in San Antonio. ($10,000 more than it costs to get the 2 yr associates at their other campuses) Hallmark- cannot find any info on the cost. It's not on their website, and I can't find it anywhere else either. So it seems overall that it's easier to get into Galen, it's accredited, and it's likely that you won't have a problem continuing on to get a BSN. But it will take longer, and it seems like it would be more expensive. Does anyone have any more info that they can share, or maybe their experience with either school? I have found some info on classes from '09 and '10, but none too recently. I'm also curious about the ability to obtain employment with no experience and only an associates vs the "preferred" BSN. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
