  1. Of course we can keep in contact! You can message me your email if you like!! And preceptors I am worried about finding this. I found a facebook group that is for SNP that are finding preceptors. They give options and some help other then that I am resorting to walk in clinics and well my own PCP just left so she is out of the question. Just have to start early and dig out there. I just received my syllabus for theories class and boy it is a lot of writing and discussions boards for 6weeks. I am now nervous!!!
  2. Hey! Actually I don't start until the end of October so I have a full time job as well and work parttime elsewhere. I know I am at an overkill on it! I will let you know when I start it!!! I am more nervous over finding preceptors!
  3. Hey Vastib! I ended up choosing Olivet, the non for profit did interest me and the fact I looked up real NP who graduated from there and are working today. I know Chamberlain is new in terms of their FNP. However I only know of those few who have now passed their boards. It is 24months but most schools are like that unless you check out Vanderbilt?
  4. Trust me, I have done my homework on both colleges. I have searched these forums endlessly on feedback but a lot of it is outdated. I have compared the non-for profit (olivet) and for-profit (Chamberlain) FNP options. It kind of has me worried in job outlook who is more willing to accept what education you have gone through. So my question is has anyone gone through Olivet and feel this is a good route? For those in Chamberlain are you feeling like it was worth it? I was also thinking future wise if I were to continue my education is it true most standard colleges will not take for-profit school credits? I know I could apply for somewhere "better" so to speak but my gpa came close to everyone's cut off requirement (rough family times during BSN hurt this) and these 2 places were able to accept it. Really trying to weight also going back into more debt...JOY! Any input would be appreciated!
  5. -Hits call light in a very packed ED for tooth pain and yells "I am dying right now" -"I'm having chest pain" See a box of chicken on person's lap. Take it away to start workup "What are you doing with my chicken I'm hungry" ...you have Chest pain..no chicken for you. -Abdominal pain on a busy night..Hit the call light to complain that your TV doesn't have all the cable channels... -In the middle of a chest pain workup..they are upset because we can't drop everything to plug in your phone. -Call an ambulance for hunger pains. -Call asking if their wife's boil can be seen now in the ER or wait 30min to call PCP. -Wants the only pain med that works for their toe pain "Dalotto" -Drawing up blood and they freak out "YOU ARE TAKING TOO MUCH OF MY BLOOD I'll NEED A TRANSFUSION" -Positive STD "So I got that from using a dirty shaver?" "UH No probably from a dirty other..."
  6. "Monkey meat" lol
  7. Well Nina or Amber if you made it this far in the thread..probably not due to some "ME Shows". I hope for the best and I pray for your best recovery. You ladies are idols for going in knowing the risks and doing what you love.."Nursing".
  8. I didnt go in alone. Pharmacist came down explained it. There was an order set. Physician explained it but no one was clear on a good way to get it in. I figure a syringe of some sort may have been easier. I was just curious if anyone had here had the experience.
  9. Esme12..knew you'd nail it haha thanks. .is it a good immediate intervention thought or is it more long term?
  10. Last week one of these had to be given in the ED. So many confused looks on even veteran nurses as we tried to figure out this stuff. We were told it is basically like a strong cleaner, pretty potent. So is there a great way of applying this stuff? It was tried with a CBI tubing. However airflow was not able to allow the tubing to breathe..so to speak. Tried looking this up but curious of anyone else's experience with this...it was Rimso 50.
  11. Wow it is very common to have tough teachers. I had one that I referred to as Mrs.Puff from spongebob. She told us that those who pass with C's will be incompetent nurses. Also said those who have test anxiety is a poor excuse for never studying. Was I offended heck yea..I was the C student...J was the test anxiety taker and trust me Id rack my brain over studying. I turned out like a butterfly nurse though lol. How to overcome a tough person..feed them their own food. If she is making fun..laugh and play it. Then prove them wrong. You will face this in any field.
  12. ....You were my ED inspiration...sad....
  13. Left work...walked so far to the wrong parking lot...thought my car was stolen. Panicked on the phone with the police when I realized. I parked in a different spot...Also in a half asleep dream. Telling my significant other that I will get to that patien when I can the IV is in..let me just get some rest. Lol I was literally talking to my dirty clothes hamper.

Haha I second that level 2 trauma...morale is terrible..people are leaving to go to other states. They try to be motivating with posters and emails but we have been slammed with high census..low nurses..sorry i dont have advice but I can relate!
  15. Actually Morte..not knowing the situation if they are involved with CPS and having to submit to drug tests. If they refuse or miss it is considered a positive. Every case is different though.
  16. Once no matter how nice I was to this lady. She said I wiped her too much. When she clearly had Cdiff. She said I threw pills at her. When I gave her choices on what to take her pills with to make it easier to swallow and placed them in her applesauce. She kept going back and forth about how to take them. Then the final complaint....I SMILE too much. I ended up switching assignments and if I had to walk in her room someone was with me. Call me out for doing something wrong okay..but don't ever lie about me. Oh and don't smile too much. Haha
  17. VICKodin...he would yell down the hall..I want my ******* VICKodin. I've also had patients correct me when I am struggling with med words...its a 2 way street lol
  18. Yes I debated this personally thru my 20's now almost 30. I still say...eh I will pass. Watching child birth frightened me lol. Plus realizing how much I love sleep and I am pretty career focused since I restarted careers. All I do is work and enjoy my time. I don't know if I am meant to be a parent just take it by the day. By all means society also ruins my vibes of bringing a child in. Then again prince charming has been pushed aside because I am career focused. It makes me content currently. Plus I have a lovely little furbaby!!! However kudos to the hard working parents!
  19. Looks like by your paragraph you are leaning toward the dayshift surgery..thats a rare thing for our new grads in my area. So why not go for your gold...
  20. Now a "walking taco" might be offensive..then again..I am just hungry ?
  21. That is understandable about staffing issues. You need to do what you have to..just to survive. Best of luck on your journey! !
  22. I had this same burning question a couple months ago. Because my old NM tends to find write ups to lock folks in if they find out you want out. So the way I did it was I dropped a hint that I had interest in another unit in a casual meeting but that it wasn't being pursued at the time. I expressed that I wanted growth and a different challenge. So when the time came I applied and every place is different. In my case if you get an interview it says you have to tell. Well I got it and so it was hard but I went face to face. Luckily they heard the same news. So it was a perfect moment to talk it out. It all worked out shockingly and I received a good review. I learned that NM understand that people will come and go to try other things. So express how you have learned alot on your floor and you crave a different adventure..etc etc..Good Luck..try not to burn one if you're staying in the same hospital though.

Hey I just landed a job in my ER as well coming from a transfer. I literally took the time to visit the ER on my lunchbreaks. I networked like crazy as (music in my heart mentioned) lol I joined the ENA which is awesome for CE's! I introduced myself to the manager by email told her my past and interests pertaining ER. She wanted to interview me so I waited for an opening and tadaaaa. Landed it. It was rare for me because im kinda new but I was willing to show them. I will fight to hit my dream there. So connections is big but do some studying outside. As in look at some extra certs you can take..join the ENA..checkout onlineaha for some courses like ekg. Even if you don't land it it is great to join another unit and gain some start experience!
  24. So...you currently work on a med/surg hospital floor correct? You are wanting to go to LTH? What is the rush to go there now? I think you have a perfect opportunity to gain as much med surg as possible. Plus you are 3 months in a new job it will not look good that you jumped so quick. Unless LTH is your dream career....it can be difficult going back to a hospital..but it is not impossible. Plus you are juggling alot of patients in a more nursing home setting. It all depends on your true interest. However it is best advised to stick your first job out for a year especially on a more acute care level.
