    Thanks!! I'll look for it!
  2. Hey all, I've been on allnurses since I began my pre-reqs and yesterday I found out I passed my NCLEX, so this is my first post as an RN. I'm looking forward to being part of this L&D community, I start my job in two weeks. Nursing is a mid-life career change for me, my previous career had nothing to do with the medical field. When I began nursing school, L&D was not on my short list of interests, but I kept an open mind throughout school and when I had my clinicals -- wow, I became hooked! I will be going through this change with a large cohort, but I wondered if you had suggestions for any tools or resources I should start looking into now to help me be the best nurse I can be. Naturally I have my stethoscope, etc. from clinicals -- I need to replace my bandage scissors as mine disappeared (please lmk if you have specific recs -- my nursing school ones were just some stainless steel ones from Amazon). I have joined AWOHNN. Are there tools you've needed to pick up for yourself? Web sites/books/blogs you think would be helpful? Random bits of advice for this first year in the field? Thank you in advance for anything you are willing to share. I hope to do the same for another newbie once I have experience under my belt.
  3. I have had so many obstacles during this journey that it has been a slow process. Sometimes you have to just focus on the challenge right in front of you and knock that down, then deal with the next one. I just bought myself a bracelet with the inscription, "She knew she could do it, so she did" -- to keep me motivated for this next set of challenges. Always remember no matter what frustrations you are coping with, you are already ahead of those who haven't even started trying!
  4. Moody, Pooks, and JMG -- it looks like all of you are relatively new to allnurses. I found this site to be invaluable as I went through my pre-reqs, so as you work on additional classes, make sure you search through the Students boards. I found all kinds of links to videos and mnemonics and other studying resources. I had to delay my application process by a year due to health and and a death in the family and I was very discouraged, but I am now glad I stuck it out. Keep on keeping on as they say! Good luck!
  5. I received that email about the application being processed, even though I received my acceptance email on Monday. Things are definitely a bit screwy for some reason.
  6. Don't panic -- it seems to me like all the NVCC online stuff is running slowly today so email may be as well!
  7. Thank you, Pooks84! I am hoping you received yours as well!
  8. Check your emails!! Just received my acceptance letter!
  9. Got today's mail (Saturday) and still nothing. I presume it is the same for everyone else? Perhaps Monday?
  10. Just got today's mail, and there is no notice from NVCC. Also just checked email again. I sort of mentally have my mind set on it being Monday when we find out, but who knows, maybe tomorrow!
  11. Good luck to everyone! May we all get in and then perhaps we can meet up a little bit before the orientation to get to know each other. #fingerscrossed
  12. Someone said the 15th, so I was presuming maybe we'd get something in the mail Monday or Tuesday?
  13. I never got the email, just the hard copy letter! Does anyone by chance know what books are required for the first semester? I would like to start looking in used bookstores/online for as many of them as I can. Thanks!
  14. I received my "receipt of application confirmation" letter today! WooHoo!
  15. FedEx delivered my application Oct. 29 and I haven't received my confirmation yet. Please let me know when you receive yours!
  16. I just dropped my application off at FedEx earlier today. I'm surprised to hear everyone got in last session, I've always thought it was super-competitive to get into the program? Good luck, everyone!
  17. I second the recommendation for Mr. Ford's Class (Google it) for A&P -- I signed up as a member so I could see all the videos and it was a HUGE help for my accelerated 8-week class.
  18. Hello, I'm at the beginning of my journey -- I will take my last exam in my A&P I class tomorrow. I already have a degree in another (non-science) field, and am looking for recent info about what the typical profile of an accepted NVCC Online-Hybrid Track RN Student is. Not what the requirements are, but what the cumulative GPA and pre-req GPA, TEAS scores, etc. of the typically accepted student is if anyone has that info. I see so much talk on the pre-nursing student boards about how only students with 4.0s should apply and yet the requirements are obviously much lower than that -- I'd like to get an idea of where the reality lies. Thanks!
  19. bumping in case there is anyone out there who might know the answers to my questions...
  20. I've tried searching but haven't found this info, does anyone know what the current info is on the typical profile is of a student is who is accepted into the Northern Virginia Community College Online Hybrid RN program? I know what the minimum requirements are, I'm wondering what the cum/pre-rep GPA, TEAS, etc. of the accepted student is. Also, I am a little confused -- I have a bachelors degree, but the advisor I spoke to mentioned something about NVCC will only transfer in the credits I need to meet the requirements for the RN program -- so is my cum GPA based on what they transfer in or on my entire previous degree? I'm stressing a little bit because after my last exam, I think my BIO 141 grade may be teetering between an A and a B -- should I be very worried about this? Thanks!
  21. My all online (lab and lecture) A&P class started 8/21 and I'm already feeling a bit frustrated with the professor. I'm an older student and this is my first college course since earning my original (non-nursing-related) degree more than 20 years ago, so I don't know if my expectations were too high or what (I may be old, but I work in social media...) but I was expecting the professor to interact on the class discussion board more. I completed the first assignment on the first day and it has sat, ungraded all week long. Students have posted questions and days go by without acknowledgement. This is a 16-week course that has been condensed into 8 weeks and yet the professor appears to be making an appearance only once a week on the message board. We are basically educating ourselves. Has anyone else had this kind of experience with a pre-req course? We have a study guide, the Hole's text book, Connect, APR 3.0, a Chemistry text book and the discussion board. No other interaction with each other or the teacher except the discussion board. The subject matter itself is interesting! Thank you so much for the tips and materials you have been posting!
