  1. I took AP 1 one semester, than AP2 the next, than Micro and Chem together. I don't think it matters as long as you are sure to have enough time to study. Taking micro and chem together whilst working was beyond tough for me. I recieved a B in both classes when I probably could've gotten As in both if I was not working at the same time. If you have an open schedule it shouldn't be that bad as long as you manage your time.
  2. I'm still stuck on nursing too and wonder if SLP is too boring for me. I've had people warn me against nursing but my mom constantly tells me she would love it if I would go for nursing. But what helped me decide on SLP (for now at least lol..) was thinking about the pros/cons. With OT and SLP you have less chance of working holidays/weekends/overnight/double-shifts. In the future if you decide to get married/kids etc. you may prefer a job working daylight hours. Being a occupational therapist would be easier on the body/not as physically demanding, pays just as well, better work hours etc. and you may have less chance of burn out. This is all simply just what I've read/heard and picked up on. Hope I helped in some way to give you some peace of mind bc I know the feeling of stressing about making a choice. I'm in my junior year of finishing my bachelors but my best advice is to just relax and focus on the classes you are dealing with and do your best. It's never to late to change your mind.
  3. I'm in a really similar situation. I did ALL of my nursing pre-reqs and got my associates from a community college this past spring. All I had to do was take the TEAS test and start the application process but I decided to transfer to a local university and get my bachelors for SLP instead. I'm going to finish my bachelors for SLP and decide if I want to go to grad school for SLP or go to nursing school. I wasted a lot of time researching the same questions you are asking and I honestly lost sleep over it. It's really stressful having to make a decision like this where you are unsure because you don't want to waste anymore time/money. I personally think you should finish your bachelors for OT since you are already in honors. Find a way to include nursing pre-reqs in your bachelors degree and when you're done decide if you want to complete the masters to become an OT or go to nursing school. There are programs that let those who have a bachelors complete the nursing degree at a faster pace.
  4. I'm finished with my pre-reqs but I used plain old paper and pen. I have my MacBook which I use for school I'm general though. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  5. Get the air! I got the pro in sept 2011 when I was a freshman and it is pretty darn heavy to lug around it weighs around 10 lbs. I chose it over the air bc I thought I would miss the cd drive but I NEVER use it anyway. Majority of programs(like Microsoft office) or music/movies etc can be purchased and downloaded anyway. And if you want you can connect an external cd drive via USB or even through Bluetooth/wifi I believe. I love my MacBook for school, super reliable and easy to use, what I don't like is the weight. When I'm at home i don't mind it and barely notice the weight but it isn't travel friendly if you want to go to the library or throw it in your school bag. Textbooks notebooks are heavy enough and add a heavy laptop and you'll just avoid bringing it around. I prefer the school's computer than bringing my Pro to school to be honest bc it is so bulky to carry around with textbooks. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  6. Hi, Just updating(for anyone curious): I ended up with the grade B in both classes as my overall final grades... I'm grateful to not have any C's and my GPA is 3.4 so I can't complain. But I can't help but beat myself up and wish I had taken the classes separately because my goal was for As in both. My 3.47 dropped to a 3.40, it's just tough knowing I started the term hoping to get into the 3.5 range. I have one class left which is a random humanities(Gordon rule)and hopefully I can ace that and get a tiny extra boost on my GPA. I really had a tough time working a part time job and juggling these two sciences in particular. plus I'm terrible at time management and study habits which I have to work on. :/ Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  7. I take the chem final today and I honestly think I'm going to bomb it. My fault for not being able to time manage/juggle my two sciences and work. The final is cumulative and the study guide was around 15 pages. Thanks for the tips everyone I guess I have to suck it up and take this as a lesson. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  8. I took my micro final today, glad that's over with. Tomorrow I have my chemistry final but I feel sooo burned out from micro my brain is fried lol. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  9. I have a final on wednesday(micro) and thursday(chemistry). What are some ideas/tips to study for both evenly? :/ The past two nights of studying I've been working on micro with a goal in mind of where to stop and switch to study the other subject but I'm just finding that I don't move on to the next subject because I get caught up in the material and run out of time. How do you guys split time evenly to prepare for two exams the same wk? Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
  10. Eh, I have to disagree with this article. The situations Ernie has to deal with are up to him if he lets them hinder him or not. My parents were never involved in my schooling, asked about my grades, or anything like that. I barely met the requirements to graduate highschool but once I got to college and was focusing on classes towards my future career I was motivated and always maintain a high GPA. Doesn't matter where you come from, you can move past anything if you choose to.
  11. Also forgot to add, some good resources for highschoolers that are looking into different majors would be the collegeboard site. They have majors seperated into categories and there is a "health and medicine" category.
  12. Yes I completely agree! My parents(or any other adult) were never involved in my academic life and it would've been helpful to have someone help me research and find other options out there. I'm finishing up my nursing pre-requisites now but I've decided to go to university for a degree in Speech Pathology. I looked into it/researched it and decided I prefer to give myself another option. No one ever told me there were other things besides nursing so do your research! I may end up sticking to nursing but I'm going to give myself the chance to try for my bachelors in speech pathology. When I'm finished if I somehow decide I want to pursue nursing I will have all my pre-reqs completed and can apply to some nursing schools anyway.
  13. To those who were accepted what were your stats? GPA, TEAS scores? I'm applying for Fall '14 just trying to get an idea of what they're looking for.
  14. I just realized I overlooked the part where you said volunteering was a requirement for your school, just try to meet the minimum requirement of hours in each area they are looking for, or work on each requirement one at a time. Don't set yourself up for failure, grades should always always always be first I can't stress that enough. As for the leadership they are looking for maybe the club you are in has positions and you could apply for one and hold the title for a period of time. Don't overthink it, you have a good chance of being a nurse but don't kill those chances by not focusing more on the academic aspect!
