  1. Thanks for the excellent advise on getting an international driving licence. Went to the post office today with my driving licence, photo, passport and £5.50 and got one. Read on many sites that should have as some insurance companies won't insure you as a permanent resident without if you haven't had a chance to take your test. As each state is different and allows a different amount of time for a permanent resident to get the drivers licence I'd rather have it as I am sure once we get there there will be lots of other things to sort out. thanks Tiggerlover
  2. Thanks to all for the support, spoke to agency and informed them that got approval as had my reference number from agency to check myself (thanks OG) they confirmed that approval is through (via US office computer) but said that she would contact me in 5-10 days once formal approval (in the form of a letter from USCIS to agency) arrives as this is the way that they normally do. So for all those still waiting I am sure you will hear some good news then. Colette
  3. Hi also OGP nurse, also found out about Rn.com courses after NCLEX when I thought the studying was over but they are short courses that you do at your own pace and the tests are on the computer. Don't panic if you don't pass any you just do them till you do. They are actually quite good courses and fairly easy, so please do not worry about them. Are you waiting for your I140? or have you already got?. Best of luck and enjoy your holiday Colette
  4. Thanks for the reply, I suppose I will just have to wait as OGP are unwilling to give out the number. Hope all goes well for you and congrats on getting I140.
  5. What agency are you with? I'm with OGP who use Vermont for processing and my I140 receipt date was 2 August 2005 (passed NCLEX June). Does anybody know how I can check on USCIS site as OGP won't give out numbers ? Thanks
  6. Technically we are suppose to resuscitate 24 weekers plus, however if the baby is less than 24 weeks and has a heart rate at all then it will to intubated etc regardless of either gestational age or weight. In my experience the poor baby doesn't survive but like previous posts it depends on the Doctor at the time. Some are unable to let the baby go although clearly it is in the baby's best interest. Somes Doctors feel by keeping the baby alive for a while it gives the parents time to come to terms with it. I personally feel a baby with a very poor outcome and quality of life should be allowed to go, cuddled by the parents or nurses if the parents don't want to hold them.
  7. Harrow. I work in NICU and you?
  8. Have lost your numbers, if you email me you work no I will call you or if you can phone me.
  9. I feel exactly the same. Also got offered Louisana which I also turned down. What part of the UK are you in?
  10. I just wish I had some idea, they are very worried about giving out information (OGP) its like getting blood from a stone. They told me I didn't need to know which service centre they use as they are sorting it out - its almost as if you shouldn't ask! Can I ask do you have a placement yet? Colette
  11. HI Kay (Madwife) Just the one, are you a home? I am off tonight if you feel like a chat. Colette
  12. yes Kay, hope trip went well Colette x
  13. I am with OGP who refused to state which service centre they use 'because it causes problems'. Passed NCLEX in June and was told originally I140 takes approximately 3-4 months, then told would hear nothing till November at the earliest Anybody know how long it takes from the time they received the I140papers? Did find out that they have a receipt date of 02 August 05, but refuse to state the service centre. BON is New Mexico and OGP are based in Savannah, GA so thought that Texas would be the services centre and was pleased to see currently processing with receipt dates before 03 August 05, but then somebody suggested it might be Vermont. Any ideas? It would be good to have some idea of a timeline. Thanks
  14. Passed NCLEX in June and am awaiting I140 but heard nothing. I am also with OGP and requested to go to Florida, which seems to really annoy them. Wanted Florida as my husband has contacts there for setting him up for work They have mentioned Arizona, which isn't a place on our list. Then told me to work out other places instead to go to. Gave them my list which includes Corpus Christi Texas, Savannah Georgia, Charleston and Rock Hill South Carolina and North Carolina. They then came back and said Texas is unlikely as is Georgia. Didn't mentin South or North Carolina at all. They said what about Arizona?? Florida definately not! They also said I had limited my market because of my speciality! I am an Neonatal intensive care nurse. I read that a facility in Orlando was opening a new hospital next year with a 110 bed NICU and OGP deal with them so asked if this was a possibility? Which they ignored! The only thing I got was an offer of an interview for a hospital in Louisana, which had way, way above average crime rate etc. So its just a waiting game. Other girls were I work have got jobs in the US with another agency in California to start next year and haven't even done there NCLEX yet. Wish I knew were I was going and it would be somewhere that I wanted to be as we want to be settled.
  15. Hi FNPhopeful, now it sounds like you are getting very wound up by her, which is completely understandable, and probably hear yourself reprimanding her all the time. Why not turn things around by asking her to help you tidy up rather than telling her to do things, or make a game of it. For children any attention is good so if you try to give her lots of positive attention even if she is just being 'normal' and try as much to give her very little or no attention when playing up or being naughty. Soon she will realise that she will get more attention for being good before you know it she want to help you all the time. Also everybody has busy lifes these days but try and spend 5 minutes yes just 5 minutes of competely undisturbed time with her. No phone calls/doing other things/talking to other people just your completely undivided attention for her to play a game, do a puzzle, watch a program and so on she will enjoy this and you will feel happier to instead of feeling like she will just have memories of being told off all the time. Remember she loves you and just wants your attention anyway she can get it and what she is doing is working. Hope this helps : :)
  16. Dear Rachel like the others said try not to beat yourself up over this. You are a good nurse and this has shown how passionate you are about your work and giving good patient care. I should think that somewhere in your boss's career and your preceptors career they have felt if not done the same. This experience will ensure you are compassionate with the new nurses and indeed the patients and their families that you meet within your career, and one day you maybe the boss/preceptor yourself. It's the experiences in life - good or bad that make you the person you are and allow you to be kind and compassionate to others you meet. Take care.
