Alright, so here's the question/deal. Yesterday I decided to take it upon myself to email my agency (recuriter) and asked her if she knew if they were hiring within the company as a recuriter as I am really in need of a stable permanent full time job. I really didn't think she would actually of answered me back, and she said that yes that they actually were looking for a recuriter/staffing manager and then asked me if I knew of any LPNs/RNs to bring on board - of course I told her no, but am still interested in the position and that I didn't mind sharing the on-call status with her (seven days on and seven days off of being on-call). She told me in the next email, that she would call me today, and that the position has been posted for some time now and they are doing some interviewing but that she would call me. My question is: DO YOU GUYS THINK I WOULD HAVE A CHANCE?? I would so love that opportunity to work in that aspect, and even though I would do that I would still be interested in being an LPN on the side with them in addition to that job. I'm sitting here hoping she calls me, and I have been analyzing the emails she sent me to see if she meant that I had a chance or not. She's already met with me, and she is the general manager of the agency by the way, not sure if that matters. Sorry this is so long, but wanted to tell you the full story so I could get an honest answer! Maybe I have an edge because I'm an LPN??

Thanks, and I asked her and she told me everything - i pick up my name tag and time cards tomorrow - I make 24/per hour during the week, and 25/per hour on weekends. I also have a interview on Tuesday for a full time position m-f - so if i get that job i will still work for agency on weekends for exta cash.

Hi, I recently discovered that I as an LPN could in fact work in this aspect of nursing and have since became very interested. My question is this, where can I go online to get the training/certification for MDS work? I have googled it and I have only come acroos once site where you can either attend a live seminar for 2 days or take the same seminar and veiw it online - but am thinking there is more to it then just watching something on the computer. I am wondering if anyone knows of anything else that I can look up to get this training/certification? I will not be doing it right now - but will once I find out how much it costs me so I can save up. Thank you, and I'm in Wisconsin - not sure if that matters much. LOL, I love that. Well I finished up all my stuff that needed to get done for the agency, tomorrow I go get my tb test read and have them fax her the results. Actually they already called me this morning for a day shift - but I didn't hear the phone and she said that she just thought maybe if I would have taken it she would have allowed me to go, but it probably wouldn't have been a good idea since she didn't have my tb results in her hands yet. Anyways, she is sending out my resume to her contacts - and I told her when I am available and she said we would touch base further this afternoon - I'm excited and bummed because I would have taken that assignment this morning. She wanted to know for a month my availablity because she said most of her contacts look for someone for a month or so - she said they can have me booked for 30 days which is nice since I'll know what's going on. I just had a thought and will ask her later but if you guys know - do we get name tags or something?!?!

I just got back from my interview. And yes it a lot of paperwork and I have to take some online skills tests and go for a TB and drug test. She said that they are pretty desperate for LPN's right now and said that if I get everything in order by the end of the week she can have me starting rather quickly. I do understand that I am not gaunteed shifts and I'm going to be going with another agency if this happens, I'm also looking for permanent placement still. Thank you

So I was supposed to have my interview with this agency last friday, but I had a flat tire when I was gonna leave, called them and now I have the interview today at 1pm - I'm nervous though because I really need a job and to start working. I have been having such a hard time getting another job - not that much all of a sudden out there for me. It's with Ally Staffing and I hope that it goes well. I really hope I can start working or something by the end of this week and I don't want my desperation to get the better of me and go with this agency just because I need a job. How can I fool them into thinking that I am not as desperate as I actually am, I don't want them to promise me the world just so I work for them and then it sucks or I never get a shift?

Wow - Okay I just found this thread and hoping that someone is still checking. I was looking at all the links on the first page about all the different certifications that an LPN can get. I'm interested in L&D, but don't have enough money or time to go back to get my RN and then move on from there - so I was thinking about getting certification about L&D - now does this give me an edge on getting a job in L&D either at a hospital or OB clinic even though I have no experience. If I do one or some of these certifications I'd like to choose the ones that would help me out getting a job that I love. I also saw the breastfeeding one and would like to that one in conjunction with the L&D. Just wondering how much this would affect me getting a job even though I haven't been able to get into that area to work.

A tough time finding LPN positions in Wisconsin (Milwaukee area). I am having such a hard time finding any available ones, the only ones that I am finding are way out by Madison - making me think I may either have to drive like 2 hours each way each day or relocate there......I just got turned down by a facility that I was sure I was gonna get the job. I have no clue what other facilites are there - maybe some could list some ideas for me so I can apply. I have 2 years experience and blah - nothing.:angryfire

I'm in Wisconsin and have been reading all the threads I can about agency nursing. I'm having problems finding staff nursing positions where I am for LPN's for whatever reason and currently am out of a job, and in need of having a job soon. I had my resume up on various sites and Ally Staffing Partners called me and I have an interview with them tomorrow afternoon. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of them or worked for them (even if it's not in Wisconsin). I have seen Maxium's name come up a few times, but here in Wisconsin they haven't really gotten good responses (or so I have heard), however I do think it depends on the person's wants and needs. So far they told me that they would offer a range between $25-$50/hr (but this wage also includes RN's, which I am not). The lady I talked to said we will go into what agency nursing is and what I can expect from them. I'm hoping this is a good sign and this means they are going to be detailed. Any advice, suggestions, stories?

Okay - so I think I've found my knack! I hope that I'm have at least. I have decided, with much debate, to start looking into temp agencies for full time work working pool LPN....I have an interview with Top Tech Temporaries Inc. on Friday morning. They said that they will talk with about what pool nursing is like and what I can expect - of course they say to bring in current CPR card (which I will renew tomorrow), TB skin test (which I will ask current job for a copy of), and my driver's license and nursing license - anyways my point to this posting was this: I've spent the last few hours on here looking at this forum and absorbing as much information (the good, the bad, the ugly) about agency nursing, and I have seen lots of agency names thrown around but I have not seen anyone mention they went through Top Techs Temporaires Inc - I'm not sure if this agency is specific for Wisconsin but I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this specific place. Ahhh, I see. So I suppose not sooooo terrible. I'm gonna think about it some more, discuss this with my family, and go from there. I need to find out though where it says I'm a nursing student. I'm an LPN and have been one for one year now...probably need to change my profile I suppose. Thank you all for your support and quick replies - I've got a ton to think about and talk with the family about. EC at this moment seems the better choice right now. So honestly EC is actually the better buy if your speaking solely in money value. I also looked at their website and it's so much more straight forward than other sites I've looked at. I don't care if I get my BSN right at this moment, I just wanna get my RN so I can move forward in my career. I'm so ready to apply to EC....lol. I understand about the whole payment schedule thing and they seem more apt to help with their choices of payment plans - which I really like. I'm sure once I get into studying for the CPNE it won't seem so scary, besides I have all of you fine people/nurses out there to help calm me down..lol. I noticed it speaks about taking exams and whatnot, which I'm assuming I have to pay out of pocket for right??? I'm also quite sure your gonna tell me it's like 200 bucks to take a test? EEEk. Okay, so now I have yet another question in mind. Even though through EC you have to take the big ole' CPNE test is that easier to get into rather than having to go through something like ISU's course. I am unsure if I have this right in my mind, but doesn't EC supply you with everything needed (at a cost) instead of having to make the decision to use a publishing company like TCN? Maybe I'm making this more confusing than anything - I am not thrilled that I would have to do something like the CPNE with EC, but if maybe it would less pricy then going with TCN/ISU's program I'd put up with it. I mean as long as you prepare yourself and study extremely hard, then you'll be alright. I know I'll be horrible, and probably fail it, but it's worth a try no? Annie2005

Alrighty. I actually need an answer here. I've been reading and reading and reading posts on here concerning TCN/ISU LPN to BSN program and I'm just super confused. I have been planning on going through with signing up for sure with TCN/ISU for the program because I just need to work full time right now and plan my wedding. However I DO NOT want to waste my money and add to my debt here! I understand that I am able to buy study guides off of ebay and what have you, but the thing that confuses me I guess is how do I go through with this program and not use TCN???? Do I call ISU directly and talk with them??? Aren't they just gonna tell me that I need to talk with a rep from TCN and sign up with them??? Someone also told me that TCN actually helps you out with money and that it's like 100 bucks a month??? Is that true?? Does that also include the guides? I know I should be asking this to a rep, however I fear I'd be given the run around and told many things to make me sign up with them. Also, if possible and I do have to call ISU to talk with them - can someone please leave me a phone number for them. When I do a search for them on the web I get thrown to the TCN page and I can't figure it out. I'd just like to know how do you get around TCN and still do the program all the way through. I doubt I have any courses I'd have to take because I have taken some RN classes at a college already. God this probably is so confusing to read, but please give me some answeres and clairfy for me how to take the tests and such without actually signing up with a publishing company. Annie2005

Okay. So I'm happy to find this thread. So things in my life suck right now. I thought that I didn't want to do nursing, but now I see I need to be in nursing. I am not doing good at a college and I think the whole reason I'm not doing good is because I have to know everything in one week for a test and I'm better if I have the stuff to read and then take my time to acutally study it and then take a test when I'm ready to. I've decided to try LPN to BSN program and ISU and The College Network. I was reading a bit about it and it sounds wonderful. I know that it has nothing to do with EC program, but my concern is that all day clinical - I've heard from other nurses about it and how hard it is, and that is the only thing that would keep me from doing this. Since ISU/The College Network has nothing to do with EC then does that mean we don't have to do that and instead do some local clinical work like it says...or am I missing something all together? What I can do anymore. I'm retaking Med/Surg class again (3rd time) and I feel like I'm gonna blow it again. I really want this, and can't believe that I can't pass this one freaking class. I think I can still do it though....we have had only 2 tests and have a long way to go. But my first two tests which were both 35pts each I got a 21 and a 25. (27pts is passing). I don't think I'm THAT far down with points, but I just don't know what I can do anymore. Am I studying wrong? I don't read the chapters, I follow her notes and fill them out as I read (so I skim) and write lots of notes out. I need some pointers!!!! I feel like I'm drowning! Sorry for this stupid post, but I needed to get it out of me with people around who can understand

HORRAY!!! They decided to meet early and the granted my request to come back to the RN program and re-take just that one class! I'm so excited! And because they were so early with their decision I am able to register (did that today) and take it starting THIS MONTH (1-22-07)!! I also got a new job and started that too! Got to work this weekend, but it's still orientation...fun fun. I'm so excited things are going so well for me right now!!! Annie2005

Just found out in the beginning of this week that I was accepted back into the nursing program at MATC (in Milwaukee, Wisconsin).....dropped out because of stuff going on. So this spring (just registered today) I'll be taking Health Alterations 1 and that's all. That's the only class I didn't finish in semester 3 of the RN program. Then next semester will be a full one! I'm just taking one semester at a time though. I'm so excited, and WILL not screw this up for me!!!! I wanna finish and get that RN license. Annie2005

I'm excited. I've actually been considering going through an online college to finish up my nursing (getting my RN), because MATC and I have not been great. I failed my Med/Surg class in the RN program (2nd time taking it), and submitted all the forms and a letter to re-take the class so I can finish up. After not hearing from them for a few months I figured they lost my information or they decided not to allow me to retake the class. However I got a email from the Dean of Nursing and she said that my stuff was sent over to the Committee but they will not be having a meeting until Janurary 16th. So I hope to find out what they decide not to long after that date. Cross your fingers for me that they let me retake it - because if they do I just have that one class, then one last semester and then I'm done! I'll graduate and then take my NCLEX-RN. Oh I hope they allow me to retake the class, it just sucks that I have to wait that long, but I guess it's my fault. Annie2005

But the college network called me and I decided I would answer the phone. I did and listened and answered some questions, but then I found myself making an appointment for next week Friday at 9am to have an advisor come over to go over the program with me. The one question that I wished I would have asked, but didn't, was if she comes over to talk about the program with me am I obligated to sign a contract. I would hope not, but you never know. I at least made it when my fiance wouldn't be around because he's so against me going back right now, but hoping with some finacial help and my parents helping as well I could start now. I just needed to vent, and hoping I didn't make a mistake. I know I can cancel this appointment, but now I find myself wondering about it and almost excited to find out. Annie2005

I've read through almost every single posts on here concerning the college network and ISU. I wanted to do the LPN to BSN program that the college network/ISU offers. I've seen the outline of what I need to take, and it says nothing about a CPNE, rather I do clinical hours. I'm assuming that you can either go through EC or ISU?! They say on the college networks website that they are partners with ISU and once you finish up some things they help get you enrolled in ISU? Am I reading this wrong - I'd like to try to avoid the CPNE but I have a feeling that I won't be able to do that....AND I want to go right for the BSN. Thanks for any help. Annie2005

Just so people are aware on here, I have since decided to stick it out at work. I have printed out applications and my resume to send tonight and tomorrow to some prospects for a new job. I honestly did not realize that as an LPN we can pass out narcotics, I thought during my schooling we were told that we were not supposed to be doing so. As for knowing that assisted living facilites are stable, I did know that going into it, and wanted to make some ground and gain confidence as a new nurse in the feild, however I was promised that within a few months i would be given more responsiblies and I am still awaiting for that to happen. On top of all of this, my job has since let me know that they may be cutting an LPN out completely because the workoad isn't there for an extra nurse. Maybe that is scaring me, but like I mentioned above, I will be looking for another job, and like i said before I have found a few prospects that I will be looking into. Eric, I realize that and it's not even the people that I care too much about. I just cant see why I'm needed there at all. Everyday I've been going into work my RN sees me and tells me she's not sure what I'm gonna be doing since there's no work.........much of the time I'm not working......I get sent home sometimes because there isn't anything for me to do. This is the major reason I don't understand what the difference is between me quitting now or in 2 weeks. In 2 weeks lately I'm lucky if I work 4 days........and normally I'm supposed to work 4 days a week. Annie2005

Okay, I need some advice. I an LPN (will be finishing up school soon to get RN), and have been working at an Assisted Living facitlity for about 1 year. I hate this job. At first it was a good job because I was just starting out, however nothing has changed. I work very part time for only 6 hours the days I work, and never have work to do. I'm doing drsg changes, a couple of shots when needed once a month, and some paperwork. Also I am doing things that I think an LPN shouldn't be doing like passing out narcotics each night. The caregivers there are all very childish and pretty much keep telling others that I'm not working (which is true since have the time I have nothing to do). My question is, is this job worth it anymore? I want to, and have been looking at other options, but I can't bear to continue working there another day. I'm supposed to go into work today at 3pm and I just dont want to. I dread nursing, when this is a career that I love. I know I should do the whole 2 week notice thing, but like I said I just can't bear this job for one more day than I have to. I need to find something where things may be different each day, there will be work to do, and I'll actually be putting my skills to good use. I'm honestly thinking of no call no show (which is so unlike me). Please I need some advice. Thanks, and sorry it's a long post, Annie2005
