New BSN With 4 years School Nurse Experience as ADN - Can't Land a Hospital Job
Try different tactics. I had applied online to various hospitals and it seemed like I was never going to get a call back. I decided to call one of the hospital's HR department and they forwarded my message to the person who had posted the position on the website and I got a callback for an interview the next day. Sometimes you will have the opposite situation where they will just direct you to the website again, but it's worth a shot to call them about the position. Sometimes they think you aren't really serious until you call. It depends on the place.

2013 Grad - Still can't get acute care job
This is a similar situation to what I see happening to many Associate Degree grads in Chicago. One thing you may wish to consider is to find small neighborhood hospitals that aren't part of a large conglomerate and aren't even bothering to seek magnet status. There are small hospitals of this nature in Chicago and they seem to hire many graduates from my community college program who might otherwise be unable to find work at larger healthcare systems. I've had one clinical at such a hospital and have personally seen many students from my ASN program get jobs there. Since many of these types of places have little to no chance of gaining magnet status, they are much more apt to hire non-experienced RNs without a Bachelors degree and will likely give you more hands on experience than you may get at a large University Hospital...etc.. which could be valuable in a first position.

Night Shift Woes...When Do You Sleep On Your Days Off????
oh and just today I read this: Use of Transdermal Melatonin Delivery to Improve Sleep Maintenance during Daytime which makes me think I'm going to seriously consider experimenting with a melatonin patch as opposed to the pill when I next work midnights. I've found them on amazon.

Night Shift Woes...When Do You Sleep On Your Days Off????
I'm a student nurse right now, but I've worked midnights for over 5 years in various jobs and left to my own devices I often end up being nocturnal (perhaps because of this work history). One thing you really have to do is take melatonin because if you are working midnights your body will produce minimal amounts of it leading to higher cortisol levels and possibly all the bad that goes along with that such as inflammation and weight gain. I also found that sticking to the schedule was the best bet. When I wasn't I was always very tired and miserable even in my 20's. Of course paying bills, family, the post office and the rest of the world work on the day schedule so you will have to stray from time to time. The best way to cope is to continue the melatonin and to learn relaxation techniques to help you fall sleep when your schedule gets thrown off. I found on some days I had to stay up a day to put it back to regular time. I read some books on meditation and found that often when I tried to meditate I would fall asleep so that's basically what I would do to help fall asleep when my body didn't necessarily feel like it. Some things that helped me through the years on midnights: Black out curtains (no light whatsoever in my room) and even closing the shades and turning off the lights around the house leading up to bedtime. Earplugs if necessary chamomile...etc to settle down

What does your Head to Toe really consist of?
Thanks everybody! Great answers! I think I'm going to figure out a "script" for myself where I'm clustering multiple things together and practice it out on my wife in order to get the time down.

What does your Head to Toe really consist of?
I'm a 2nd semester nursing student on an acute care clinical rotation, I was told by my instructor to do a Head-to-toe assessment on a patient. This took about 15 minutes to do. The nurse I was with's only comments were that in real life you are not going to go through the whole thing on the floor. What would your priority list as far as head-to-toe assessment be in such a setting thoughts?

Thanks klone! That being said... I'm hoping to hear of examples where people have matriculated. Any takers?

RN to BSN ad WGU then onto NP program?
Below is my unanswered email to Western Governors University (I sent it to their representative a month ago). Has anyone on here got accepted into a Nurse Practicioner Program after getting their Bachelors degree from WGU? Dear Jessica, Recently a question has popped up regarding WGU, and I hoped you could possibly help me address it. Eventually after getting my BSN I'd like to become a Nurse Practitioner and I am considering my entire educational future when choosing a BSN program. I see strict GPA requirements for many Nurse Practitioner programs. My understanding of WGA's no GPA policy is that a letter is given that indicates that passing and graduating from WGU indicates at least at 3.0 equivalent. I'm assuming that most universities will treat this as a No GPA or a mere 3.0. This seems to me to be possibly problematic when many programs have stricter entrance requirements or may pass up a student who has a unique set of circumstances (like no GPA) for one that has a GPA. Do you have any data or examples of WGU students getting accepted in the NP programs?

91.3 on TEAS and 3.65 GPA here. I guess we can't register for the fall until we get that letter/email saying we are in or not?

Ugg! I didn't pay for another test. I just bugged ATI to give me another date and they did. I'm taking it this Thursday. Sorry that they are giving you the "that is not my job" runaround!!!! I'm glad to have some more time to solidify so many concepts in my mind. I have let so much of it fade.. lol.. It's good to review things.
