  1. First off, Congratulations! Being accepted into the nursing program is an accomplishment in and of itself Second, I think you are justified in being scared, but most things worth doing in life are kind of scary, especially in the beginning. As others have said, the real challenges are time management and learning to "think like a nurse." Invest in a good day planner and NCLEX study guide. Those two items are truly invaluable in nursing school! Truth be told, you probably won't have much free time while you're in nursing school, but as you get the hang of it, things will improve. It will take time and dedication, but you can do it! I like to keep inspirational posters in my study area and that seems to help me stay on track. Also, study groups/ sessions are always helpful. I've been a huge procrastinator my whole life (I'm actually supposed to be working on a care plan right now ) so if I can succeed in the nursing program, so can you. Best of luck!
  2. I just started nursing school and I don't have a problem putting my all into it. What I do have a problem with is the fact that some of my instructors seem to be playing mental games with us, like intentionally trying to make us nervous or psych us out. Is this normal? Are they just trying to see if we can perform under pressure? They're giving me panic attacks, seriously!
  3. I'm starting downtown... sorry for the delay in response. I didn't notice the last 2 posts. Which campus are you going to, winner?
  4. Reminds me of a doctor I went to once. I was about 10 pounds overweight at the time and had gained approximately 35 pounds in the past few months prior to this visit. I was eating healthy and exercising every day. I mentioned my concerns about my weight gain to the doctor. He looked at me and said "You are overweight because you eat too much" without doing any kind of tests or knowing anything about my history or eating/ exercising habits. I came home in tears. Turns out I had undiagnosed hypothyroidism. I think some doctors believe that their level of education gives them a right to be a total a-hole!
  5. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. Every time I try to study, my husband says "AGAIN?" like it's something that I only have to do once. Then, as soon as I start studying, he begins talking incessantly. When I put my earplugs in he'll say, "You're ignoring me again!" Ughh, it is SO frustrating and very hard to get anything accomplished. To make matters worse, every time I open a book, my cat jumps up on top of the book and lays down. Then he just starts staring at me and purring and hugging me to get my attention. They both make me feel guilty for studying.
  6. Thank You for the info Esme! Looks like I may have to tweak the paper though, to relate more to nurse: patient ratios.
  7. I'm looking for some links that pertain to the actual laws on the federal and state levels regarding CNA: patient ratio in nursing homes. Ive been having trouble locating this info. Anyone know where I might find it? Thanks.
  8. I'm confused. We also have to take the HESI at at the end of each semester, so 4 in all. Is there like a HESI 1, HESI 2, HESI 3, and HESI 4? Or do you just take the same test at the end of each semester (this wouldn't make any sense)? When I look on the forum, there is only the "entrance hesi" and the "exit hesi." I don't think we take the "entrance hesi" since I've already had to take the PAX-RN to get into the program. Furthermore, if there are 4 seperate tests, are there 4 seperate study guides??
  9. Thanks for the info! I did get the results of my drug test back, but still waiting on the background check. Hopefully all is cleared by the due date (Nov 1st)
  10. Just like everyone else said, pitting is the way to test. Press your finger into their skin. Does the indenation stay or does the skin bounce back right away?
  11. but I succeeded in posoining my husband with halloween candy
  12. but the teenagers TP'd the entire city in one night
  13. How long does it generally take for the results from the background check and from the drug test? Anyone know? I realize that their site says 3-5 days for the drug test but what about the background check? And I'm getting conflicting information from their website, so it's really frustrating. Thanks in advance.
