Unfortunately there are tons of people who drive around with no license, no registration, or both. This makes the cost of car insurance very expensive for those who choose to get it. I pay 3x what I used to pay up north :-s

Pay in the area isn’t the greatest. I have 5 years of experience and was offered 32.32. Night differential was 5$. 1$ for working the weekend. 1% bonus annually for extra skills (precepting, holding a critical care certification, providing advanced therapies). Baycare mobile pool pays 45-50$ an hour but you have to be willing to move around every 3 months. I don’t know how much you can depend on always getting a next contract. One thing to keep in mind is that the area is expanding very fast. The cost of rents has skyrocketed over the last few years and car insurance is quite expensive. Some areas are downright scare to be living in. In my experience, the salaries don’t add up to how much it now costs to live here, and because of that, I didn’t end up staying.

Indeed, you would need to pass the French exam given by the OQLF in order to get your unrestricted RN license. You are eligible to work as a CEPI until you pass the exam, but you will earn less then as a full RN. Certain hospitals in Montreal cater more to the English community: the Jewish General, St Mary's, all of the MUHC... That being said, despite them being «*english*» institutions, you must still be able to communicate in French. It will be tough, but not impossible; where there's a will, there's a way. Why motivates to live in Montreal?

I worked as a nurse in Montreal for 4 years prior to moving to the US. I know of one person who lives on the south shore of Montreal and commutes to Plattsburgh for work. It's not ideal but it is possible. I would never recommend living on the island, of even worst on the north shore and commuting to Plattsburgh however. I guess it depends on your tolerance and motivation, but it is feasible. However, in order for you to ''live'' in Canada, you would need some sort of status. You cannot establish residency in Canada without a legal status. Are you married to your partner?

I actually endorsed MN into FL, which was very straightforward. I would look into getting licensed in Minnesota as a foreign graduate

It was quite a lengthy process (and it's still not over). I had FL and MN send in a license verification through Nursys, CGFNS send in my certified translated transcript (250$), TOEFL results, fingerprint cards, photo ID and a signature. The toughest part was to get my school to fill out the "breakdown of education" form... which they eventually did, but I'm not sure they filled it out correctly, and I'm not sure it'll satisfy the board.

Hi, I applied for a licensed by endorsement on February 12 2018. I have a valid FL license and wish to endorse it in CA. I am foreign educated, and sent in all the required documents. The board predicted 10-12 weeks of wait time to get to my file. On this day, they are processing applications that were received after I had applied, yet, my application has still not been reviewed. I e-mailed them twice (no answer), and called 17 times (can't get the line). I put in approximately 600$ into this, so it's kind of upsetting. Do any of you have any suggestions on how I can get things moving?

Add to that another 40$ for the school to fill out the course breakdown form. Potentially another 260$ for a certified translation of my course descriptions (if CA BRN asks for them). I'm at the 12-week mark, should be able to find out very soon.

Hi, I am also in the same situation. Did it work for you? Did it work for anyone? I paid for eDAS, Nurses verify, CA BRN endorsement application and had my TOEFL results sent in. 440$ spent and 3 months of waiting to find out.

Hi, I am a Canadian RN currently working and living in Florida. Unfortunately, without prior experience as an RN, your chances of securing a job offer in Florida are very minimal. Additionally, to make yourself truly marketable, you would need to have experience in nursing specialties that are more difficult to staff or that require longer (and more expensive) training. The visa you should be looking into is the TN Visa. Note that it is only available for Canadian citizens (permenant residents do not qualify). Private message me if you have any questions.

Only one solution; Get your CGFNS certificate, Apply for licensure by endorsement thru Minnesota BON, write the NCLEX (if you haven't done so already) and go work in Texas or Arizona. I can help.

Hi everyone, I've been recently offered a position with HonorHealth (Scottsdale campus) for FT Nights in the ICU. It's a 2-year contract with sign-on bonus and relocation assistance. I've only been to Phoenix once, so I'd like to know more about this system. I come from a unionized establishment. I would like to know how satisfied you are from working with HH. Any feedback is welcome, whether it be positive/negative. Additionally, as I am a young gay male nurse, I would like to know if this could pose a problem at this location. Hey there, I attended a job faire in Toronto 2 weeks ago which had recruiters from all over the US. The job market in South Florida, or most of Florida for that matter, is NOT good. There were only a handful of employers for Florida. Most of them were for the Orlando area. And as many people say, the pay is NOT good, and the working conditions are supposedly terrible. Hi! I am wondering if anyone here has been hired through the Transcultural Assimilation Program at the Florida Hospital in Orlando? It is an 8-week orientation program meant for nurses who have been educated outside of the US. It comes with a 2-year work agreement. If so, how would you rate your experience with this program and FH? I will be interviewed in the next month for this opportunity. Additionally, I would like to know if it would pose a problem for a young gay male to work for FH. My understanding is that they are owned and operated by a religious group (Seventh Day Adventist). Hi, Yes we do have Google up here. We also have many other things, Starbucks and McDonalds, to only name a few... As Argo noted, I was running searches with keywords "agency", "travel", etc.. The only hit I was getting back was with CompHealth. Now I learnt that "locum" is the proper term to be used. Thank you so much! NedRN; I agree with you. The hardest part will be SSN and immigration. On that note, I was informed that it would be easier to simply start with a 13-week RN contract through an agency. Once the travel assignment complete, and with TN visa and SSN in hand, apply to a locum NP assignment. If I get the job, simply request a TN visa transfer

From my research, I found that most agencies recruit for RNs only, not NP. I haven't found an agency that'll work with NPs yet.

Hey ya'll, We are two Canadian RNs who have passed the NCLEX and are licensed in Minnesota. We are almost done doing the VisaScreens. One of us has just finished an NP program through University of Toronto, and should be licensed by November. My question is the following: Are there any Agencies (or Hospitals perhaps) who would recruit a Canadian NP for an assignment in the US ? Thanks for your help
