San Diego Hospitals
Thanks RNmommy, no none specific, I am trying to decide which part of Calif. I want to move to. So I am checking that out here, trying to get some inside advice. I was interested in San Francisco, or at least looking in the area, and different towns, or the better climate area of San Diego. Just hoping someone can give me some insight? Thank you for replying, any info would help.....

Mercy General Hospital, Sacramento
Thanks for the reply, Since I have never been to that part of Calif. I was just wondering about the safe area to live in. No kids just my spouse and myself, We would rent either a house or a nice apt. Something not to far from the hosp. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Sounds like Mercy is a respected hosp. I have applied on line. Again thank you. Any areas there to stay away from? Thanks again.

Does California really need RN's

Does California really need RN's
As a Manager, if I had a qualified RN applying for a position on my unit. I would hire them, no matter what the budget was. Good RNs are hard to find and I would hire them regardless of the time of year.Keep in mind we did 12 hr shifts and self scheduling, it was not necessary for orientees to work the holidays. I, as a Manager, would schedule them off. But every state and hospital are different. But thanks for your insight....point well taken. and thank you.

Does California really need RN's
No I am a seasoned RN and specialized in Cardiology. I have never heard of hospitals not hiring around the holidays?? I was a manager and always needed help especially holiday season. Census was always high, due to flu season...nurses sick...etc..... But maybe California is different??? I have done travel nursing also and never heard of it. I am learning a lot and thank you for the info and if you have more info....send it my way. I have applied at San Fran General hospital???? Any info there would be appreciated....thanks again for your help. Candis

Does California really need RN's
From looking into the hosp. web sights, it appears that most dont have full time positions, and what they do have is very limited. I was looking in the San Fransico area, at the Sutter Hospitals. I have filled out the online application and applied for two part time positions because that is all that is listed. So can anyone help me to figure this out? Is the shortage not happening in San Fransico? Also did they do away with 12 hour shifts, with the new staffing ratios? I see alot of 8 hour shifts , and that is all. so can some one help me? Im confused.... also I am moving to the San Fransico area, but all the different areas are confusing to me also, its hard to know where to go, when you have never been there. Is there a better place to live, for instance the north bay vs the south bay etc. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, Im just waiting for a phone call from a nurse recruiter, I called Sutters hot line, but it does not give a phone number to the recruiter. Thanks to anyone who takes pity on me!!

Fresno, CA nurses: Are there many jobs in your area?
We live in Oklahoma and I graduated in Texas....go to the Texas Forum and read very carefully...scary things happening in that state. We thought about moving to Texas, but after reading that we are heading to California. Nurse patient ratios are awful ..pay is bad...and if you are not a very good girl you will be black balled from being hired from any hospital in Texas....it is called Group One....read carefully......good luck...

Does anyone know if the hosp. in the San Fran area have relocation allowances, or sign on bonus. I want to move to San Fran. but dont think i want a travel assignment, Ive done that in other states. The Sutter hosp. sounds interesting. Just inquiring, see what I can learn before I apply. Thank you.

resignation dilemma
I too live in an "at will state" I recently resigned my position as a charge nurse. I told my manager in writing , that I gave two weeks notice, but I also told her If I could quit tomorrow, I would. She called me the next day and asked me If I wanted to make my last day that day. I then called my HR department and spoke with the director, she told me yes, to stay rehireable, for a good work reference, I had to give two weeks notice, but I didnt have to fulfill that two weeks. So I quit, And I am rehireable. This is a large hospital. And I worked there for over 5 years. It was a terrible place to work. So I agree with the others, Go to your HR dept. and get the policies, and procedures first. Ask HR people. An "at will state," in the application when they hire you states," either party can terminate employment without reason or notice. " So legally you dont have to give two weeks. And neither do they.. stop listening to managers, she should know better than to threaten, but desperate times call for desperate measures I guess. She needs wrote up. I used to be a manager, so I do know some of the tricks. Dont worry, its up to HR if you ae rehireable or not, not the manager. Good luck to you,

Can anyone give advice on Denton hospitals?
Thank you for the info and after reading these post I am concerned about this thing called group one? As I am a very verbal nurse advocat and I do not play the political games. I do not think I would like to work in Texas so they can ruin my spotless career...with threats or they do not like you and it has nothing to do with your work ethics. Do you know from your friends and family regarding this group one in Denton hospitals? I see they are group one affiliates...Thanks for the help and from anyone that can give me insight to this matter...This is scary stuff that is happening in Texas.

Travel Contracts....
In speaking with my recruiter, she went over the contract on the phone, when receiving the actual contract plus the mountain of all other paper work, The contract seems to have added little goodies in it. The verbage is vague, There are mistakes in my application that they want me to sign with all the other papers all in all there are about 20 papers or more to sign., I feel like I am signing with the devil for my soul. Is this normal. I have traveled only with one other co. 5 years ago, and dont remember all of this. There are some things in this contract I dont agree with. Can a verbal agreement be broke for lack of disclosure on there part? Thanks.
