Possible Friction with Senior Psych Techs
Some times it's better to just let people who want to be in charge "be in charge" so the next time you have a combative patient who needs to be put in 4points make she the SPT is right there with you "guiding" you. I would ask him to show you how it's done lol I bet he/ she would cool their jets.

Public's lack of knowledge about what nursing actually is
A good way to go insane is to worry about others perception of you and or your chosen field. When I was a Cop I was always the go to guy when someone got a ticket or jury duty, I learned that just saying: "I'm (insert profession here) for 'X' amount of hours a day, when I'm off, I'm off, whatever questions you have can be googled, have a wonderful day. lol

How many of you guys cant find jobs?
Maybe it's a gender based form of affirmative action.....possibly lol but it does looks good when you have male nurses on your medical team. It doesnt mean that males are nessaserly better care givers but in my outside looking in experiances males have a Easier time (not always) handling the stress that comes with the field. Not to take anything away from female nurese because they have been holding the profession down for years!

Experience?
I guess it really depends on your location, here is MD the Hospital I worked at (security mind you) had a ton of new grad LPNs RNs BSNs CNAs. They also offered some of the highest rates for LPNS and CNAs I have ever seen, most were making over $19-20 with shift differentials. The RNs and BSNs were making well over $27-30 easy with shift differential. If you have the ability and the desire you may want to consider relocating, jobs are out there.

First Nursing Job!!
That's wonderful! You are a shining example of what hard work and diligence can accomplish. I wouldn't worry too much about negative people in the field, you just gotta ask yourself, if these people are saying it's so bad, why in the hell are they still in the field? There will always be negative people, but the bright side is that there will always be positive people as well. Keeping doing you.

DMU for those who want to be a Psych Nurse
I wish I could tell you that I understand what you're going through, but the truth is, no one will ever understand, everyone’s struggle is unique to them, but what I can do is attempt to relate. You know, life can be unfair at times but there is always a silver lining to every dark cloud. You have an insight into depression that not too many people have, there for you may be able to connect with a patient that struggles with a similar issue better then a nurse that does not have that firsthand experience with depression. If you believe you’re being discriminated against then that’s a different story, as being denied or not treated fairly due to a mental illness is highly illegal in all states.
