  1. Grats, seems we are going to be classmates. I got acceptance letter to GCC as well
  2. I was accepted into the nursing program last fall, but had an accident and had my leg amputated below the knee on the day when school was supposed to start. I reapplied for the fall of 2014 and got in. Yes, I am walking on the prosthetic, but I know I can do it. Good luck to all of us
  3. English is my second language as well, or fourth to be exact. I have finished all my preres with 4.0 GPA, so I know my English is sufficient for school. First thing first, English is number one priority. Take some Eng classes, most of the school has it as a prerequisite any way. Most of those classes are offered at night so you don't have to leave your job. It might take you a year or two to finish all the prerequisite and in the mean time I would apply for any support you can get for working mothers who is going to school.
  4. I had my amputation done on September 3, the day when I was supposed to start nursing school. I decided to take. A year off to recover and learn to walk on my prosthetic. Nursing school is saving my seat for next year as I had to withdraw for medical reason. I hope to hear from you some updates and see how you are doing.
  5. How are you doing? I am assuming you already had your amputation done and recovering. Hope all is well. I have my amputation scheduled for September 9th and the nursing school allowed me to attend the first semester using the wheel chair.
  6. Hi guys, I am starting the first year of the nursing school and I have to go for a below the knee amputation the second week of school. My doctor said that I will be in the hospital for 4-5 days, but can come back to school the second week post op in the wheelchair. The nursing school agreed that I could attend the school as long as I have the doctors permission to do so. I am sure it is gonna be hard. Have you had anybody in your class who managed to go through the school on crutches or in the wheel chair? It is probably going to be 4 or 5 month till I will be comfortable enough to walk on the prosthetic leg, so the first semester gonna be rough. I am not afraid for the academic piece of it as I have 4.0 GPA and really good memory, but I am really afraid of the clinical and how I am gonna do there. Any word of advice would be highly appreciated.
  7. I am in the similar boat. I had an accident in August of last year which left me with avascular necrosis of the talus. My ankle has been fused in February if this year, but there is a partial non union. My doctor says that I can walk on it for as long as I can tolerate the pain and the two options I have are another fusion with taking talus out or amputation. I am leaning toward amputation. The only thing I am in the third year of the nursing school. I will try to tolerate the pain to go through the nursing school and once I get my associate and Rn license I will have the amputation done while working on my BSN. If pain gets too much, then I will have to take a year off school to have the surgery done
  8. thank you, I am not letting it hold me back either that is why I never gave up on doing my prerequisites. What kind of shoes are you wearing? I got MBT and it is very comfortable with the fused ankle, but I feel a little bit wobbly in it. I still have 3 month till school start, so hopefully by that time I will be able to walk without limping too much :).
  9. Hi everybody. I have been in pretty bad accident almost 10 month ago and had open ankle fracture. I have been finishing my prerequisites from the wheel chair as I refused to give up my dream. In last 10 month I had 7 surgeries and the ankle fusion surgery was my last one. I am allowed to put partial weight on it now and things seems to be getting better. I am starting the nursing school in September. Did anybody manage to go through the nursing school with fused joints? What kind of shoes do you guys recommend?
