  1. I'm In chronics and have set hours. We have patients off the machine by a specific time daily. Going to dialysis at one of the "Big two" has been my smartest move as an RN. Good luck!
  2. I say honesty is the best policy. It's unfortunate that you were terminated but I wold not suggest lying to gain new employment. If they found out, you could really cause yourself a snowball effect. That's just my opinion. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.
  3. Lewiston Maine. New grad RN oncology inpatient unit in large hospital- all new grads receive same pay. $23.03 base rate, $1.25 differential from 3-11pm and $3.75 from 11pm-7am. $1.00 differential weekends. We own a 2-3 bedroom home with a small barn on private 3 acres of land. Our home purchase price $180,000 20 minutes from Lewiston.
  4. congratulations! Prepare when you receive your syllabus, take time for you while you can. You can do it
  5. I forgot to mention her name badge- that's how I knew- she was a CNA.
  6. I say EXTRA because with all of the hard work and focusing on getting into NS, going to NS, etc. that can be ENOUGH for goals. I'm currently trying my hardest to lose some WEIGHT before clinical! I stopped working a couple of weeks ago and should be able to squeeze in some exercise time between classes and kiddos this summer. Anyone else?!
  7. Great post! I am starting my program Sept 3rd and I really want to work for the hospital in which I am going to Nursing School through. They only hire a "Couple at top of the class" so if my grades aren't there I wont get a chance. Volunteering might be a good route too.. Thanks!
  8. I'm sorry that you're not being treating fairly. I ask myself many times how someone who is so mean can be in this profession--- even tonight-- I stopped at good old Wal-Mart to grab some things for my sons Birthday and there was a lady walking around in scrubs with a young kiddo in her cart and what I learned to be her mother with her. I crossed paths with her several times in the store and I could not BELIEVE the way she was talking to her daughter, and her mother! She was cursing, and just plain nasty.. I tried to tell myself "Maybe she's just stressed out..just got out of work or something" only to overhear her say to her mom "I don't have time for this S-word, I have to go to work" and proceed to scream at her daughter! If this is how she treats her child and own mother how is she treating the people she is supposed to be CARING FOR?!
  9. That would be considered a medication error as far as I'm concerned. I've been a CRMA passing meds for several years and I do know that someone in my facility did the same thing and was written up for it... It was for a fever and they gave it for a headache- even wrote down it was for a headache but a team lead overheard the conversation.
  10. I've been taking pre-requistes for the past 2 years. I applied into the only program I've ever had interest in and got in first try thankfully-- It can be a very long process. My advice to you would be: 1. If this is your dream, don't give up! I've seen so many people apply and not get in, then say "Maybe it's not for me" and move on to some other career they are not passionate about. 2. If you haven't gotten into a program and have yet to take your pre-requisites, try to take them or at least most of them first. I haven't started my program yet but honestly from all sources I have heard from it sounds pretty intense. At least if you're only taking nursing classes you can focus on only that. 3. Stay calm! I am a person with extreme test anxiety! I have found numerous ways to cope and try and stay focused. And last but not least- don't beat yourself up too much! Everyone wants to exit a course with an 'A' but sometimes it just isn't realistic. I've passed some things with a B- and beat myself up pretty badly over that.. But I made it into a program. Best of luck to you in your endeavors!!
  11. Thanks everyone! I am just feeling frustrated with it because I've been doing well in Lecture (Where all the tests have been so far) and then I got a 72 on an exam... No lab exams yet.. We too are doing identifying an "Unknown" I just wish it was over already... I hope I don't turn out to be one of "Those" Nursing students.. :-( My dream has been nursing for OH-SO LONG! I finally start my program Sept 3rd.
  12. Just saying. I find it difficult especially right now were learning about recombinant DNA eek. I start nursing school in September this is my last "per-requisite". Am I doomed??
  13. I have orientation day on June 19th and start classes on Sept 2nd! :-)
