Starting NS in January!
I am also starting in January, the 6th to be exact! I am excited as well...of course nervous too. It's kind of crazy that we are starting right after Christmas. I have a family, so the budget thing has been an interesting challenge this time of year...but I am ready! I wish ALL of us just starting (as well as all of those who are going into their next semester) the best of luck!!!!

No longer a PRE nursing student!!!!
Oh yes... I have done my research lol... I am sure that the next 2 years will be just chaos, but I know it is worth every minute. My husband is very supportive, and my daughter is now 10 years old, and just as excited. This is for the betterment of our family, and they know it.... but I know it will NOT be easy!! It will definitely be worth it though :)

I was accepted!!!!!!!!
I got my letter in the mail a couple of days ago, actually on my daughter's 10th birthday, which was pretty darn cool! I was a nervous wreck and couldn't open it right away. I was shaking and my heart was pounding out of my chest. Finally, I couldn't stare at it or wait any longer. There was no one in my house, but I HAD to open it! I saw those magic words "This letter is to congratulate you on your acceptance into the nursing program" and I about fell out of my chair! I am soooo excited, and soooo nervous!!! I can't wait to start this process but it is such a big deal and scary!! I will be seeing many of you on here I am sure!

Which stethoscope should I buy as a Nursing student?
I plan to get a Littman classic 2... On medisave.com they do the engraving for free and shipping is also free. The one I am eyeing is around $84 bucks. I will keep it very close LOL but with my name engraved on it, and I will probably buy a pin for it too, I can't imagine someone wanting to steal it. On a completely different note -- I am staring in January as well... where are you guys going to school?? I am really excited to meet some of my new nursing school friends, but orientation isn't until December

Waiting to set up the interview!
I'm sorry if this comes up weird as my computer went haywire and I am on my phone... I'm glad you are more prepared than I was! I will most definitely be on here and super excited if I get accepted in November :) Don't panic...I'm sure you'll do just fine!

Waiting to set up the interview!
Congrats on your test scores! I did my interview a while back...I was just like you, I had NO idea what to expect. All they told us was to dress like it was a job interview (which I highly recommend). I honestly thought it was going to be kind of laid back...not the case. I met with the director of the program! I was so not prepared for this. She was pretty nice, but also very firm. She asked me things like "detail a time when communication broke down and what you did to restore it" and asked me if I was better in a team setting or working alone... more random questions like the first one. I had to just wing it! I didn't have any answers thought up for the questions so I tried my best to come up with something meaningful, and quickly but without saying "um" or "I don't know". I did get her to laugh a couple of times, so I hope that is good! Also, after they tell you about the program and about their selves, they will most likely ask you if you have any questions for them. My advice is to come up and at least one question about the program AND one personal question for the interviewer. I will find out if I get accepted in November...the wait is excruciating! Good luck to you guys!!!

Eager & Waiting-Anyone else waiting for acceptance?
Yep! I just finished my last pre-req this month and now I have to wait until November to find out if I make it. I also have never heard of an HOAE test...what is that? The school I have applied to uses the Kaplan test along with an interview, hand written writing sample, and of course grades from pre-reqs to choose only 30 of the applicants. STRESSFUL!! Good luck to you!

Anatomy & Physiology I/II Summer 2013
Time for me to post on this thread! I just found out that I passed my 10 week condensed A&P 1 & 2 online class with an A!!!! I am Ecstatic! It was a tough class for sure, and I thought I was going to be bumped to a B if I didn't ace the final...but I pulled out the A! That means that I have all A's in my pre-reqs... something I can truly say that I have never experienced in my school career. It sure does feel good!

Pre A&P I study guide / cards?
I just started A&P 1 and 2.... I bought a ton of stuff to try to prepare, but honestly the best tool that I have found happens to be free. Look on youtube for crash cart biology. It is hands down the best tool I have used in my studies of A&P thus far. They make it fun and so much more simple than any book. If you just type it into the search it will come up. My advise would be to watch every episode regarding chemistry and cellular function first, as that is what you will be learning first. Watch them several times... believe me it helps! When you get into skeletal, and muscular, and so on they will also help! At least they did for me as a visual learner.... I hope you do great!!!

Those who have taken the Kaplan...what were your scores??
I have taken the Kaplan twice. I have read many different things about what scores are common, and what scores are good/bad. I am just curious about what other people scored, and if they were told it was good... or bad. My first overall was 68% which I felt awful about. I didn't score high enough in the math section to take the A&P course that my school provides, so I took the Kaplan again. My second overall was a much improved 83%, but I still feel like that's a (B) in normal standards, and a © at most nursing schools. I am not sure if it is good enough... I would like some feedback please!! :)

The waiting period
I feel your pain! I have applied, but I am also taking an online condensed A&P 1 and 2 class through the school that I applied to which just started this week. That is keeping my mind off the fact that I won't find out if I make it in until NOVEMBER! It is good though, because I have time to get this last pre-req done, as well as all of the other little stuff like background check/drug test and CPR, which I still have to do as well. It also is giving me motivation to do my absolute best in this class this summer. I really want to pull an A since I have an A in all of the other pre-reqs that this school requires. I am hoping that if I can get a good grade in this class that is hosted by the school I am hoping to attend, that it will help my chances of being accepted. This particular school only accepts 30 people for each start date, so it is incredibly competitive...which is nerve racking! Anyway...BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!!!

Who taking A&P this summer?
YES I am!! I am taking a condensed A&P1 & 2 class online this summer, all in ten weeks...EEEEKKK! I just started yesterday and I am already overwhelmed... but I think its just me trying to get ahead. The whole molecular cell process is just kind of boring to me. I know it is important, but I can't wait to get on with bones and muscles and all of the actual systems!

Anyone taken the Kaplan
I have taken the Kaplan... ugh twice. The first time I used the study guide they provided (for 20 bucks!) and honestly it scared the crap out of me...but this test is NOT that hard. I bombed math the first time because I was studying all the stuff I didn't need. The first person to post is right, math is all fractions, decimals, a couple word problems, and conversions. Fairly simple stuff if you brush up on it a bit. The school I am applying to does not count the science portion unless you have an LPN because it is somewhat geared towards A&P with a little background on nursing practice...but if the school you are applying to includes that in grading I would definitely brush up on it a bit. I can tell you that the science portion has three questions in Cardiovascular, two in Immune System, four in Neurology, one in Gastrointestinal, one in Hematological System, one in Homeostasis, one in Renal System, four in Respiratory, one in Sensory, and two in Fluid and Electrolytes. I wish I remembered the questions, but I literally just started my condensed A&P1 & 2 course...so I had NO idea what they were asking back when I took the test. With basic knowledge that I remembered from high school I managed a 50% in that section. The reading section is super basic...read a passage and answer questions about it... I scored 100% in that section the second time...the study guide is good for that one. Don't pay attention to the crazy word part on the study guide where they show a ton of "analogies". Actually you can completely throw out Chapter Five where they cover spelling and vocab...none of that is on the actual test. Believe me, the first time I was studying for it I studied that like crazy because I was so worried... but none of that is actually on there. All in all, the entire test is pretty simple...it is set up just like the standardized test in high school. I studied way too much the first time on all of the stuff in the study guide thinking that it was going to be some crazy hard test, but in reality it's not that bad. The second time I got my math up and ended up with an 83% overall (they combine all the sections without science and then average it at the school I am applying to). I have heard that most people average in the 60-70s. My first attempt was 71% so I think that knowing what is on the test in important. The study guide is intimidating! Like you, I tried to research it before I took it the first time, but there was almost no information out there! I hope this helps! Also, the test was the same both times that I took it, so I don't think it is a random test like they sometimes do. Let me know if you have any other questions! GOOD LUCK!!
