Step lpn mom
Laugh it off! Smh! Better yet, ask her why Kaplan didn't make her an RN if they're so prestigious ... Lol!! She will stop bugging you when she sees that she's not getting to you... But you can't let her get to u first;)

Experience?
I thought the same way when I was about to be a new grad (about LTC)... Typically, as an LPN you will get paid more in LTC and have a much easier time finding a job. I love my job in LTC and never thought I would. It's entirely different than when you're doing your dreaded clinicals!! Lol!! Some facilities will hire new grads and u will notice some employment ads that say things like "new grads welcome". These places like to train new nurses to do things "their way"... But however u get in... Take it!! Some people find their first job fast like I did & some struggle!! Good luck!!

How to overcome being "terminated" from previous job
If it was a recent job & you are going to state that they can call that employer for a reference, then that employer can say you were fired and why. However, if it was three jobs ago or even two & not relevant to nursing, I would either suggest leaving it off your résumé or just stating you left for a better opportunity ( which is true... Lol) if I were fired, I would consider anything a better opportunity!! Unless u give them permission to call HR, they have NO WAY of finding out & you have the right to learn from a mistake... Take it!!

Is it worth going to school for LPN (2014)?
It's WORTH it if you're interested in nursing at all!! When I was in school, I had no interest in getting my LPN or ever working in a nursing home! I had no interest. I intended to continue through & get my RN. Well, kids happened & I got my LPN as a "stepping stone", I work in a nursing home & I love it! My first job, I started at 18 an hour. Three years later & lots of experience later, I'm at 24 an hour.... More than my husband!!

Do you like being a LPN? :)
I love being an LPN!! We do the hands on nursing. RN's in most instances tend to do more paperwork than anything else. I work in a nursing home where I work so hard I sweat!! I have STNA's & they're working too... It's just BUSY!! But, my residents tell me how they appreciate me. I had one gentleman tell me "don't tell the other nurses, but you are the best thing this place has going for it!". I have another lady who knows my exact schedule because she counts the days till I get back!! To me, that's worth more than a paycheck... (Too bad it doesn't pay the bills) lol!! I'm happy doing what I do. I know LPN's count & I'm paid well. I don't need the letters after my name to please those people who don't realize we are intelligent also.

who has taken a pay cut, willingly
Thank you everyone sooooo much!! This was helpful!! I've been looking for a new position for a really long time to get out of the terrible one I'm in now. The place I'm at now... I could go on & on forever with the cons... The place that just offered me a position seems to be everything I'm looking for minus the pay I'm accustomed! I think the trade off will be worth it!! It's really about the patients anyway...:) love this site:)
