What have other nurses done that have freaked you out?
I work at a LTC and hav esome of the laziest CNA's a nurse could have yesterday was the night from Hell excuse me. for caring. First off i go into one of the tubers room, getting ready to administer his meds, and do his treatment. started to remove his pillows and noticed a runny liquid on his bottom. my first thought omg he has a bad case of diarrhea. not the case at all. my CNA was there with me thank GOD. The previous nurse(they are the only people allowed to handle tube feeders) spilled tube feeding in his clinitron bed about 200cc and just left it. did not try to clean it up.

What are your views and ideas on the current Medicare Issue?
It's very sad but I've noticed that Nurses at this site are very critical with there words. I'm not trying to say anyone is right or wrong. Whether its Medicare or Medicaid they are both funded by the federal governments so which ever one it is, my point is that elderly people are going to suffer unnecessarily. :rotfl:

Legality and Ethics of Terri's past nurses talking to the press
first off everyone is entitled to their personal opinion. number one her husband is her autorized party starting the day she got sick. her parents need to accept that. your right there is not legal document stating directly of her wishes to starve to death I admit that's a bit harsh. but her husband should know best of what she would want. I dont care what any of you people say no one wants to be in a vegetative stage for ten years and everyone fighting in courts day in and day out and she is never going to improve. a doctor was quoted saying that her brain activity has ceased so I'm not sure what that means to you but to me it means no adquate brain activity. bottom line her parents to let go. the point I was trying to make in reference to Medicare is that there is a bigger problem out here that needs the same amount of attention and protest.

Legality and Ethics of Terri's past nurses talking to the press
I am so tired of hearing about this Terry. I agree with the first respondent to speak about a present resident or former resident is just wrong wrong and people need to check them selves on being so willing to tell someone else's story. When I here about all the publicity this case has gotten it upset me because of the recent Medicare issue. There trying to stop Medicare for all and how many people will that effect and they wasting tax dollars voting on a woman's life who preauthorized herself to die if this ever happened. So I dont understand what all the hooplaa is all about. In my opinion I think she should be removed from the tube feeding, take a look at her quality of life her parents need to let go. I know its a very touchy and undecisive situation but we as nurses deal with death and sickness every day. I have said a prayer for this lady every since i first heard about her while I was still in nursing school. I mean if her parents really believe that one day she'll snap out of it with absolutly no brain activity that may need to be evaulated next.

Advice needed - Should he be fired?
I think he should have been fired yesterday. The first thing we learn in Nursing School is to be on time. Then he has poor documentation that's a number two no no. Girl, get rid of him and fast you can find many nurses that would love to take his place and further more follow their oath of nursing. How can he provide adequate patient care if he isn't at work or late. :angryfire

Do you think that nurses with criminal backgrounds should get a second chance?
I say yes because someone who made it through Nursing School should have a chance to put the mistakes made behind them and move on with their lives. Don't you agree? :uhoh21:

Background Checks
I was reading some other responses on this matter and someone brought a good point. we need to a background check on ourselves from an employers standpoint, because every BON is different in each state. first off you need to get:date, charge, sentence, and disposition certified by the courts. you can go to the highway patrol in your state and request a background on yourself for a small fee in my state its $5 for a search based off your name, date of birth and social. or you can pay $14. for a search based off Fingerprints but you have to provide the fingerprints. that way we'll have the same documents as the BON. :)

Background Checks
Yes, most definately! I'm going through the motions right now as we speak. I graduated from nursing school in December 2004 and I was told no news is good news by the school in reference to the application process. not true. all of my calssmates started getting their clearance to test and now have their licenses and I don't because I was never notified that the BON needed certified documents about my past convictions I informed the BON of the past previously, but I am required to send all certified dispositions and an individual statement of each account Who,why when and where and everything has to be notorized or sealed by the court. so do not believe the hype if you have a felony and have completed all the requirements start obtaining all your court documents, have them stamped w/state seal and keep them in your records until its time for you to apply the State Board your requesting the license from. Good Luck to you and keep your head up the past is the past. :)

Background Checks
as someone said in a previous reply the BON does two background checks. one is a state check with your SS#, name and birthdate the other is a FBI check based on your fingerprints. Your correct in saying that some things can't be seen by certain people requesting your information, but the BON is a government agency and they are allowed to view your complete arrest record. Any time that you have been arrested and your fingerprints were taken the record will show to the BON of nursing. So as long as your remember to tell the truth you should be ok. Just rember don't tell if they don't ask, because if they want to know they will definately ask. Good luck to you. :)
