  1. I had my chole while still in nursing school. I had it done on a friday and went back to clinicals the next monday. I had to wait until the clips were out before i could do any lifting. Good Luck!!
  2. Thanks alot to everyone, it seems I have alot more options that I thought I had. Thanks again!! Michaela
  3. What exactly does a phone triage nurse do? I want to thank everyone for their replies. Michaela
  4. Hey everyone, I am an RN and I am a recovering narcotic addict. I'm trying to consider what options I have when I go back to work. I was a good nurse but I feel like at least for awhile I need a position in some area of nursing that has limited narcotic access. I've always been a med surg and critical care nurse and i don't feel like I can go back to that so soon into my recovery. I want to be able to provide for my patients without constantly having "getting high" on my mind. I thought about psych nursing. Does anyone have any experience with that? Thanks for any suggestions. Michaela :stone
  5. I was just talking to my doctor last night about my future plans. I think when I go back to work I'll try some rehab or psychiatric hospitals. I love med surg but until I'm further along in my recovery I think I need to stay away from all the narcotics, maybe forever but I sure hope not. I miss working so bad but I've got to get my life cleaned up first and make sure I can stay clean. Thanks for the adivce. Michaela
  6. I have severe depression that seems to come on go, along with panic attacks and severe anxiety. How I dealt with this? I turned to drugs, the easy way out...right. I have put 4 years of school and my family in jeopardy. I am currently on medication which i am taking correctly, attending AA and NA. I hope this experience will help me be a better nurse. I have always worked in med surg but I am thinking of working in a rehab facility. I just want to help others that have been thru what I have and show them there is a way out. I have made some horrible mistakes but I consider it more of a stumble not a fall. Nursing is my calling, I just have to decide what area I can best help people in. Michaela
  7. I called my state BON today and they said it would be ok to mark NO because if a judge says I've payed my debt to the state then that's good enough. They said that in order to get a record expunged you have to meet certain orders by the court especially if they are drug charges and if they judge expunges it then that's same as saying I've meet all requirements for a fresh start. So I guess I have my answer. I didn't give them my name and they didn't ask. They acted like it was no big thing. What all agencies do I need to check with to be sure my name is cleared?? Thanks for all the replies.
  8. Thanks for all the great replies but could someone tell me how they could possibly find out about it if it is expunged. That basically means it doesn't exist. Like I said earlier everyone from my lawyer to the judge has said to mark no on the renewal app. I can't decide what to do.
  9. No one was violated. I never took anything from a hospital or from a patient. I can say i never sank that low. Thanks for the reply.
  10. I'm not working right now because I developed my problem and didn't feel like i could well if i was around narcotics. I've been a nurse for several years and everyone from detectives to lawyers to even the judge said that once it is expunged then the record doesn't exist as far as the public is concerned. That includes all nursing and medical boards and hospitals. Right now the arrest record does show up. I contacted the board of nursing in my state and they said they do their background checks with the help of the state bureau of investigation and public records is what they find. Once it's expunged it's no longer there for the public to see. I won't be applying for licensure I'll just be renewing, that's if I decide to anyway. Thanks for the replies.
  11. I already have my RN license but i am currently not working. I was wondering if anyone knows when you have a criminal record expunged does anything show up when the hospitals do a background check for employment? My lawyer says that the FBI will always be able to find out things about your past but after it is expunged it is removed from public view. Right now the only thing that shows up is my arrest record, I have to wait until my probation is over to have it expunged. Also, will it show up to the BON when I renew my license? Thanks for any help.
  12. I am so scared. I made a horrible mistake and need some advice. To make a long story short I became addicted to narcotics after injuring my back during a code. I got in so deep that I ended up getting in trouble with the law. Since this is my first offense my lawyer says i will just get a year's probation which I will have to serve before i can have my record expunged. I am not currently working and do not plan on applying until my probation is over. I am now clean, registered with the tennessee peer assistance program and attending narcotics anonymous meetings 3 times a week. My question is will the board of nursing find out automatically or will it have to be reported. Since i didn't get in trouble on the job it won't be reported my an employer. The BON (didn't give them my name) said when i renew I will have to check that I have been convicted of a felony and then it will be investigated but if i don't renew until my record is expunged I can mark no. Any advice?? Thanks alot.
