  1. So when did being over 40 equate to being technologically illiterate or incapable of reading basic social cues? I must have missed the memo.
  2. I've lost 20 pounds by tracking my calories (and increasing exercise) on My Fitness Pal. It's free and the community is/can be supportive. Once I reach my goal I will stay on the site to track my fitness progress. Good luck everyone. You can do it!
  3. I'm going to toot my own horn a moment: I graduated from undergrad 5 days shy of my 40th (and I kicked a$$). I worked for a year and then started my prerequisites. Just finishing up with a 4.0. I'm starting grad school in the fall and I'll be 42. On one hand I think YIKES, but on the other I feel better than I have in years and I am so much more driven than I was when I was younger. Here's to hoping that holds!
  4. I had an instructor like that. I basically taught myself Micro. I started studying with a partner and by the end of the semester we had a group of 11 students that met once a week. This instructor (she was NOT a professor) "taught" with information taken, nay plagiarized, from Wikipedia. I managed an A (thank you self) and STILL complained to the dean.
  5. I'm not on FB often but if anyone makes a page let us know!
  6. Thank you for this tip! The switch from MLA to APA is not a fun one.
  7. I returned to school after 20 years as well (to finish my undergrad). That first semester was a doozy. Gradually I learned that I couldn't possibly read EVERYTHING assigned. Not physically possible. Prioritizing was my saving grace. I ended up graduating with honors and am starting graduate school this summer. The most difficult thing for me was returning to "student life." I can't just up and buy that pair of fancy shoes or order that bottle of pricey wine.
  8. Well, hi! If there is a FB group I don't know about it. I'm also FNP! Has anyone received the orientation package yet (the one that should contain email info, etc.)? I look forward to meeting everyone next month!
  9. My BF is a professor and is completely aware of the rigors of education. Plus he'll be on sabbatical during a particularly grueling semester (for me) so he'll be available to do the "heavy lifting." Once school starts he knows he'll have to darn his own socks. (Kidding. I've never darned a darn sock in my life.)
  10. Anyone? If so, which track?
  11. Here you fail if you score below 78% or 83%, depending on the course level. Yuck.
  12. I don't know anyone that has attended, however when I went to interview I was told that 100% of the NP students have jobs upon graduation (and this is without a BSN). That works for me! From everything I've read, it seems like if you are going on to your Master's, the BSN is not as important. But what do I know. I guess I'll find out. I received my package and it answered my questions about orientation. June 17th. Who's attending?
  13. Graduated with a BA from Mount Holyoke College with a 3.74. All pre-reqs were 4.0. Mediocre GRE scores. Under 20 hours of "shadowing" at a local hospital. No nursing experience (yet!). Wait listed at MGH and UVM. Accepted at Simmons and UMass Medical. Will be attending UMass since it is a direct entry to DNP program and, as a state school, it has several grants and loan forgiveness programs.
  14. I received that email as well. I'm going to be removing my name because I've decided on the GEP to DNP track at UMass Medical. Now it is only 24 others! Good luck to all!
