Anyone REGRET going into L&D as a new grad??
Thank you everyone for your input! I have decided to take the L&D position! Although, the pay is less, it is what I really want to do! I am in the process of taking a basic fetal monitoring class and getting my NRP certification now! I eventually want to become a lactation consultant and later on in the future get my NP in women's health or midwifery. I think this position will help get started with those goals! Thank you again for your opinions, they were things that I definitely wanted to hear before making this decision!

it's not about WHAT you know, it's about WHO you know
Wow....i'm so surprised. Well, come to think of it....yes, it is the Philippines and most often...jobs are given to those who know a person in the inside. However, it doesn't take away the fact that...that sucks! Oh well....things happen for a reason. Keep at the job hunt and we'll pray for your success! Hope everything works out for the better...keep us updated!

What resource do you use to study for NCLEX-RN?
I used the complete Kaplan course. Completed 100% of my qbank and all my qtrainers. Utilized all of Kaplan's video content review and question review. Lacharity's Prioritization, delegation and Assignment. Saunders 4th edition. NCLEX 3500 and a bit of medspub. Kind of screwed around for a month before hitting the books hard the last two weeks before my test. The last two weeks, I was doing about 100/day except when doing qtrainers. They say its bad to have too many resources and I agree because I found some that were a little contradicting. However, if you know your content, you should be able to tell the difference. For example, Lacharity book says the first thing to do during an evisceration is to call MD, but Kaplan pushes that you cover the wound with saline gauze. And in real life, I don't think leaving a pt at an emergency like that to call an MD would be appropriate. Stay with the pt...and stabilize the pt...before you do anything else.

Anyone REGRET going into L&D as a new grad??
Hi, I was able to get an interview at a small county hospital for an L&D unit. I also have 2 other interviews for new grad position in med-surg units. I love L&D and it's definitely what I want to do...but just curious to know if anyone ever regretted going into this specialty and bypassing the whole med-surg experience as a new grad?

I Passed!!! God Is Great.

Nervous about taking NCLEX-RN
Don't focus on the number of questions...focus on the question itself! Eliminate two of the bogus answers and make sure you ask why each answer would be plausible.. i totally agree....expect all 265...because i expected 75, I started to panic and hyperventilate at 76! Ugh...don't be like me!!

Are these questions hard enough?
The questions on the nclex were very much like Kaplan...the review questions I received on medspub and nclex3500 seemed a little more complex than the ones I received! The content review was good either way though!

Finally...I PASSED!
Congratulations!!!:balloons:

265 questions later....I PASSED!!
Honestly, I felt very prepared going into my test! I studied for hours beforehand! I had three different resources (Saunders and Lacharity)...and was backed up by Kaplan's FIRST TIME guarantee! I got no med calculations, 4 SATAs, a whole bunch of infection control, and priority questions, one after another!! It felt like i was doing triage nursing!! If my test stopped at 75, I would have felt more confident about my test! I knew most of the questions they gave me in the first 75! When it turned 76, I PANICKED HARD!! Heart started to race, started to sweat, and all of a sudden I could hear everything that was going on in the testing center! Those ear plugs aren't that great! Questions 76-200 was a blur!! By 201, I just knew that I was going all the way! And that's when I started to just hurry through the questions to get out of there! 4 days later...and after an agonizing and tear-filled weekend....i saw my name on the CA BRN website!! I passed!! Remember to KEEP YOUR FAITH UP...because I definitely have my friends to thank for encouraging me and supporting me through this whole ordeal! I was seriously convinced that I would have to retake the exam! The numbers you get on the exam....has NOTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER YOU PASSED OR FAILED!! Don't focus on the number of questions....focus on the question itself!! Good luck everyone!! Remember...it's just a test....if you fail, at least it's just another test you have to take, you didn't get kicked out of nursing school...and you don't have to repeat 4th semester (ughhh!!!)!!
