How much does it pay?

It's super hard to find work in NYC. I have my bachelors and it took me 5 months to find something.. In JERSEY! I found a job at a good hospital there so I said I'll take it. The commute isn't bad. Just shy of an hour no traffic. Still I knew I wasn't going to get lucky in NYC. After so long of applying I was actually going to drive up to Albany for an interview. Good thing the place in jersey called me before I got there. But that's how desperate I was getting. It does take a while though for your applications to even be considered. After I accepted the NJ position I ended up getting a cal from LIJ and kings county. I know ! That sucks. But I'm sticking with my jersey job. My advice is to be patient but to also explore other options. Practice interviewing A LOT. Apply to all the hospitals and keep your eyes open for open houses and new grad positions. They do exist. Good luck. I hope you find something.

Oh yea I actually saw that. I have to write the essay for it when I have time. Well as long as you think you did the best you could. Interviews really do suck though.

Oh because I saw one recently and I believe it was only for experienced nurses. I guess perhaps it was different but I do wish you luck on your interview. They may still be deliberating and it always takes a while for the ball to get moving. How do you think you did during your interview? What kinds of questions did they ask?

Were new grads able to apply?

I don't interview well in groups. It brings me out of focus for what I want to say. And man did they try to get us out asap.

Thank you. I will do my best to remember all of those tips. As long as the clinical questions are straightforward I think I have a shot. There's something about meeting with the head of nursing that makes me quiver. I honestly did not even expect to get a second interview.

Hello! I am a new graduate nursing student. I am happy to say I got an second interview with my dream hospital. I am meeting with the director of nursing and Vice President of nursing. I'm very nervous because I want to make a good impression. I did well on the pharm test. The HR rep seemed to like me which is why she decided I should have a second interview. She told me that on my second interview, they like to ask clinical situation questions. What should I expect going into that interview and how can I best prepare? Any tips are appreciated. Thank you!

My apologies. It shows the most recent so I guess that why I missed it. I haven't gotten any calls back. Almost every hospital wants experience so it's just one big catch-22. I fill out everything I can find so maybe something will turn up eventually.

Also helps to have my BSN. Though I'm not sure about the fact that I'm a man. Her friend got the job in NJ somewhere. I think you'll find something eventually. It does take some time. You didn't mention anything about that Bronx clinic.

Yea I've been looking about the same amount of time. Well I mean it took my sisters friend 6 months to get her job and she has her asn. I'm also on linked in, trying to line something up. If it takes a little longer to get a call then that's alright. It's early in the search, I suppose.

Hey Blondie1887. I saw from your previous posts that you had something lined up in the Bronx. I was wondering what happened with that? I've also been applying everywhere but there really isn't much out there.

Well would it be a good idea to just start working in a nursing home and then keep applying to a hospital jobs until you land one? It could be a while before you find something so it doesn't make sense to be idle during that time.

My apologies. Thank you. I appreciate your answer. I applied to all of the locations you listed over the past few days. I'm not willing to leave NYC so I don't think it would be necessary to apply upstate. Perhaps I would apply in Jersey, however I need to get my jersey license as well. Any resources you recommend. I like to use indeed and monster or I just go directly to the hospital website.

Thanks I actually saw one for NYU next week I plan on attending. I was just curious if anyone had an idea of which hospitals hire new grads. A lot places I see require experience.

Hello all, I'm happy to say that I finally received my NY nursing license. I am bachelors prepared and ready to work. Does anyone have any suggestions of places to apply apply in the city or anywhere in the boroughs. Preferably a place that would accept new grads or would be new grad friendly. I would really appreciate any input with regards to that. Thanks everyone.

Oh boy is that anxiety provoking. I'm pretty sure it's not indicative of a pass or a fail. You'll just have to wait 2 days for quick results, if you're able to in your state.

I did the quick results and I did, in fact, pass the NCLEX RN. So yay me! The PVT worked for me.
