  1. What the??????? Lol.
  2. Honey, you will be okay! Once you make a mistake and it bothers you that much, you are more than likely never to repeat it. In the scheme of things, its not a big deal. The dressing was changed. Don't beat yourself up! I also find it very helpful to write down things that I have to do. I was a med/surg nurse for 5 yrs and now work in LTC. Its a lot of responsibilty, a lot of residents. You got 4 freakin days of orientation L that wasn't fair to you). It will get better. You just need to find your own way of organizing yourself because time management is very important. Take bits and pieces from what others do and make it your own. Once you organize yourself, you will be less likely to miss anything and that also helps when emergencies come up. You can't depend on your memory. As far as having ur lisence taken, no way. Relax. Its done. You've learned. Next please. Lol. Don't give up, we need good nurses! Hope that helps u!
  3. That is not true! I have seen some very caring families that visit frequently. You never know what situation they are in. I was a Med/Surg nurse for 5 years and recently started working in LTC. Its busy, there are a lot of residents, but I treat them how I would treat my own family. I do care about them. I have found more rewards in LTC in less than one year than I have with 5 years of Med/Surg nursing.
  4. I know that borrowing is wrong. I also know what its like to be busy and wanting to make your patient comfortable as soon as possible. I don't believe there was intent to do anything unethical at all. In my opinion, she was wrongfully terminated! If anything, a verbal warning or coaching would have been sufficiant. Good nurses get punished too and its a shame! Sorry for your friend!
  5. Thank you Karen I am very uncomfortable with chest tubes and found the information quite helpful! Thanks! :)
  6. You know, I do love what I do. I do not like all the politics involved though. Everything is about money and how much the facility can save. How much money can be saved in the floors"Budget". God forbid someone work over because it has been crazy the whole shift and you have to put your patients first and finish up loose ends after you give report. There was a point when they were complaining about staff not taking lunch breaks. It is awful hard to do that some nights with a heavy patient load. I don't mind skipping lunch if I have too, but I don't want to be hassled because I want to be paid for it. I really hate that staffing grid. It doesn't reflect patient acuity. Their so called nurse/patient ratio. In actuality, if the nurse had a lighter load and a good CNA to assist, the patients would recieve better care. Don't get me wrong, please. I chose to be a nurse for a reason. The money is more than I have ever made, but it is not spectacular or anything. I like to take care of my patients. I am a people person and I like to interact with family members (to a certain degree). I can be stressed when I have a couple confused patients wanting to wander, tube feedings, line draws, meds, charting, dressing changes, and other drama. We all know the kind of things that go on in a 12 hour shift in a hospital. I can deal with that. I don't like when these people sit in their offices and makes rules about things and they have no idea what it is like to deal with some of the issues on the floor. I don't like to feel so overwhelmed. It would take a long time to write everything.
  7. OMG! I have tears in my eyes from laughing!
  8. OMG that is sooo funny...You crack me up!
  9. Ha Ha Ha. I Used to love when that song came on the radio at work!
  10. I couldn't have said it better myself!!!
  11. I agree with that!!!!!
  12. I just recently started a new job in Hospice. I have been a Med/Surg nurse for 2 years. I really want to be able to do this job, but I doubt myself at times. I feel as if there are more experienced and talented nurses that work there. I don't know if I am good enough for this job. I have never before had to decide on my own what med a patient should have. I'm used to calling the MD and saying.....Mr.(whatever) is having increased pain in his abdomen and is asking for his pain medicine every 4 hours on the dot, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO? I just feel a little uncomfortable and afraid that I won't be able to be a good hospice nurse. Hospice nursing is so different from hospital nursing. Is this a normal feeling? Has anyone that was new to Hospice felt this way before? If anyone has any comments, I would greatly appriciate it! Thank you!
  13. yeah your right. I don't think that is too much to ask. If they only knew the time it takes to read orders or signatures or find someone who can.
  14. I recently saw on a patients H&P: pt. was found at home by husband.....unable to move extremities.....HER SALIVA WAS DROOLING. What the heck is that. Everything else sounded so professional. I just busted out laughing. The other nurse on the floor just looked at me and shook her head. Hey it was a long night.
