  1. Today I received the email to accept my award. This was just 2 days after receiving the second signature. Hopefully you all will be accepting yours shortly.
  2. I received my COI on August 17th, and signed the same day. I just checked this morning and can see that I did get a second signature yesterday. But no status change yet. Fingers crossed.
  3. I received a credit check this month and then on the 17th received a finalist notification. When the credit check didn't come earlier in the year like it has previously, for nurse Corps and nhsc, I had given up hope. Still waiting counter signature.
  4. Is anyone else still "under review"? This wait to hear anything is torture...
  5. I just received notification 2 days ago about being a finalist.
  6. Have any non-mental health or substance use-related providers received notification of awards or had a status change? I received notification from Nurse Corp but the award would be significantly less than the NHSC loan repayment.
  7. Thanks, I checked credit karma. I also had a credit check April 19
  8. Where are you checking to know your credit is being checked? Do they list that they checked it on their site, or through a credit monitoring site.
  9. I didn't start nursing school till age 25, graduated this past October at age 27. Working in a wonderful ER. You are never to old. I am so thankful I took the step and left my past career/ degree. If you are going to be working the rest of your life you may as well enjoy it as much as you can.
  10. What many people don't realize about Chamberlain is that Devry purchased a long standing St. Louis highly successful nursing program. During the purchase they retained most all of the faculty, but were required to change the name. Chamberlain is expensive, but it isn't a fly by night program. They have just been spreading the program that has been successful in Missouri to others.
  11. I have a previous Bachelors in Psychology, and worked as a case manager in a psychiatric facility. The work was demanding but rewarding. The pay was not a reward for the education or effort. In my area I was able to get hired directly out of school. However it takes considerable time to build up the experience and contacts for advancement in the field and monetarily. I prefer the science and hands on patient care of nursing. However I do utilize many of the skills I developed in that field at clinical.
  12. They make pregnancy compression hose that come up over the belly. I have heard they help with support and swelling, not PTL. They are costly though, but can be purchased through DME/ pharmacy.
  13. Chamberlain became for profit when the long standing hospital based program was bought. This was because the hospital was struggling. The tuition at least in regards to the St. Louis campus has remained competitive if not cheaper than other BSN 4 year programs. From being a current student, I can attest to the rigors of the program as they continue to hold up to the tradition of nursing education pre by out. I have had multiple class mates drop or fail. It is not a pay and pass program. The nurses we have met at different clinical sites have been amazed that we have 12hr days for clinical throughout the whole program, unlike any of their schools.
  14. I am also a mother and a nursing student. I do a lot of planning each session/ week/ day, to be able to incorporate the things I need. I try to pre-plan my ideal weeks with a weekly planner, so I know how much time I have left over after class, commute, work, etc. (I use this one http://jonmroz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/jon-mroz-weekly-calendar.jpg and color code the blocks). Then use a calendar to keep track of all assignments, appointments, special dates, etc. to help me not forget. I do rely a lot on family for assistance because I have to commute and leave in the mornings before my son is able to leave for school or get picked up on some evenings. I try to utilize my down time efficiently: the hour between dropping off my son at school and going to work, I study at the park; any quiet time to quiz myself I go for it. Take it slow, try not to take on to much at once. Get any assignments out of the way when you can, and try to keep up on studying.
  15. I believe we have a Gary Busey at my school also. : )
