  1. Anyone out there know Philipe Nover thats on UFC now (he's an ER RN)? Get him to post somthin' on here... What was his schedule like before he got on the show? What are some of regimen, training technique/tips?
  2. Cool... A little MMA knowledge probably comes in handy when some pts or their family get a little out of hand. Imagine being a pt that gets a code grey called on them...then you see nurse Nover walk into your room..."What's the problem?..." I'd like to see the expression on that pt's face
  3. Awesome....I'm rootin' for Nover to win too...gotta root 4 my fellow nurse. There's a Kenpo Karate studio down the street from my house...gonna check it out. I've heard they train using grappling techniques too. Going to the gym has lost its charm...I need something new to motivate me. Too many potlocks, donuts, and extra shifts catching up with me, and my gut. btw Totally gonna watch Coutoure v. Lesnar match this Sat. ...Bet Coutoure submits Brock in the 1st round!!
  4. Everyone asks you to help them move their pt, but when you ask for help they look at you like you're speakin' in tongue
  5. Anyone a fan of MMA? I've been watching Ultimate Fighter on Spike and on this season one of the guys is an E.R. RN ...pretty cool! Anyone else out there do somethin' similiar? ...and how do you find the energy?
  6. Talk to this preceptee in frank, blunt language. Know-it-all attitudes usually know LESS... And are DANGEROUS... Imagine your mom, or child under her care once no one is watching over her shoulder. Scary stuff...and there's too many of them out there already.

Had a homeless guy come in from E.R. to the floor. His story was that he was hit and dragged by a car for a few yards, but finally sought tx after a couple weeks...Nasty road rash over his belly, 2nd and 3rd degree wounds at different stages of healing. No evidence of maggots, but once I started to clean wound with some NS I thought I saw some bubbling, I paused, rechecked the bottle thinking that I might have used hydrogen peroxide by mistake...nope it was NS... I elevated the bed more, flipped on more lights, got closer, swiped over a patch of loose scab....to unveil clusters of writhing maggots...some big and fat others looked liked they just hatched. Ughh!
  8. I've worked med/surg 2yrs now... And from experience, there are way too many "bad" nurses out there, and everyone on the floor knows who they are, for a pt not to be or have a strong advocate. I think what this guy is doing is a good thing, and his advice overall is good.
  9. YES! You are out of your mind. But so am I. I'm doing what you're about to do. I was really unhappy about where I was in a career in aerospace (I don't know how I even ended up there). Point is, I'm now in first semester of an ADN program and it is very challenging, more so that I imagined. It's very hard, but fun. I'm married myself, and have a 2yo little girl. My wife was very supportive, but the sacrifices we've made have put a strain on us. Things are tight and sometimes its hard to see that light at the end of the tunnel. What's odd is that while I've never had this amount of stress before, I've never been this happy. I'm doin' it. Try going to a community college to an ADN program. It's a hell of a lot cheaper. In CA some hospitals have programs to where you can earn your BSN and even your MSN once you're employed their and is payed for. Usually they just require you agree to work their for an amount of time afterwards.
  10. One thing to keep in mind...Most schools for RN are severly impacted not enough instructors = Long wait lists = More than 2 years. May take you, all total 3 -5 years. Big consideration if you need to provide for your family. Difficult, but not impossible if you plan ahead.
