I was just reading an article the other day on the CNN app, stating that the nursing market has been flooded and due to the economy that older nurses are not retiring so new grads have no where to go. You would think that all of these pop up college courses for nursing would get smart and put a freeze on churning out new grads so the ones already looking can find something.

Nurseamanda I will def. check out the places that you mentioned. I did stop in several small towns that I liked in between tampa and Kissimmee. Still close enough to the ocean but far enough from the city.

I fig it deoended on what part of Florida that you moved to whether or not jobs are available. I own here in ohio with 4 acres of land. Yeah homes are cheaper in Florida than ohio. I am thinking if renting my house for a year and just buying a modular home in Florida and try the state out for a year. I am hoping to find a roommate when I move, to help ease the financial burden. I have a close friend that moved back to ohio from the southern part of Georgia and worked in Florida making like $15 an hour. He warned me again this morning Pinot to make the move unless I am prepared to work my tail off and make half do what I do now.

I don't know how many nurses say this out loud but, god bless the aids. If it were not for the aids then us nurses would be hard pressed to get our jobs done in an Expedient manner. I try to advise all nurses to be good to their aids, they can make or break you.

Wow, LTC. I remember those days. Taking care of up to 40 people on a hall all alone with one aid, working 90 hrs a week because nurses quitting or getting fired constantly, pain pill seekers, and just general running around like a chicken which it's head cut off. I suggest that you try home health nursing, urgent care, or maybe even a group home setting for a slower pace and peace of mind.

This news is somewhat disheartening. I am an LPN with 6 yrs experience in pediatric critical care. I live in ohio and work independently making about $70,000 a year. I knew I would have to take a pay cut but $12.50 an hour. I can't live on that. I am planning on making a trip to Tampa next month to check out the dif. Facilities and job opportunities.

One of the many reasons that I became a nurse is that I thought that if someone takes the time to go to school for a degree, that they must me intelligent, well spoken, responsible individuals. Well honey child let me tell you, I was sorely mistaken. I have walked in on a many uncomfortable situations. I.e. nurses and aids eating patients food from their trays, a male nurse showing his Jacobs ladder to other nurses, nurses sitting and watching tv in a patients room, and nurses sleeping in patients rooms and staff always being consistently late for start of shift. Through all of this I learned to keep my head down and not get to close to anyone. Oh, and look for a new job, because, I believe that with groups of people like that, you are either in or out. And if you are thought of as trying to be better than them, then they could turn on you next.

I think that "hate" is such a powerful word. It takes energy to hate something, meaning that what ever is expending energy from you is gaining energy from you also. I really did not care for nursing school. The instructors verbatim from the books, and were consistently late. To which we the students had to stay past class time to pay for their tardiness. As for clinically I dreaded the OB and med surge/critical care rotation. For me the most nerve wrecking part of clinicals was being watched and scrutinized. You know that feeling you get when a cop follows you for a long time and you start wondering if you stole your own car? Well that was the feeling I got everyday in clinicals

This summer I am hoping to relocate to Florida. While on the Florida board of nursing site I noticed that a statement was issued about a nursing shortage in Florida. And they were Asking for donations. Does anyone know anything about a nursing shortage in the state of Florida?and if so, any particular area of Florida where nurses are in high demand?

It depends on the severity of your employers complaint and how much they push it. The board will most likely contact you and ask if this firing was justified and your side of the story. They may just give you a warning or actually have you come in front of the board.

If you wake up late for work and just throw scrubs on and run out the door. You forget about doing your hair and makeup. No one important will see you anyways, ans sleep is more important than looking good.
