Fremont/Ballard are cool areas to live, but not the easiest for getting to children's. Sandpoint goes to lake city (which has some sketchy areas, but is improving). Udistrict, Ravenna, Northgate are all easy commutes to children's. I would try to stay down near sandpoint if possible or between there and Northgate. The hill down from 45th to sandpoint and montlake blvd get backed up pretty bad depending on the time of day.

One of my classmates turned 60 during our program. He is now working at a large hospital as a hospice nurse and loves his job.

Traffic across lake washington from Redmond/Bellevue can be terrible.. And those areas are usually just as expensive if not more. Unless you plan on taking a bus, which may be difficult if you're working nights, I'd recommend staying on this side of the water! North Seattle is usually better price wise.

For those starting Monday, have you received your clear to start email from preboarding?

It depends on the unit, but if you do a search through previous Swedish threads there are a lot of examples. I thought about approximately 10 scenarios I've experienced in previous jobs and clinicals. I felt pretty prepared and I still got a couple questions that caught me off guard. I would definitely read through previous threads and search online for behavioral interview advice. The best piece of advice I read is that Swedish hires new graduates for personality and eagerness to learn. Be yourself. Good luck with your interview!! Where are you interviewing?

Absolutely! Healthcare experience is very valuable, but my other work experience has prepared me in ways that CNAs/techs may not have experienced. I think there's a lot you can say regarding coaching, swim instructing, and life guarding. I wouldn't even compare them in an interview. I'd simply focus on positives and strengths that you have. You had to be alert and observant as a lifeguard. As an instructor, you had to consider different learning styles and developmental levels to find methods of teaching each individual student. Coaching involves leadership and motivation. As someone who was feeling quite desperate a couple weeks ago, try to hold onto your worth! Work every single day toward job searches and networking. I also became ACLS certified during that time to try to make my resume more competitive. Something will come up if you keep working hard!

I spent the last couple months trying to stay optimistic and applying for jobs every single day. I had no work experience in healthcare, but I just got my dream job. Nursing involves a lot of teaching, which you have experience with. And caregiving. When asked how I compare to other candidates who did have previous healthcare experience, I focused on my strengths. Working in retail taught me customer service, which is absolutely necessary in nursing. As a manager of that retail store, I learned to prioritize and delegate. I learned valuable multitasking and organization skills. Your work experience has likely given you more skills than you realize!

I found the lippincott Q&A book extremely helpful. Does your school offer any additional assistance/tutoring for students who didn't pass the first try? Best of luck in your second attempt!!

Two weeks after my panel interview I had an additional phone interview with the ICU team I had interviewed with. The following day I received a call from the recruiter.

Got the job offer. I am so excited! Has anyone else heard back?

Has anyone received a follow up call from the nurse manager following their panel interview? I have no idea what to expect. I was told that they have a few additional questions, but no other details.

They said it would be 1-2 weeks. I imagine it will depend on the unit though. Good luck in your post partum interview! I found it helpful to read through previous threads on here and I searched the web for behavioral interview question tips. Remember to be yourself! They're just people. :)

I interviewed in the ICU. There were six interviewers and they asked behavioral questions. It wasn't nearly as intimidating as I had expected.

I had a panel interview last week. I've never had an interview like that before. They were extremely friendly.

Hi everyone, I just inquired about the nurse residency programs at Swedish and received an email about the programs beginning in January and February. When I searched for the job numbers in the email I did not find anything. I see that many of you applied for the programs several months ago - do you know if they are still accepting applications or if their email is out of date?

I know what you mean. As a postbac student, I am looking at 70k for the two years. It's scary to imagine that much debt. And that's just tuition... not living expenses. Ugh.
