Full time work AND school?
I work Fulltime Fri, Sat, and Sun 12hour night shifts on med-surg, and go to School T,W, Th. I also have 5 and 6 year old boys, and my marriage is intact. I have maintained an A average and will be done in December. Now, with all that. It is very hard and most of my classmates work PRN or partime. But I have to work full time. You just do what you have to do. Hope this helps!

LPNs who are jealous or resentful of RNs??
I am a LPN working Med-Surg in Indiana. I will have completed my LPN-RN program in December. At work on my unit, the patient census is split between and 1-2 RNs (depending on census). I have the same autonomy as the Rn and do the same assessment, med pass, and treatment. They treat me wonderful and continue to encourage me to finish my LPN-RN program. No resentment whatsoever. In my nursing program now I find the material and the clinicals very much easier. The attendance policy is more leniant (anytime you missed a day in my LPN program you had to write a 5 page paper), clinicals are 1-2 days VS. 3days and so on... Those things are surely a factor in why I find it easier, or maybe experience and support helps.

Medical Assistant Or LPN?
I graduated from a MA program in 1999 making 7.49/hour and worked a few months in a physicians office and then left to work in a hospital laboratory for the same pay but I got benefits. Doctor's office usually don't pay well and many do not have any sort of benefit package. I am now a LPN and will be a RN in December. Take this advice from experience don't waste your time in a MA program. Good luck to you in whatever you choose.

LPN's Role in the ICU?
I am a LPN in Indiana, and work in a med-surg and telemetry unit. I also work in our ICU. I take verbal orders, hang blood, start IV's, give IV push meds, etc. etc. I am in a RN bridge program, just so I can make the same amount of money that the RN beside is making doing the same job.

Age when you had your first child?
First child at age 20 (a boy) Second child at age 22 (a boy) Age doesn't matter What matters is if you are a good mother.

Age when you had your first child?
First child at age 20 (a boy) Second child at age 22 (a boy) I don't think that it matters about age, young mother vs. older mother. What matters is if you are a good mother.

do any of you work in anything other than ltc as an LPN?
I work in Med/Surg primarily, and float to ICU, ER, and Mother-Baby. I start IVs, give blood, give IVP,etc.. I do everything that the RN working with me does. And sometimes the only RN is the charge nurse. I live in Indiana, and I know scope of practice differs from state to state. If you want to work in obstetrics, why not try getting a position as a tech on a OB/GYN floor while you are in school? Then you could transfer into a LPN position on the Mother-Baby unit. At my hospital we can do mother-baby, just not L&D.

what is a med-tech
I have many friends who are Medical Technologists(Med Tech). They have either associate degrees or bachelors. They do have certification. I have a friend who has been a tech for years making 31/hr, and I friend who has a associates and is fairly new at the occupation(less than 5 years) making around 22/hr. If a hospital has a lab, then they have Med. Techs. Can't run a lab without them. NurseWeaver
